My second run of 100% speedrun of Prehistorik 2. I've finally reached sub-40 which is nice. Great start with bad run near the end. Some strats from any% run are used here, though I still haven't figured out how to do the ice skip in Level 7, which can be faster. The routes are also modified to avoid going twice the same route, but further optimization is still possible.
In-game percentage count is based on:
1) Collecting foods/items that are permanently available (except credits)
2) Hitting spots that hides foods/items
3) Hitting secrets that reveals/destroys platforms (e.g. ice blocks in level 7, hidden floating platforms etc.)
Other stuffs like 1ups, spoon/fork/knife, BONUS letters, foods that spawn from hitting spots, skulls, bombs, etc. are not counted into 100% according to this game. The definition of 100% is based on 100% count at the end of every level.
Generally in 100% run, you often abusing checkpoint respawn by pressing F1 to lose a life to travel around faster and avoid collecting food that spawns from hitting spots to save time. Foods collected before pressing F1 are not counted at the end of level, thus saving a little time. Sometimes you can collect extra food without worry of wasting time at the end of level if you need to lose a life at some point later. But for other levels without losing life like level 1, it will definitely waste a few seconds.
Note:
1) Level 3 (Base) proceeds to normal route and not pig section route. Also in non-cracked version the colour palette is correct which is not pink.
2) Level 4 (Jungle) oddly counts 100% based on foods collected within pig section, and not including level before entering pig section. If finishing level without entering pig section, maximum percentage is 50%. This run finishes everything the level identifies into percentage count, though everything before the pig section needs to be manually verified. So this is more accurately 150% if done everything.
3) Level 7 (Snow) correctly counts as 100% in non-cracked version. If played on cracked version (i.e. level 3 should be pink) then it should display 155%, though this is not confirmed and more testing is needed.
Special thanks to pre2.mine.nu website for 100% routing strategies.
A beautiful golden rune. Congratulations, lots of new optimizations, nice to watch!
Can you say something about pressing Q after finishing a level? Does it speed up in some way? If so, how did you found it?
Have you ever used the P key?
@speedylff Eyy, thanks a lot!
The Q key is actually just me assigning a global hotkey to split time in Livesplit. So it has nothing to do with speeding up lol. It is just for me to check how good my reflex is in splitting time to next level. But fun fact, the Q key acts as a jump button for the character in-game, just like the up arrow key.
The P key is used to pause the game, which does nothing but waste time in speedrun, so it is never used. I probably left the key at there because when I attempted to do the bat skip in level 9 any%, pausing multiple times is needed so I can react to the bat movement, which if you are skilled enough you also don't really need the P key anyway.
Excellent speedrun. I wonder: what exactly are the requirements for 100%?
Thanks! I've written about the requirements in detail in video description, but generally for this game you have to make the counter to be 100% at the end of level by doing these things below:
1) Collecting foods/items that are permanently available (except credits)
2) Hitting spots that hides foods/items
3) Hitting secrets that reveals/destroys platforms (e.g. ice blocks in level 7, hidden floating platforms etc.)
For other stuffs that do not count I generally do not go out of my way collecting them as it might waste a bit of time during food counting at end of level. You can also refer to level map at pre2.mine.nu website to locate the foods and secrets for 100%.
Turning off the light in the game is some kind of penalty? Why everybody so care to turn it back on in the game?
If you mean the part at Level 3, actually the strategy here in the speedrun is obsoleted in newer WR record run where it is not necessarily needed to suicide to turn back the light on as it actually takes more time to do. Back then, when I use this strategy, it is just a coincidence because the warp is placed in convenient position, it allows me to use suicide in order to reduce the food count at the end of level to save time while turning the light back on to be able to see clearly while collecting food using hangglider with minimal impact on time during 100% speedrun.
In short turning light off is a minor penalty which makes it harder to see the surroundings and collect food efficiently during hangglider part, but an expert 100% speedrunner won't be affected by it much, using warp suicide to turn on light and reduce food count is a strategy suitable for beginners.
