I think you should let him get another car. The way I look at it is that he came to you admitting he made a mistake in picking the car he did before anything happened to it. Which shows he actually has sat and thought about the pros and cons of owning that vehicle. Which to me is very mature for someone that age. That is something to be proud of. My bet is almost all kids his age would wait till something went wrong to come to that decision. But he came to this decision while the car is still fine. And the fact you said he even loves the car and still came to you like you did is awesome. I'd show him what you have. Let him drive them then give him a couple days to over the pros and cons of each car and then decide. That is just my opinion. But either way it is truly awesome for you to give him a car like you did. That is awesome. I can tell you are an awesome Dad and I have nothing but respect.
Mark on Highway to Heaven was played by Victor French, who also played the memorable role of Mr. Edwards on Little House on the Prarie. The character of Mr. French also appears in the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Great memories. Michael Landon played Jonathan on Highway to Heaven and Charles Ingalls on Little House.
That's interesting $1,500 seems like alot of money for a 7 year old car back then - I paid not much more than that for a 3 year old Chevy Chevette in 1989 for my first car.
The Ford LTD 2 was built on the same platform as the Thunder Bird, and Cougar, my Brother had the Sport model, a d had Mercury, his was a 302 mine was a 351.
Don’t let him out of his pick. The education he’ll have will be priceless. Learning to wrench, solve problems. This will be a life changing decision. From repairs, not to buy a vehicle by its looks, think about longevity and economics. Let him grow.
Agreed. It is a great experience for him. The wrenching skills that you learn as a teenager will save you tons of money as an adult. You never know. He may end up driving the Saab for thousands of miles before a major repair.
Bought four door LTD of same age in 1987 from Florida to drive coast to coast, think it cost $900 from the back of a dealers lot, it was either the LTD or a Renault 14 for the trip.... no brainer! The LTD was great other than a failed water pump, ended up getting totalled in Mexico.
No one forgets that first car or the experience of getting it. Don't make it into a bad experience for your son! He'll never forget it. This is one chance to create a really cool memory of yourself. Don't screw it up! 😂😂
That LTD is a must have, I think your son Nick would love that car. I had a 1971 2 door LTD with the 400 engine as my first car at age 16 in the 80's, I loved it, yes I was ribbed by my friends but they had what everyone else had but I always had a date on Friday and Saturday night, while they drove around with their buddies..
A 79 4 door LTD ll was my mom's car when I was in school, and one of the first cars I drove! 😂 It was a pita to park with that aircraft carrier hood! And that 351M could spin the tire if it wanted to! Lol! Hope you get it Randy.
16:38 think that Mike would have a great 👌time and fun doing that merc up and making it right Randy great content vehicle man and would possibly get the parts he needs all from salvage awesome find man!💯💫💯👍
Thanks for the content Randy. I went online to check out the Mazda at IAA but it didn't exist. IAA can be funny in that way sometimes. You're lucky they let you start them and it seems like you have a good bit of time to check out the inventory. Our local IAA here in Phoenix is only open to inspection on Mondays and for 4 hours, from 10 to 2. I love how you call out the people who leave the ignition on so the battery drains and all the other nefarious crap some people pull. You're one of the best Randy.
I think Mike is going to love that Mercedes SL600 V12 I like it too I don't love Mercedes but Mercedes with a V12 is something else I like this one I like this message❤
It would’ve be so cool to have a dad like you growing up. I wish I would have been able to pick and choose on a vehicle, but I never did have a dad. I had a stepdad which he was great to me, but I always had to work for everything on my own including purchasing my own vehicle.
One of my middle school substitute teachers had an really old ford ltd with insanely low mileage it was extremely ugly when he first got it but i remember in 7th grade he had became one of my permanent substitute teacher for most of the year because my actual teacher was on maternity leave while I learned that he was an total hairypotter nerd and that he was actually in love with my first car that i built in 6th grade for drag racing ( was the world’s fastest srt4 for 6 years ) so he literally srt4 his ltd trying to be cool but it was so dumb i screamed nerd teacher trying to cool kid #nevernerd
Oh my God that brings back a lot of memories in my childhood days you gotta bring it to the channel, bro I would love to see that car on the channel. Buy it oh my God, old school. So cool.
Randy: from one crazy car guy to another. The LTD 11 is the smaller LTD, it was based on the Torino platform. After the people at Ford took the Torino name away. You are correct it looks alot better without the landow roof. Peace
Man thats a nice LTD! You have to bring it to the channel and get her fixed up. Some original hubcaps, a polish and a little patina and she will make a nice cruiser.
Thats an LTD II and was a mid sized car. The LTD was a full sized car. This vehicle took the place of the mid sized Gran Torino after 1976. LTD II was produced from 1977 to 1979. A lot of people referred to the LTD II as a four door sedan as a four door Thunderbird.
Yes buy the ford, I love the dime light either the map lights there. A new gas cap, some lube on the hinges new tires, if you can’t get original hubcaps then get some regular run of the mill, unless you get some bedazzled kind of hubcaps could work. And get a toe hitch on the back for like a small mower trailer or teardrop camper like what you pull behind a motorcycle
I had a 1979 LTD, one of my favorite cars! As far as Nick, give him a 2nd chance. He's such a good kid. I wish he could do a couple of walk arounds with you. Maybe he wants the green Hyundai?? That was your pick and I was hoping he'd pick that one. Thats if you still have it.
This was a great walk around I enjoyed this laot and man that sucks about that GMC canyon that is a really nice truck and it's totaled and the LTD is pretty sweet too would definitely love to see u have it and get it running and back on the road again. Keep up the great work brother have a good one take care god bless and I will see you on rhe next one
I'm justy gonna say this... When my cars broke, my dad bought the parts and I fixed it under his supervision and guidance. I can fix anything because of this.
Realistic radio... The finest in audio from Radio Shack LOL... I remember going to Radio Shack when I was a kid. It was a big deal at the time back in the 70's because I grew up in a very small rural town
That LTD front couch i love that with the older cars, and ofcourse they drive a certain way.. like floating hehe Now for a first car best be a cheap one, i had my first car bumper crashed in first 3 days of ownership lol. hi5
Besides the potential of being out of gas, the ignition box on the driver's splash shield could be an issue. $35 and 5 minutes work and it's good. Justt remember to bolt it down before plugging it in or the lacknof ground will ruin the new ignition box. But it is worth fixing uo the LTD II.
Micheal Landan gave money to buy land in Malibu for a kids baseball park .My Wife when she was a child went to school with his kids and lived nearby his x wife and children.

