To be honest, I LIKE your choice of that “rose gold” copper-like shade. The contrast with the lovely new door panels is very pleasing to my eye. Also, if you look at the proverbial “colour wheel” (it’s on Wikipedia and Google and places like those), you’ll find that shades of orange harmonise with shades of blue. Kind of like shades of purple harmonise with yellow or red with green. Therefore, I’d say all the colours you already have “play nice with one another.” If you want to save yourself some effort, you could consider living with what you have of just a while. Take stock of how they make you FEEL. No matter what you decide, however, we’re all with you. Please enjoy your creation. Aloha!
Thank you so much, and not to worry...when I was talking about changing my mind at the end, I actually realized that what I wasn't liking actually wasn't those two colors. (Spoiler: it was when I put the newly painted armrest up against it is when I really had a problem). So, I actually really like those two colors, and Dad and I are working our plan to fix the other color issue. More on that next week! Thank you as always and aloha!!
The door color looks great against the door cards. A lot of cars of the era, especially base models used a gold or gold tone interior color to make things look upscale.I think it looks great as is and makes Carl classy. Much better than newer cars with one color interiors. Keep up the great work!
Thanks. Yeah, the more I thought about it, I actually like my color combination. I realized the problem was with something else, and that will be in next week's episode. Thank you!!
Great job guys! A tip for the future... When dealing with panels that are flat, it is really easy to transfer the locations of holes from the old panel to the new panel by using the old panel as a template. Just lay the old on top of the new, make sure all the edges are lined up properly, maybe clamp the panels together once they are lined up, and use the holes on the old panel to mark the locations on the new panel.
Thank you! I've actually changed my mind since we shot that and I love the combination. There's a different color problem, and I'll show that in next week's video. Thanks!!
Thanks so much. I actually thought about it for a bit after we shot that episode and realized that I loved the color combination, my problem was actually with something else--that's for next week's episode. Thank you again!!
Newcomer to your channel and I have to compliment you on your enthusiasm and obvious passion for a beautiful classic car. If you are an indicator of what is to come then there will be petrol heads well into the future who are more sophisticated then simply adding a wrap and some chrome wheels. Keep up the great work and positive and infectious enthusiasm!!
Hey, Ellie Just a thought. Have you guys considered using clearcoat on the brightwork after you clean them up? my understanding is it will prevent corrosion after you polish them. As always Carl is really coming into shape !😁😁👍
Looks really good! Lots of test fitting is key when you have to make all the correct cut outs for handles and everything. 0000 steel wool does wonders for trim. I use simichrome and a small polish wheel on a drill to get a crazy shine. Remember there are no mistakes just happy accidents lol
I love watching you and your Dad figure stuff out. Those door cards are beautiful and I really like the rose-gold door paint - fwiw. I have added some rolled, dense self-sticking roofing flashing to the interior door of a Vanagon that really helped make the doors sound so substantial when they close - not a big tinny thunk - but a substantial bank-vault clunk! Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing some disk brakes on Carl.
Thank you! Yeah, I've changed my mind and really like the color combination now. The real problem is one that we're fixing in next week's video. Thanks and YES disc brakes are coming!!
I saw this video come out today and couldn't wait to get home from work to watch it! Appreciate you sharing the prep tips on getting everything ready. The colors really complement each other! Great job as always!
I think the contrasting colors look good in my opinion. I really wrecked my top metal piece on my 64 Falcon interior door panel. Are there replacement pieces for those ? Great videos as I've watched over the years. You have a super patient Dad !!
Thank you! Yep, I actually changed my mind and realized that I liked the color combo, but my problem was with something else. Check that out next week. We had a hard time finding the door panel rails with online stores, but found some for decent prices on ebay. We bought from this same seller. Fair price and quick shipping: www.ebay.com/itm/154370755084
That's a good idea. I think it also might be that the inside hole/opening is a little small. We might have to sand that a bit too. Thanks again for that tip!
That "texture" you encountered while spraying your armrest happens often to me when using Sem too. It tend to happen more when the can hasn't been shaken for long enough or i've sprayed continuously without re-shaking it and it sort of foams up at the tip and just spits out blobs of paint and gives exactly that texture. Sem works great for most applications but this is something that is very frustrating from their line of products. I recommend you add a couple coats of their Low luster clear coat on your pieces to protect the paint. Makes it way less likely to get scratched or stained by use or cleaning agents Also, if you paint anything solid like steel, that is going to be exposed to sunlight, don't use the sem clearcoat as it is pretty bad when exposed to sun, it yellows, crack and peels off with time. Spray max 2k matte clear rattle cans are a way better product for non fexible application.
Good to hear that it wasn't just us. Thanks! And, spoiler alert for next week, but we ended up using that exact SEM low luster clear for our final coat. Great call!
I don't know if the drivers door was the first one you did but I have found that if you start on one of the rear doors first it works out better. If you mess up a little then it won't be staring you in the face every time you get into the car. On my computer the colors of the door look good but it's your car. Also if you can find it try using bronze wool instead of steel, the steel leaves small particles of iron than can start the rusting over, the bronze won't do that.
That's a great tip about starting with the back ones! Yeah, I rethought my decision after looking at the doors for a while. I actually realized that I love my color combination, but the problem was something else--we try to fix that in next week's episode. Thank you for the encouragement!!!
Thank you! I've changed my mind after sleeping on it and I love the combo now. There's a different color problem that we're fixing in next week's episode.

