  • I take out an old Leica D Lux 7 out for a photo walk, do some landscape photography and give my thoughts on the camera... let me know what you think if you own one yourself, or its brother, the Lumix LS100 ii.

Great little video. The D Lux 7 is also a good choice in 2024. The D Lux 8 will come in June this year, but you don't need to ditch the 7. Keep on rolling.

Most people would say old cameras are old hat but I disagree give me an older one over a brand new one any day of the week! Still an avid user of the XT1

People do get obsessed with all the latest tech and sharpest lenses, but they forget photography is about how you feel.

Was considering this camera for a long while to be my everyday take every where camera. Was excited by the idea of the camera’s tactile aperture ring, shutter speed and exposure dials. Also, the small size, metallic finish, and the color rendering is really beautiful. But on paper the micro 4/3 sensor, distortion I saw with raw photos and corner stretching at the 24 mm end, auto focus pulsing (contrast detection) when shooting video, and lack of dust/weather sealing prevented me from ever pulling the trigger on this. The cost also(~$1300 usd used) is the biggest deterrent. For what would have been similar money $1150 usd I got myself a gently used, opened box, full frame, Sony, A7C, with the 28-60mm kit lens. I am really happy with my choice as it has similar black and metallic aesthetic, superlative low light performance, and while the kit lens is not optically perfect, (uncorrected distortion at the 28mm end), it is still very serviceable and it is interchangeable. I can share my existing full frame camera lenses across my other Sony full frame camera, A7 IV. Even now, the idea of the clicky dials has me returning to the dLux7 for a look but I remind myself I got the better camera A7C.

@Cthames123 I’ve looked at the A7C too, it’s a good balance of compactness and full frame. There is certainly no contest in regard to image quality there. I just don’t want to get into another system as my main gear is Fujifilm.
I almost got the LUMIX LX100 ii instead of this, which essentially the same camera and cheaper! But got a good deal on the Leica. Not convinced I’ll hold onto it in the long run, but we’ll see!

@@ajnphotography_uk Understand perfectly! It is an attractive package, except when you look at the price...I'm seeing Like New it is actually $1600 USD! Sounds like you got a great price on yours though., great find for you. The fixed lens of the camera is a perfect way for you to get the camera you want without having to invest anything on new lenses from a different system. Well, it seems like a fun camera to shoot with given it's other features and attributes. Still, for me there was a much better alternative at a much cheaper price that had more in the area of things I value. Maybe one day I'll revisit it I get my money issues all worked out, (don't have infinite amount of it yet). Untile then living vicariously through great TH-cam videos like yours does me fine :). Thanks again for sharing.

There is a new one coming, I think it will be a bigger camera though with bigger sensor.

@@ajnphotography_uk I hope so, I'm need something at least at 24mp, 17mp is great but I crop and need more pixels. 4:3 is ok with me, also lens is ok. megapixels are the only reason that I didn't buy this camera. I just hope they stay under 1500€ with price, and it's going to be a banger.

This camera probably won’t make that noise…. What’s real and what not?

If it's like my x2 it has an electronic sound that sounds like a shutter clicking. Otherwise you hear nothing at all.

@iwannaapple7190 it does make a wurring noise, not clicking, but not too loud.
