I was there, at this very concert! Such good times folks, being the screaming Kaja-fangirl that I was back then. Near the end of the show, I spontaneously jumped on stage while my heart pounded like crazy, to be near my idols. I ran into Nick's arms and got a huge hug from him; he was a total sweetheart by the way. Security kindly but firmly guided me off stage. Unbelievable how much guts I had back then....Anyway, the whole concert was recorded, and the next day the part with my 5 minutes of fame was put on repeat in my classroom. My classmates & teacher just couldnt stop laughing at my hysterical fangirl behavior! Thankfully I didnt take myself too seriously, and had a good laugh too:)
"Hey Girl... move a little closer 'cause you're Too Shy" 😌 I haven't heard this song in a long time! Thanks for takin' me back in time. My teenage years would soon be coming to an end. Happy Saturday... thank you for sharing! 💖
What a great performance! Nick Beggs was a decent singer in his own right. However, Limahl's voice was more powerful and full-bodied. It had a wistful melancholy to it, which was also evident in his on-stage persona and interviews. This gave Kajagoogoo classics like "Too Shy" and "Hang On Now" that extra something special, which made the band so memorable.
I’m still convinced that if Nick Beggs would have been the leadsinger from the start with a studioversion it would have been as successful as limahls version. Nick has such a distinctive voice, such charisma. Look up White Feather live sung bij Nick … not to forget The Lions Mouth… Certainly nothing against Limahl but Kajagoogoo was Nick Beggs for me and always will be. And in addition to that, the basslines were the core of the songs. Everybody is entitled to an opinion. And I can understand somebody else’s point of view.
En este clásico. Too Shy, figurará en cualquier top ten de los 80s, por su atmósfera, su elegancia, su aureola memorable, ya sea con la voz de Limahl o Nick, aunque Beggs, tiene un plus, se mete al público al bolsillo
I saw them with Limahl at Hammersmith Palais back in the day - Nick Beggs bass playing was incredible, he was clearly the bands leader - hugely underrated sadly because of the teen image
@@davidrutledge5464 I would agree that Limahl sung this song better than Nick Beggs. However 'Islands' which was post Limahl is brilliant and better overall than their debut album 'White Feathers'
That was the bass player originally. He seems very sweet. Even though I’m used to Limhal singing it, I loved Nick’s performance energy and stage presence. Loved his interaction with the crowd and how much fun he was having. Great video! Thanks for posting!

I was thinking that the camera should be on Nick Beggs when he plays that awesome bass intro... then I realized that Nick Beggs is singing lead instead of Limahl! Not every band could go on without their singer.
@@stevieG. I'm sorry to disagree, but Kajagoogoo was Limahl and pretty much him. Period. The rest may have been good musicians but no star power. Sorry about that. And by the way, Nick's voice may have been better suited for rock bands but not this. This is strictly Pop and Limahl's voice was far more enticing to everyone's ear. Remember "Never Ending Story"? Where was Nick then?
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb I wouldn't say Nick was a better singer than Limahl, but I wouldn't say "Kajagoogoo was Limahl" either. Nick was a good singer and could carry on loosely in the style of Limahl, and I was merely saying that this is unusual: The Police/Duran/Spandau could not continue with another band member replacing their lead singer.
@@blissmaster71 Absolutely! I agree! I think that Kajagoogoo was pretty much Limahl, regarding the band's charting story, but giving the benefit of the doubt to Nick Beggs although I consider he had no star power. Now, regarding those bands you mentioned, I also agree it would have been impossible for them to carry on in a consistent basis without their frontmen. Queen tried that but it wasn't very successful. They only managed to endure for a while.
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb Limahl had the most star power in the group, for sure. However, what really made Kajagoogoo stand out was that unusual combination of a charismatic lead singer, equally talented instrumentalists, and just all around great pop songwriting (thanks also to their producer, Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes). The band members all admitted as much in their VH1 Bands Reunited episode. They conceded that firing Limahl was a mistake and acknowledged his invaluable contributions as their original frontman.
I agree..we were all too accustomed to the vocals and visuals of Limahl.... Nick gives it his best and full performance though...just strange seeing someone so tall singing it when it used to be someone so small ha ha 🤣Nicks legs go on forever...👌
I was thrown for a moment with Nick only singing and not playing bass at the same time. I guess having replaced Limahl, he felt the need to give the bass duties to a hired bass player so he could become the front man. Very strange. I wonder who the bass player is here as he's not an official band member. Whoever it is, I'm certain Nick Beggs completely approved of him as he is one of the most iconic bass players of the 20th and 21st century. It's a real shame the band couldn't work things out with Limahl to keep him because it's obvious that even though the band tried, the band couldn't survive for very long without Limahl. I'm just happy they all lived long enough to realize they dropped the ball with how they treated one another and the legacy of Kajagoogoo and made amends enough to reunite and right the wrongs. And, while Nick is great here, he's not as sexy, vocally talented and charismatic as Limahl was. Without Limahl there would never have been a Kajagoogoo. At least not a chart topping one. Nick is very lucky to be following what Limahl established. Not throwing shade. Just speaking truth.
Didn't realise this singer was Nick Beggs, the band's usual bass guitar player. Regardless of whether you like their music or not, one must admit that that band are very good live.
@@emanuellequesne2447 yes, the reason the separation was because the band wanted to be a more progressive act ,which I think their Island's album shows this.
Limahl is not In this performance because he got fired in 1983. This performance happened in 1984 around the time the second album came out. They sacked Limahl before they started making the album “islands”
I've been into Kajagoogoo since their first hit single way back in 1983. And I like the post Limahl material better . However Limahl sings this better than Nicky Beggs does here IMHO.
The last thing a Soviet soldier guarding an outpost hears before a man wearing an eyepatch and bandana with a robotic arm knocks him out (Metal Gear Solid 5)
