The people who tell you that Kewpie mayo is bad for you are wrong! Don't listen to them. It is a healthy whole food in proper proportions. That was the perfect proportion of fat to the rest of the ingredients. And, it's delicious! :)
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but this is very similar to a British recipe called "Bubble & Squeak", except bubble & squeak has potato as well. The originations are similar as well - poor people used to make bubble & squeak from the leftover potato & veg of the Sunday roast (the main family meal of the week). It meant that food was not wasted, plus the ingredients for one meal could actually stretch to 2 or 3 meals and thus save money. My mum used to do this when I was a kid, but froze the bubble & squeak she made, and she would then use it whenever she needed an extra something for dinner :)

It seems interesting enough because of the cabbage, so we never use it. Could be a nice addition though. Just be mindful of quantity because it can make it bitter

I have made okonomiyaki with this recipe so many times & every time it’s a hit in my family! My picky eater son loves it so much. My husband said my okonomiyaki is better than the one from specialized okonomiyaki restaurant near our place (we live in Canada, so not a lot of restaurant sells okonomiyaki). I always put lots of shrimp in my homemade okonomiyaki. So, arigatou for the simple recipe Yuka chan! 😊

I wasn't sure about this because I am honestly not very fond of cabbage. Let me say this is so delicious. I added some canned tuna in the basic one because I can't do bacon. Oh my, that made it awesome! I even made my own sauce. It's kinda of hard to find the actual sauce from Japan here in Georgia in the US. Thank you for your simple recipes. Well, my first one was an absolute disaster. There's a definite learning curve to flipping. The second one was mochi and cheese and was a success. I need to make them smaller too.

I love okonomiyaki! My favorite is a Hiroshima style with shrimp but when I lived in Miyagi dotonbouri mostly had Osaka style so that's most of what I ate when I lived in Japan

Your instructions were very helpful and it was so delicious. Also, it's easier for me to find the right kind of ingredients since you also live in Spain right now and the ingredients avaiable are the same, cause sometimes I really struggle to find some of them cause they don't sell them here

I need to try these varieties, I love okonomiyaki and have made it a lot, but I usually keep it simple to use up veggies I have in the fridge, never really played around with proteins or the mochi (which I really need to!) I love that your recipe is super simple, but gosh I have a hard time making them smaller, I just get so excited to eat, I misjudge the size and always a pain to flip hahaha
Okomomiyaki appears highly versatile - apart from the cabbage bit, you can also add whatever you have to hand. Right? I love your thinking, tho. Keep it simple. It's hard to go wrong

I use ground flax seed and water or garbanzo bean flour (besan) and water instead of egg.

You can skip the egg and try adding some potato starch or corn starch if you have :)
