    Being a former long-time resident of Key West, I often watch these guide videos, if for no other reason, to get a laugh out of how wrong the vloger usually is about nearly everything. But I have to say, you’ve really nailed it with this video. This is the first time I’ve EVER seen anyone recommend kayaking the mangroves along Riviera Canal, which is something I would frequently do, as a local, on my days off. The little tidal canals you were in lead to the salt ponds. From there you can kayak up alongside the airport runway and watch the planes come and go. You will also get great views of the old Cold War era missile base. The only thing I would disagree with you about is your reference to the time of year to visit. Though I do not discount your personal experiences, I can tell you that the weather is far more reliable during the rainy season, than it is during the winter. Though there is little precipitation in the winter, the weather can be quite unpredictable, very windy making water sports impossible, and can be way too cold to go swimming. The island is also extremely crowded that time of year. In the rainy season, though it will typically rain at some point during the day, those rain storms are usually very short and intense, but pass very quickly. It is rare to end up in a weather pattern that allows rainy, dreary days for more than a day or two. Thank you for the great video. I enjoyed it very much.

      Thank you for taking the time to write this Jayson! It really does mean a lot especially coming from a resident! We are so glad you noticed that we actually do put in the time and effort to put out a quality guide for viewers that will be taking time out of their day to watch. We value our viewers’ precious time and tried to put out a guide that is different from all others that honestly seem to just copy each other 😳 thank you again! Do you miss living in Key West? Merry Christmas!!

      I miss Key West every single day. But, even though Key West remains a fantastic vacation destination, and I do still visit from time to time, I’m afraid many of the qualities Key West used to possess, the reasons I cherished my island paradise, no longer exist. Many of the Key West quirks and eccentricities, that made our island so special, have been driven out by commercialization and real estate development. Now those quirks and eccentricities are really just theatre, attempting to recreate a way of life that I’m afraid could never return. An unfortunate side effect of any tourist destination that becomes “too popular,” I’m just happy I got to experience Key West in a different time. But I’d certainly recommend it to anyone today. Even now, it’s still worth a visit.

      You nailed it ,Boca Chica still sends up fighter jets , We were on a " Cold War " mission , after the Bay of Pigs to monitor Castro's threat with Soviet backing ..Just 90 mies away Cuba became a Paradise Lost , the guys that were stationed in GUteMo Bay would always talk about how when they had shore ( or liberty ) passes how beautiful Cuba was ..Was also back there , but as a Civilian , tourist when Mariel started in 1980 ...Some claimed Castro opened his jails and psych hospitals BUT I came to know many Cuban residents , even plucked them out of the Strait of Florida on a few occasions . They were very hard , industrious ,law abiding folks that were looking for the same as my predecessors did from Europe . Freedom..A chance for a better life for their family . They got labeled in a couple of movies for drug traffic . Nothing could be further from truth ..Every one has a few bad apples , that's does not matter what color you are or where you came from . But that perception of the boat lift was no reason to judge a whole race as a generalization . True , it did cause some delays , traffic jams but major construction was happening on the Overseas Highway ( US 1 ) to begin with . I've also was invited to stay with the folks I came good friends with in " Little Havana " or Calle Ocho ( 8th Street ) in Miami . It's , IMO , a vibrant , festive place , that celebrates Cuban culture and liberation of some decades of suppression by communist dictatorship .Sure , there will be some bad apples , that commit crimes . That occurs everywhere in the world . But if your final destination is Key West , be sure to check it out before hoping on a plane home from Miami or visit on your way down to the Keys once you decide to drive DOwn to KW .I'd would be surprised if you didn't find Little Havana at the very least , informative ,fun .BUT practice your dancing skills before arriving !! Have a good appetite , and string cheeks to support your continual grins !!

      Ok I'm impressed you included going to watch the end a the runway out Gieger key road. Its very cool. But for those that want a little more excitment. if you walk further past the end of the runway, maybe another 1/3 of a mile, no more then that. You will find yourself at one a the local clothing optional beachs. Just thought I would share.

    my tips: watch out for sting rays. they are everywhere, most of the keys are muck and mangroves so go to named beaches if you want a good island expierence, check the wind before you kayak. if it's over 10 mph don't bother, get fked up on duval street. if you can afford to rent a boat for a day do it. lots of amazing sand bars and places to explore that way, and lastly the best beach in the keys wasn't mentioned in this video so def go explore.

    We just got back from one day trip Florida City- Key West-Miami. In our one day trip to Key West we passed over 42 bridges, including Seven Mile Bridge, and 34 islands as we traveled the scenic Overseas Highway and drove around Key West. We stopped to see Anne's Beach, Sandal Factory outlet and stopped to say "hi" to Big Betsy, giant lobster in Islamorada, ate delicious Pie at Blond Giraffe Key Lime Factory in Tavernier, stopped at the amazing Seven Mile Bridge, we reached the southernmost Point and much more! Just wondering regarding kayaking the mangroves. Have you tried the one in Everglades NP? I have to choose either one due to my schedule and am not sure which one to take. I am thinking maybe enjoy Kayaking in clear ocean in Keys and wildlife & mangroves in Everglades. Hard to decide!

      @NickandJulie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SKOKMKJK We have not kayaked in Everglades NP. We should though, we are pretty close to it now actually. We actually did some kayaking out of Curry Hammock State Park about a month ago. You can do both there. They have a loop you can do around the park, with a low bridge to go under in a small mangrove grove, that was fun. There is a sandbar (the clear ocean kayaking) you can reach from there as well- which we went to. We enjoyed it very much! That may be an option that has both types of kayaking. Google it and see if that is something you might be interested in. We will be putting it in a video but it may be weeks until its uploaded. Have fun!

    Very good job with your video. The sign is on the building that used to be home to the Pelican Poop shop. (Unfortunately, the Pelican Poop has been closed for seveal years.) Hemmingway stayed there while waiting for his car to be delivered. Yes, Alozo's is just "OK." Basically every restaurant (other than Schooner Warf) in the "Historic Seaport" serves the same basic tourist food. If you arrive early in the mornings you can see the Sisco trucks unloading their frozen fish for the tourist traps. For better food, get back into the neighborhoods and find places like Azure, Cafe' Sole or Pepe's. There are tons of great restaurants on the island but avoid the tourist areas and you will find much better selecitons. Cheers.

      @@NickandJulie The family and I are just long time visitors. We usually go at least once a year, typically staying for 3 weeks. As a matter of fact, the car is loaded now and we pull out for KW at 4:30AM. I made my first trip to KW in 1979. It was so cool back in the days before it was "discovered" and the old skinny bridges kept most tourists away, but as the old Eagles song says, "call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye." Still, we love it. The locals are great small town people; we are fortunate enough to have made many lasting friendships there over the years. This construction cones were put in place after the covid shutdown. It wasn’t because of construction. The village of Islamorada was tired of people from Miami coming down and trashing the place. They would pop up day camps with so many people and cars they would block traffic, litter everything, and destroy the shoreline. I’ve even seen people just pooping on the sidewalk. I lived there for three years. It was unfortunate that the people from Miami made it a terrible experience. The islands are beautiful and have so much potential. The highway is their blessing and their curse.

    The Living God loves you so very much that He sent His Holy Son Jesus from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin, to grow up & die on a cross for our sins, & to be put into a tomb 3 days and rise from the dead the third day, and He (Jesus) went back up to heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, & the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, & believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today & repent!