The LTD II is an underrated car. They are literally a rebodied Torino and all of the '72-76 Torino components work on these. They can be nice handling cars and an easy big block swap, using Torino/Ranchero big block mounts and radiator. My '79 Thunderbird is a near twin to this car. This is a good builder.
Personally, the seating position in a Mazda 2 or even Mazda 3 reminds me of a space capsule. Awkward. Keep the great videos coming ! I no longer drive for health reasons but I truly enjoy your content.
I like the LTD. I grew up in a Ford family. I'm looking for a replacement for Betty my Buick. There is a lot of love and money in Betty but the transmission went bad recently and I can't drive her. She is a early '90s GM rear wheel drive so shouldn't be too bad to replace the transmission but I'm not a mechanic.

LOL
351 modified 400 engine Randy I had one that exact color with the same color interior. I loved that car, it was owner with about 40,000 miles.
Glad you I D'd the engine - looks like the big lincoln under the hood too

extra person to pay for fuel.
@zythr9999 those cars got better mpg then you think.
@@harleydude-xo8pu That may be, still had to have big fuel tank because of mileage😃
@zythr9999 who was complaining when gas was .70 cents a gallon
@@harleydude-xo8pu That was the problem. Many thought it would cost that much forever.
That's the York 2 cylinder A/C compressor and it is a cooling beast. Especially with R-12
and R12 is almost as cheap as R134a now.

@zythr9999 true! I think it got about 13 mpg in the city if we were lucky.
Anytime Randy uploads or even uploads a re uploads it’s a great day to be a auto auction rebuilds fan
The sound of the door opening on that LTD took me right back. Back in the day, my dad had both a 75 Torino Elite and a 78 T-Bird.
The name of the color on that Challenger is “Hellraisin”
My parents had 2 of those when I was growing up, a sedan and a wagon. Fond memories of rolling around with no seatbelts on.
Yes get the LTD. Your almost there 16 away from 500K. Good work!
LS460 - This walkthrough was fantastic - LTD, 600 and now a 460 - Great Vid Randy - - Thank you
That destroyed ElCamino at the beginning was intriguing, haven't highlighted or show some of the carnage ones in awhile.
The Mazda would be a good car for teaching Nick to drive a stick. The LTD II is so cool, get it running then just clear coat over the old paint.
Time stamp 03:30. This LTD just keeps getting better and better! I actually like the colors. So period correct. And how nice that interior is!

@@danielventura8073 I agree 💯 percent!!!!
My uncle had one back in the day. Same year and color, however it may have had the vinyl top.

My folks had two LTD's when I was growing up, once two door and one four door. I have great memories of both.
I had a baby blue 1978 LTD II back in the early 80's, it was a nice car. That brought back memories!
The Ford LTD was one of the best Fords ever made in my opinion!!!

Even the Granada POS?

These weren't too good. You're thinking of the full sized Ford LTD, these are the smaller Torino based ones.
That LTD sounds like fuel pump or lack of fuel! Cuz the crank sounds so healthy gorgeous find! And what a mint interior
It’s out of gas because they didn’t have the key 🔑 to the gas cap. I’d get it, clean the tank with a new fuel pump and drive it into the sunset 🌅
I had a 78 LTD II Sport. It was comfortable and an all around great car that I wish I still had.
