    Hi All! Just wanted to address a few things with this video...
    First, our editors typically do a great job editing our videos, but every once in a while they may leave a typo in there. One was accidentally not adding the "t" at the end of "student." This was placed on screen multiple times. The other was "blow" was typed on screen instead of "below" at around 7:22
    I was a bit distracted with reviewing other elements of this new video format, but nonetheless I should have caught those. 😡
    The other thing I wanted to mention is that the background voice was mostly my TA teaching another group of students on the other side of the lab. It wasn't just random unruly students... lol
    I should have mentioned that in the intro, and if we decide to do another format like this, I'll see if I can adjust the mic settings to pick up less background noise.
    Thank you for catching the mistakes and bringing them to our attention, and thank you for watching our videos!
    -Jonathan

      Jonathan, do not worry, everyone has typo's. Those of us watching either work in medicine or have retired. Others are made up of students and military personnel. The brain is designed to be an auto typo error corrector! I only noticed after reading your post, which just goes to show how good my brain is at not disturbing me from interesting stuff!!

    I want to give a huge thanks to you because it's really difficult to enter medical schools in S. Korea. Students are struggling to correctly answer every question of Korean SAT, with calculus and two advanced science exams. I didn't take K-SAT like that, so I'm major in Chinese and economics - it's impossible to participate in real anatomy classes. However, this kind of video allows every person who watches TH-cam to learn human anatomy like they are in the medical schools; simply put, anyone can be your students!! Thank you again, and I hope this kind of format gets positive reactions by your viewers!

    i've been scowering the internet looking for a video explaining the entire journey food takes through our body from mouth to rear end.
    this may be too much information so read at your own risk, but the reason i became fascinated with this topic is because one day while i was taking my morning poop, i looked in the toilet and thought to myself, "you know, that's actualy a lot of waste." and i continued to think about how this must mean that our body doesn't really keep much of the food we eat, and that it's really only keeping like 10% of the total food we eat and discarding the rest.
    thank you so much for this highly education and informative video! it's so fun to learn about my own body. truly fascinating how it all works.

      Fun fact: Most of your poop is actually bacteria (50-80% dry mass). Our bodies are remarkably efficient when it comes to absorbing food.

    • @kellymichelley
      @kellymichelley 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      There is something I still wonder about. Does ALL the food you eat go out the other end? I mean, nutrients are pretty microscopic, right? So surely when the body absorbs those nutrients, it isn't reducing the bulk at all. Maybe the output just seems like less than the input because so much of the food is made up of water, which gets excreted as urine.

    • @juliastockhausen7173
      @juliastockhausen7173 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@kellymichelleymany foods exit your body with some of their original structure. Fruits, veggies, whole grains and their fiber are part of the output. Those of us with a colostomy get to see this everyday too up close. An ileostomy produces less digested output. 😢

    • @kellymichelley
      @kellymichelley 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@juliastockhausen7173 Interesting! I had no idea. I suppose it's probably a good thing to be able to see it, as you're supposed to take a look at a pet dog's poo as you pick it up, in case there are any signs of health problems. Babies too, so I've heard.

    I believe I have literally seen every video that institute of human anatomy has published on TH-cam and I'm going to say right now that this one right here was probably the funnest to watch and it went at a pace that absorbed extremely well, no pun intended. I'd like to see more of classroom discussions or lab exercises... whatever you're going to call them posted because I think, and don't take this the wrong way but they're explained at a 5th grade level that really works well as far as watching versus studying a video. That being said I really hate the word remission when it comes to type 2 diabetes because I am a truck driver with 144k followers and I have reversed type 2 diabetes in over 7,000 truck drivers all from change of lifestyle and eating habits and physical fitness habits it's very simple yet a complex mental issue to deal with with people, especially truck drivers. So the word remission refers to lazy as far as I'm concerned because the only reason you're going to come out of remission typically is because you broke your own rules and consumed more than your threshold of glucose and whatever else in a manner that exceeded your body's tolerance, and until you get yourself under control again you're going to continue to have issues. Why doctors don't prescribe a change of lifestyle versus insulin for type 2 diabetics must be a monetary decision but that's another subject for another day. As always really appreciate the videos you post I enjoy every one of them multiple times typically. Thank you.

    Thank you IOHA & Jonathan gor making this video easy to understand even for a stay at home mom like me. Idk why but your channel is one of my favs on youtube to wind down after a long day. Love the old format, but the new one is pretty refreshing 👍🏻

    I watch these videos all the time but I would be weirded out irl as a student being around cadavers and touching somebody's organs, lol

    • @kellymichelley
      @kellymichelley 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I would love to know what the organs feel like! I remember in high school, being given the choice between dissecting a rat or a fetal pig. I chose the rat because I had pet rats and thought it would be cool to see and understand their inner workings. I'm sure I felt every organ! I'm a very tactile person though. My sister once got annoyed with me and said, "Do you have to touch EVERYTHING?" Getting to feel all the human organs would be awesome! (Pardon the archaic slang; I grew up in the 80s and 90s. At least I didn't say "bodacious"!)

    • @kellymichelley
      @kellymichelley 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Then again, I once worked as the night security guard at a university, and I reeallly wanted to touch one of the cadavers in the basement anatomy lab, but every time I'd walk in there and see them in body bags on the tables, I chickened out. I never thought I would be squeamish about that, but you can't always know how you'll react to something until you're actually in the situation.

    You said we can't absorb the fibre in the large intestine. So what's the difference between soluble and insoluble fibre? I've heard insoluble fibre is what makes the bulk of the stool. How is soluble fibre really being dissolved?

    My medical terminology professor used following a bolus of food through the alimentary canal as a teaching tool. We learned all the structures and organs involved and their processes. I remember that better than most others from that class.

    Hi Jonathan! You'll Probably never see this in a million years, however here goes. I'm an old lady, When I was 13 or 14 years old I swallowed a rock. It got stuck in my esophagus and it was so painful. I was too embarrassed to tell my parents. I was in so much pain; I was delirious. When I sipped a bit of water it felt better. Mom and Dad were wondering if I had a broken rib or internal bleeding but I wasn't talking. Many hours later, the pain went away. The rock must have gone down. Now, I always wondered, what would have happened with that rock?

    Liked format, students questions are what I would ask thus engaging. I wish I was in class as I then wanted to ask more. T2D, foods for good health of our whole body. How do we eat for our bones, muscles, brain. Ageing and digestion. Menopause and digestion. How does digestion of food help my knees recover meniscus tear and stress fracture tibia and fibula. Please continue with your excellent information and format.
