Dutch here, 51 ... and I also drink coffee after dinner... I think I picked it up from Italian friends? Not sure because my parents also drink coffee after dinner but can't remember if they always did this or since I started to cook for them regularly .... Anyway.... Some Dutch also drink coffee after dinner 🙂 The Apéro should become fast part of Dutch culture!

Doesn't the coffee keep you up at night?

Drinking coffee after dinner used to be rather standard in the Netherlands. I never realized it might have become less customary.
The first thing I think about related to France are those disgusting "standing toilets". Really traumatizing. I know, people will go blah blah blah how much healthier they are, or whatever. But it's the single reason for which I will never visit France any more. Now I'm over 50 I even won't be able to use them. I can't squat any more.

Nothing wrong with assimilating a culture! I thought the painting behind you was apt - in the style of Dutch Masters with a French flavour.

Imagine me... an old, somewhat weird looking man, meeting someone and just starting to give kisses... I be in jail in 3 seconds flat. I would be dragged all over the internet, I would be called a pervert. (probably rightfully so)
