Fun fact: Robert Patrick the guy playing the T-1000 was a track runner. He intentionally stopped breathing while running to make it more "machine like".
The first time they did the scene where he chases John Connor on the motorbike in the parking structure, he cought up to him, because he is so fast.
Cameron the director jokingly shouted "cut! ok we are done, the movie is over." or something to that effect.
Guy was faster than the dirtbike, without breathing.

And then John went on to play Danny in American history x? Nuts

    • @boomeister2
      @boomeister2 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Some more fun facts: Robert Patrick trained himself to be able to fire the gun multiple times without blinking so he would look more robot-like. His performance in this movie is pretty remarkable. He doesn't get much credit, I'm guessing, because he's the bad guy.
Also, Linda Hamilton actually learned to pick a lock with paper clips so it would be authentic when she picked the lock on her "cell" door. During her dream sequence when she sees herself with a child at the playground, Linda Hamilton's twin sister played the part of herself with the child.
As far the rest of the Terminator movies, my advice is to stop here. The rest of them really suck.

I have to tell this story every time someone reviews T2: I was a kid when my dad worked next door in the office complex they used for the Cyberdyne building (he worked as a Silicon Valley engineer at a semiconductor company). As a result of notices by the receptionist and news published in the local paper, we ended up on-site the night Arnold was filmed on the 2nd floor with the mini-gun, and got a ton of family photos around the torched cop cars the next day.
Ironically, we were camping out in our van, watching “Masters of the Universe” on a small b&w tv when the shooting started.

When Arnold shot the tip off of the t-1000's hook, every following shot of him showed that he was missing three fingers until the scrap rejoined his foot in the street.
Miles's "Don't ask" comment showed that his bosses didn't explain where it came from to him either, he was just the employee who learned the most from studying it.
There was a cut scene where Sarah and John had to shut Arnold down to initiate some automated repairs or something. Sarah had to literally choose to re-activate him, and John found a setting where he could remove ALL of Arnold's programmed restrictions (good or bad) and truly give him free will. They replaced it all with the line "I am a learning machine."
Viewing advice: Watch T3 ONLY if drunk - it's horrible. T:Salvation isn't horrible, but plays really loose with the mythos and annoyed many fans. T:Genesis is fairly decent FanFic. I truly like T:Dark Fate, and consider it a worthwhile-though-lesser sequel to T2.

@@732ReviewCrew The Sarah Connor Chronicles is weird because it got better as it progressed (developing a unique plotline in the franchise), then it got cancelled after two seasons (before getting anywhere with that plotline). Personally, of all the sequels, I liked T:Salvation the most, just because it dared to do its own thing. I found T:Genysis too complicated (not to understand but to entertain - if you want to add more time loops, Back To The Future did it better) and T:Dark Fate a less bad failure (but still a failure) than what appeared to be the fan consensus. And Robert Patrick has been in a ton of things including being the actor that replaced David Duchovny in The X-Files. Since you're big ATLA fans, you might like knowing he was the VA of Piandao in the Sokka's Master episode. I saw him once in the waiting room of my vet's office in Studio City, CA. The Terminator and T2 were the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back for my generation.
The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. Some of the effects stand out like a sore thumb. But The Terminator is still a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing.
T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal.
I mean, Linda Hamilton was so great in T2, she made Sarah Connor one of the greatest, strongest, most iconic female roles ever put on film. Her Sarah Connor is right up there with Cameron's own Ellen Ripley in Aliens and Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.

No its just Robert Patrick with fake arms attached to him. When you see a close-up of Robert Patrick, hes in a fake helicopter that is attached to a crane on a truck. The truck moves down the freeway with the mock up helicopter and Robert Patrick inside it, to give the illusion hes flying it. That footage is then brilliantly edited with the real helicopter being flown by a Proffessional pilot for the wide shots. That pilot is the renowned Chuck Tamburro, one of the greatest helicopter pilots ever. Hes actually in the film. He's the pilot of the helicopter in the movie, and the T1000 tells him to get out.

The whole 'bait and switch' idea was the original plan for the movie. We weren't supposed to know at the beginning who was the good guy and bad guy until the big action scene in the back of the mall. But for all us back in the early 90's, before the movie came out, the trailers pretty much spoiled everything by saying the Terminator was the good guy this time.

    Model 101 = Arnold skinsuit.
( The T800s were fielded with lots of models.)
    Fun fact:
The extended director's cut was actually the cut Shown in Theatres on sneak preview showings premiere night. (All 2h30m)
They then cut it for general release (2hr), Is broadcast release (90m), The first extended edition (2h15m), Then finally we released as the directors extended cut in its original form.🤬
(You are missing 30 minutes of the movie.
    Watching this version.)
The nice thing about the Terminator franchise is because it is a time travel show , everything is canon. There are no discrepancies , and it doesn't matter that the time line looks like a hairball coughed up by the Cheshire cat. Movie, Tv series, Novel, Comic Game... All of it has a place in the franchise and works.....

The desert scene is where I grew up, the part with the store and looking at the map on the car is 140th street east Lancaster Calif. The store was where are bus stop was for school. My younger brother got Arnolds autograph and a kiss from Linda Hamilton, sadly I was in the military by then so missed out on meeting them. Our dog coco peed on there costumes when they were hanging on the rack out side according to my mom. I still have the newspaper article that my mom gave me when they filmed it there.

Very fun reaction, guys. I subbed for BSG, but guess I'll have a look at your other stuff, too. Showing my age here, but I think it's crazy that there are people out there that never saw T2 or did not be aware of some of the major plot points. It still holds up so well. Fun fact that someone else may have mentioned already: For the shots involving the security guard and his T-1000 clone, they used real life twins playing these roles, instead of some special effect or camera / editing tricks. The same for the scenes with two Sarah Connors at the end: It was Linda Hamilton and her identical twin sister. Her twin sister also appeared as her mirror image in the scene where they are reprogramming Uncle Bob.
If you're taking movie suggestions, I suggest 2012's "The Impossible" about the 2004 Tsunami disaster in Indian Ocean. It's quite a heavy movie, but has some impeccable performances including a young Tom Holland. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of this horrible event.

