Laini Tayor said that she wanted to write a book where killing the monster wasn't the answer, and I love that. She dives into Minya more and oh my god I love how she handles it. I can't wait for your Muse of Nightmares review!

The writing is absolutely one of the best i've ever seen!! If narratives could weave a magic spell, this one did. It crushed my poor poor heart and gave me one of the worst story hangovers ever!
In short: i loved it too.

Oh, one of the best parts of Laini's writing for me (aside from her prose) is that she doesn't give away twists and then later bring it to light as though it should be shocking. In Muse there were multiple times where I read a part, realised something, then the characters came to the same conclusion in the same chapter. I feel like a lot of other authors aren't capable of doing that. They give away something and then their characters don't realise the repercussions of it until much later in the book and it honestly gets annoying.

I'm 100% certain Nero is gay and I love it. Tbh I thought him and Lazlo were going to become a gay couple before I reached the Sarai part in the first book. Now I'm halfway through Muse and I ship him with someone else (ya'll know who I'm talking about. It's wonderful)
(oh and the Kora + Nova parts in Muse are *perfection*)

omg i CAN'T BELIEVE i didn't mention that in this review but YES i thought the actual same thing. i thought nero was closeted and that he and lazlo were going to have some kind of romantic relationship. but then we learned about sarai and i was like lol jk. can't wait to see who you're talking about in muse!!

I gave this novel five stars just because I believe that Laini Taylor's beautiful writing deserves no less, and I was in sheer awe at her brilliant imagination. That being said, in my heart, I did not love this book as much as I should have. Maybe the long sequences of dreamworld were much too drawn out for me, but I felt compelled to skip through many pages multiple times, at the expense of Taylor's prose. I also think that I loved Minya too much to see her continuous fiery and passionate agony and hatred. All I wanted to do was give her a hug, and some real cake, of sweet cream tangy berries, however by the last page, that dream felt further out of reach than ever before. I want to find out the conclusion, and I want to experience Taylor's waltz of words again, but I'm not sure I can bear the seemingly perpetual and infinite melancholy.

I completely get what you mean about plot! I recently read Muse of Nightmares, which I think did a better job with plot (though the worldbuilding was still my favorite thing about it). I do think each book could have had about 100 pages cut to narrow in a bit more on the point of the story. I like the dream sequences... but there were plenty of things that detracted some from the story for me. I gave it 4 stars too!

I really agree with you, such a beautiful book, but (SPOILERS) am I the only one that didn't like what happened with Lazlo's character at the end? I liked how he was just a dreamer with a kind heart, turning him into a God felt kind of off to me? Maybe I'm missing something. I was really conflicted about the ending because there were still parts of the ending I loved that absolutely broke me in the best way. I am currently reading Muse of Nightmares, though, and it is beautiful so far, I'm hoping Laini Taylor can get me on board with the changes in Lazlo's character since everything else about it is amazing

I agree honestly! It was the one thing I didn't completely love about the book.

I love strange the dreamer but I agree. I would have love if he was just passionate about weep because of the stories that he heard when he was younger. I would have also been fine if he was a god but with different powers. Having him be a god that could easily change the tide of the conflict felt a little cheap. But this was still a great story.

i definitely see where you're coming from! i personally didn't really see it as lazlo "turning into a god," so much as he already was one and finally came into himself by the end. i think i wasn't upset with it because laini taylor had dropped hints from the very first chapter that lazlo was different. as a baby, he was "gray as rain," and when he touched the anchor, his hands were stained, so the build-up felt reasonable to me