I am glad you called them door panels I don't know when it became popular to call them door cards. Great job on the car.
Thanks so much and glad we're using the right terminology!!
SEM products work incredibly well. Using them to restore my son's 1986 F150.

I really think “14 year old you”, picked an awesome interior color. The contrast is beautiful. Keep up the good work.

I like the Rose Gold shade against the panels. Very classy looking...
I think the door panel looks good with the color chosen . I would keep it like you have it it looks great ! keep up the great job on Carl . 👍

Hadn't thought of that. Great idea!

Glad you found Door Card Panels for Carl; they look great! He's lookin fine!
Thank you so much!!!

That's so nice!! Thank you!!
I Love this Job very and all See you have very fun of it 👍❤️👍
Looking forward to next week! You always have really clever solutions to any obstacles yall run up against
Thank you so much!!
Another way to "polish" chrome trim to remove rust is WD-40 and 4 ought steel wool.
Great tip! Thank you!!
always happy when you guys post a video
Thank you and sorry for the delays lately!
Great job! Keep up the good work!

I had to grind out the underside of the mullions where the screws that hold the door opener are to get my handles to pop on correctly.
That's a good idea. I think it also might be that the inside hole/opening is a little small. We might have to sand that a bit too. Thanks again for that tip!

Thank you! I've changed my mind after sleeping on it and I love the combo now. There's a different color problem that we're fixing in next week's episode.
Great job ya'll, really enjoyed the video.
Thanks so much!
"You're a shorter rail mam".... 😆
Yep. Solid Dad burn. 😂😂😂
You are so lucky you can get new door cards that match the originals- us poor guys with the Comets can't 😢😢
Yea, comet stuff is hard to find. I'm working on a 65 cyclone and many parts are a one year only item.
@@sheldoncooper6230 you can get Cyclone interior upholstery and door cards from Distinctive Industries
@@kevinbrown1368 oh, good to know. Thanks for that info. What year comet do you have?
Those lousy clips were the bane of my existence last year when I finally reassembled my door panels on my Camaro. I completely ruined the tool 🤣
YES! They were so hard to get on at first!
Quick question, did you name your falcon Carl in reference to the Disney movie ‘UP?’ I think it’s cute because you guys are Carl and Ellie 🥰
FYI I had to file down the depth of the escutcheon to make it fit
13:47 Just dawned on me a heat gun on that glue may of been quicker, easier & less chance to mess up the tabs
Good idea!! We'll keep that in mind for the future. Thanks!!