There are many theories of working out the timeline but nobody actually knows since timetravel is not possible. One theory is that the moment the first T-800 and Kyle Reese comes back the timeline splits off and thats on a whole seperate branch now like its a parallel universe, completely independent from the original.
T2 is one of the best sequels ever made ( top 3 on my list ). The CGI got a lot better and the T-1000 effects are phenomenal. 2 years prior Abyss came out ( another great James Cameron sci-fi movie you guys should definitely see ) and without going into spoiler let me just say that they were working hard to create a believable fluid simulation for thats why the T-1000's effects look so good. Also shoutout to Patrick Robinson for his performance, he nailed it. Much leaner and skinnier than Arnold but he was just as menacing if not more. Really great stuff. Both the practical effects and the CGI are amazing in this movie, its actually mindblowing how well they hold up. There is a story when Cameron and one of the producers were discussing how are they going to the scene in CGI when the helicopter flies under the overpass and they will have to get the movements right so the pilot was part of the discussion and he was like...well I am fairly certain I could fly under that thing for real so there will be no need for CGI... and he did. :)
Not sure if you guts catch it but in T1 when Arnold arrives at the first Sarah Connor's house, there are some kid's toys on the road he drives over and the black truck is the toy version of the truck the T-1000 drove when he was chasing John after he escaped from the arcade.
By the time the people in the Pentagon realized that Skynet is acting up it was over, the software was on the internet there was no stopping it. It actually tricked them to untie its hands. It's addressed in the next movie and I quite like it to be honest the it happens.
T2 put that bar really fuckin' high there was no way the next movie is going to be this good. It's the problem when you make a perfect movie, anything that comes after will not measure up. I still say you guys should watch them and make up your own opinion about them, dont just accept other's. Are they as good as T2? Well ofc not but they are good action sci-fi that worth a watch. I liked T3 and T4 a lot more than the last two but thats just me. I think you guys would still enjoy it, especially for the first time.

Pretty sure that I saw when it came out VHS with my Dad but I have seen it so many times on pretty much every video format. I don't it happening anymore but back in the 90s when there were more independent theaters, they would do midnight movies and rent prints from the big movies like this. I work for a company called Landmark and we did midnight movies and would always get stuff like Terminator, Bladerunner, etc and do showing on weekends. It was rad.
The theatrical release is near perfect but the director's cut is worth it if you every do a rewatch. This movie and Aliens pretty much set James Cameron up for life. He could then go to something like The Abyss which wasn't as successful but still good, and then of course on to Titanic and Avatar which at one point or another were the high grossing films of all time. All of the other Terminator films are watchable but not particularly good; if it was me I would just watch T3 and maybe Terminator Salvation and then stop, or just stop with 2 and be done.
If you haven't seen Alien by Ridley Scott and/or Cameron's Sequel Aliens they both are great in their own right. For me I love the orignal Alien more, it is right up there with The Thing for the best sci-fi horror but James Cameron's Aliens is like top 5 of action sci-fi up there with the first Matrix, Bladerunner. The effects work and overall quality had a seismic effect their genre at the time of release.
By this point Arnold was already a household name but he was a mega star after this and went on to do some lighter movies like Twins and Kindergarten Cop which, though very dated, are a good watch. I grew up on Arnold as Conan, John Matrix from Commando, and Dutch from Predator. You kinda can't go wrong with Arnold action from the 80s, even mindless shit like Red heat. Always fun to watch him disassemble bad guys.
I really dug that Mikey caught the dog barking immediately. He has watched so much Expanse which required so much attention so you can catch stuff that he is trained to pay attention to details.
@Joe - The scene with Dyson and the jr. engineer talking about the checking out the tech and him asking where it came from was just establishing the reason why and how Judgement Day was still coming, it never comes up again in any direct way. It was also to introduce us to Dyson since we are going to see him later.

    This was the theatrical version.
imo, better than the Director's Cut.
The DC had some extra scenes added, as the T-1000 started to malfunction a bit.
Like when he was "fake Sarah", the camera pans down to show the T-1000's legs merging with the metal plate of the floor/deck.
And it has a really weird ending added, which feels very out-of-place, imo.
This version, with just the road at the end, and Sarah's voiceover, was all the ending needed to be.
(For the T-1000 "fake Sarah" scene, when Linda Hamilton was nearest to the camera, it was actually her twin sister in the background.)
Her sister also played a part in the "Reset the switch" scene in the Director's Cut, when Arnie was facing the mirror.
The extended scene of that, was one of the few parts of the Director's Cut I thought was worth seeing.
There's a DC of "The Abyss" as well, which I didn't see until about 9 years after the movie was released.
I didn't like the Director's Cut of that either. It added a lot more scenes near the end, and totally takes you out of the movie. lol

Gotta love the parallel between Sarah and the Terminator, how her mission and her trauma made her into a machine, ignoring her son, his feelings and finally the inhumanity as she attempts to terminate Dyson to ensure victory in the future, just like the Terminator.
Similarly, whilst Robert Patrick's T-1000 seems emotionless, it clearly *does* have some feelings as it's actively cruel and malicious - it didn't need to show itself to the security guard with the lucky cup, for example.
Terminator 3 is OK, though it was clearly designed to boost Arnie's popularity as he was running for governor of California, and it's a bit lighter, a bit more family friendly.
The rest are garbage, don't waste precious reaction time on them.
