Danny your a genuine first class gentleman . Incredibly tasty, creative, funky, soulful, drummer. Loved your playing from 1968- 1978 75 %- l of the greatest Chicago Albums ! Stay positive , Brother ; Love U man ; Warmest Regards , Gary 🙋♂️❤👏🎷🏆
Good tips. I'll add to keep playing as we age as it helps with circulation, flexibility, hand-foot-eye coordination, and frankly it's just plain fun to keep playing with or without a gig. Tinnitus is also a problem from playing many years. Danny Seraphine is right up there with many of the great drummers past and present.
I destroyed my hearing by not wearing ear protection every time i played a gig and practiced. I am 60 yrs old and have hearing loss and tinnitis. Be smart my friends
I randomly decided to take some lessons in my 20's. First lesson, I sat down and went to start playing when my instructor stopped me, wondering why I hadn't put on the headphones I had moved off the throne. I told him I didn't wear any, and he told me about his hearing loss. I started drumming in 5th grade, and went through our school band. Not one of my school instructors taught us to wear ear protection. By 24, I already had developed tinnitus in both ears and partial hearing loss in one. I have musician friends that have repetitive motion disorders from their respective instruments. Even singers need to be careful how they use they body. No matter what your instrument is, do some research on how to do it safely. Many aren't lucky enough to randomly come accross the info they need to save themselves from surgery and permanent injury.
Vthank you Danny. I've been a big fan since MAKE ME SMILE! Love that tune. I have learned to play it very well and every time I go somewhere someone always wants to hear it. Thank You again. Great health to ya master, and keep playing.
Only drum with sticks that are free of hormones, artificial flavors, high fructose corn syrup, or greasy oils. Processed wood is also bad for you. Only vitamin supplement drum sticks for me.
I appreciate his advice for sure! however, drums are a very loud instrument and he didn't talk about ear and hearing health. I wish he would have touched on that a little.
They make custom plugs at places like Chicago's Sensaphonics. They were 250.00 back in 2000, BUT I still use them.all the time. They're for mixing live.
First drummer I thought of when Danny mentioned good posture was Buddy Rich. Watching a video of Buddy recently I was surprised at his lack of good posture.
Learn how to use rebound to your advantage, instead of just muscling through your drumming. Stay relaxed. Learn how to use momentum to generate volume instead of muscular force.
I agree with these guy's. I've played about 10 years, and never broken anything. Minus one stick on purpose to see what it takes. None of my neighbors would accuse me of playing like a girl...lol.
1:23, yeah, and hunching over is liable to get you whacked in the head with your own stick, too. Lol. I've found that the less sugar/carbs you eat, the less foot and back pain you have. You also need less sleep.
Yeah but when you're older do you want to slowly not be able to drum like you used to and watch everything you worked for fade away as the pain gets too much to play through?
I loved Danny's playing with Chicago, he was so creative on drums.
strong core - posture - sound. "we are the most athletic in the band". absolutely
Gosh,
Even as a bassist I love hearing this guys advice about health and staying centered.
Excellent, really enjoyed this. I'm 28 and already try to be as healthy as possible in order to preserve myself behind the drums - thanks, Drumeo!
Good advice concerning one's health. I am about Danny's age and posture is probably the most important consideration for me right now.

Wise words. Thanks Danny, hope you're drumming when you're 80!

"I'm not a master of yoga by any stretch."

+EvilAlbear 😂
and naturally gluten free!
+theothertroll Right. Pure Vitamin A and Vitamin D. And...the whole alphabet.

I guess thats because the obvious solution to hearing damage is to wear ear protection
Here ill do it for you
Wear earplugs.

Thank you
Posture is important for everything in life...although Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa didn’t play like that.
First drummer I thought of when Danny mentioned good posture was Buddy Rich. Watching a video of Buddy recently I was surprised at his lack of good posture.
Great advice. He looks kind of like my dad.
pretty cool lesson
What Hi-Hats were he playing?
Look like zildjian k dark
what's the song at the beginning?
How to prevent tendinitis?
Supportive shoes, take it easy on the pedals, use correct stick grip style, use your muscles rather than flop around your joints
Stay hydrated.

Yes!
Im struggling to stay in a playing state at 27, my first is basically a distant memory
I like how his cup of water is mic'd up... must be that 'fluid' hi hat sound...
But in all seriousness great tips and advice
The people who dislike this must like playing with pain ... What the hell is wrong with people ?
1:23, yeah, and hunching over is liable to get you whacked in the head with your own stick, too. Lol.
I've found that the less sugar/carbs you eat, the less foot and back pain you have. You also need less sleep.
Those shoes look comfy
Don't get sick like joey jordison
that fatty
lol something different never hurts :D
This dude is so woke. Unbelievable
Yeah yeah would rather just play mate , im no athlete
I don't see why being an athlete is irrelevant to drumming.
Yeah but when you're older do you want to slowly not be able to drum like you used to and watch everything you worked for fade away as the pain gets too much to play through?
Cai Durkan I guess his plan is to become a rockstar and overdose after the 33 years old mark.
Great video. Thanks.
