There's a fun fact about All that matters: The part where Yang sort of mentions "...maybe you help you find your Wings and fly" could sort of be a reference to the Wings song from Vol 1. There was an old rumor that back in vol1 Yang and Blake were supposed to have a conversation about Blake running out because they found out about the WF, which would help see the start of their bond (partners, friendship, whatever else). Cause she's the only one in the team that didn't quite talk it out with Blake, even Ruby sorts of tells her it's ok. So that scene with Blake and Yang never happened but the Wings song does exist. It does mention the 12 hours that they spent looking out for Blake and as much as Weiss did mention that, you can't just imagine Weiss calling Blake "baby" which the singer does a lot. Whereas you could see Yang doing that cause she's that lay back and all. So the mention of Wings on the All that Matters song kinda brought that theory at the forefront for a while there, nothing was ever confirmed tho.
I always though Raven portaling to Ty at the end was because literally everyone else she could portal to was there with her at Haven (Yang, Qrow and now deceased Vernal.) It's not like she stopped to talk to Ty, she used his location to portal and then left.
Triumph is such a banger of an OP, and a contender for my fav. All Things Must Die is basically a duet between Raven and Cinder. It carries both their motifs. And played during their fight in episode 13. Ignite probably my favorite Yang song. I love the trumpets and I think this is Lamar’s best rap. It’s not really directed at anyone in general. The “scathing eyes” and “easily processed” are references to the quote at the beginning of the Yellow trailer. Played during her Short. Path to Isolation - Basically Mirror Mirror part 0.5. Takes place before the White Trailer (fittingly). And played during her Short. This Time - From Shadows pt 2 and a Ghira and Blake duet (fitting duet for a father daughter music duo, no?) and played during the credits. Smile - Ilia’s song, and played during the end of Blake’s Short. This one is a bit confusing but I believe the idea was her parents’ words getting twisted by grief, rage, and the WF. I could be wrong. All That Matters - A Yang song about Blake, talking about how she felt seeing Blake back. Like, she’s still hurt but... her being here is all that matters right now. She’s got some conflicted feelings, and like you said, vulnerability. “Maybe help you find your wings and fly” is the big thing that makes me think Wings was from Yang’s perspective too. I’d really recommend sticking with FlyntofRwby’s lyrics vids for next volume. Some excellent fan art in them, and they just tend to be better quality. After V6 tho, Sirs and Madams are your best bet.
For future reference, look up the lyric videos made by Flynt of RWBY, his lyrics were directly provided by Jeff William's and have no mistakes in them. After volume 6 he quit making them and Sirs and Madams Entertainment filled the role. Those videos will have the accurate lyrics.
Agreed. It's irritating, since that's been commented on since she started reacting to the OSTs, and no one is paying attention. Whoever she's got providing the playlist isn't doing her any favors by making the song lyrics so hard to read, and having errors in the lyrics when there's someone who's getting them from the songwriter is really hard to figure out.
Smile is easily one of my favorite songs in all of RWBY, it really speaks to Illya's backstory and character how she had to grow up in the world of, as the song so eloquently puts it, "Selfish Men"

all that matters is one of my favourite slow rwby songs, and i love how it shows a more emotional side of yang in the music rather than her usual upbeat fight songs

I'm screaming because some of the lyrics are wrong in these videos. v.v Oh well, what people send you are what people send you. Either way, great reaction as always, some underdog songs in this volume. 0u0 No one mentioned it, but The Path to Isolation mentioned "self-inflicted pain" and had to be clarified that Weiss didn't participate in any physical self-harm. Just thought it was interesting to mention. Smile is such a great song. Because from what we hear of Ilia's parents ("They wanted something better for me, they managed to enroll me into an Atlas Prep School"), we could only ever imagine them as good people. But hearing how much hatred and caution they instilled into their child, telling them that humans don't change, trick them, steal what they took from us back, you'll be glad you're not one of them, is so...telling. It makes Blake's line to Ilia, "Is this really what your parents' would have wanted?" So much more heart breaking. "I don't know what else to do!"

All That Matters kicked me in the heart the first time I heard it, and it still does now. Yang's songs are always great, but they're always about her wrecking house, so it's nice to get something that goes into the aspects of her character that she buries behind one-liners. Also, I'm an absolute sucker for a sad love song, and whether you think it's romantic/platonic/sisterly/whatever, this is 100% a sad love song (RWBY has a bunch of them, but I'm keeping quiet about the others due to spoilers).

The Illia song is basically from her parents perspective, however it twists to a dark tone to show how Illia changed for the not so good and her misinterpreting her parents words.
I'm not sure how far along you are on patreon (sadly I'm too poor to support you there), but I've noticed that a lot of times the videos you're given for the soundtracks have some incorrect lyrics. It’s okay if your video doesn’t stop right on time, if it means it’s going to publish in better quality. We’re patient enough as RWBY fans to understand if there’s a delay in the video dropping, don’t feel that putting it out on time is more important than putting out the best version of it. 🙂
Weird. How can whoever is putting the playlists together for Melissa get the songs out of order? There are multiple sources for knowing how Jeff Williams ordered the songs, including the album itself and the RWBY Wiki: Media/Soundtrack/Volume 5 listing. The videos they've chosen have that annoying 1 - 2 words per screen (with the annoying '!' after every line), which makes it much harder to both read the lyrics and figure out what the lines really are referring to. Everyone always recommends using FlyntofRWBY's videos, and no one putting these things together ever seems to pay any attention.
They used Flynn’s videos for the V2-4 soundtracks, so I don’t know what you’re talking about there, but it is weird that they for whatever reason didn’t give her Flynt’s videos for this one.
The problem with the White Fang was that it wasn't an inclusive organization. It was about working with the "humans" (since faunus and "humans" can interbreed, they're clearly the same species; I think "humans" just have recessive or non-visible faunus features), but didn't seem to actually include any. Hopefully, the New Brotherhood learns from that mistake and welcomes "human" allies as members and not just associates. No civil rights organization in history has ever been successful while excluding allies. Sadly, the song itself doesn't shed any light on if they've learned. The song Smile doesn't make sense to me. It portrays Illya's parents as revolutionaries, but the narrative of the short and the show demonstrates that they weren't.
No Blake doesn't get off scot free for abandoning her friends, especially if one of those friends already has abandonment issues already. It doesn't matter if she had other stuff to do, never abandon people who need you. She didn't even leave a note. In the words of Kakashi Hatake: Those who don't follow the rules are scum but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum.
But she didnt abandon them... she actually cared so much that she thought the best choice for her friends was for her to leave so they wouldnt get hurt by her past mistakes.

one thing that the weiss song leaves out, which is a shame, is that in the trailer after the song goes "Who Am I?" She yells "WINTER!"
