What I feel personally about Deepika, she has a very long way to go, she is just 7-8 year old in the Industry, she has already made a space for herself in the minds of the people...
deepika seems a bit immature for the kind of serious questions and issues that they talk about . She is replying to the questions like its a film promotion and does not recognize that the questions are to be answered keeping the whole fraternity in mind and not about her . Aamir is the only good choice here . Maybe Vidya balan or some senior actress would have sufficed for the lady part .

This was all repetitive, Karan should never interview Aamir Khan again. Karan can come up with cliched questions only even though Aamir was making an effort to make it a serious interaction. I am not going to talk about the other person, too much has already been spoken about the lady's innocence (ignorance) !! If these people were looking for a serious discussion on Hindi films why don't they invite people like Mr.Hirani, Mr. Danny Boyle ( he could shed some light on how he manged the worst Oscar winning film ever, since Indians seem to be obsessed with the idea !), may be famous Australian director Paul Cox ( he has some very interesting observations about Bollywood). Why everything has to be KWK like experience !! People can handle better, try us !!
Add Vishal B to that list. He made the best movie of this year. I dont get Raju Hirani, but he has made some very successful movies, so yes, he could share his pov. Indians aren't very good at handling criticism from a foreigner (whites especially) and any honest discussion would have resulted in boycotts and controversies. Through this whole discussion, just three things come to the fore:- A) Aamir Khan has really come on his own when it comes to making sense and holding on to the sensibility of the platform and the topic of discussion, sharing some really insightful and thought provoking ideas about the stature and position of Indian Cinema, nationally as well as globally. Though not a fresh take but definitely an open minded one. B) Deepika was here only to provide some respite to the onlookers who simply wanted an eye candy among serious topic based discussions as this because she not only failed to create an impact with her answers, but gave away the fact that she is not at all opinionated when it comes to the craft of cinema. She is here to earn money and do her job well, without caring about the prosperity or downfall of the Indian Hindi film Industry. C) Karan has been his witty self, sounding frivolous yet sensible at times. His speaking skills are really praiseworthy but behind his compensatory flowery words and eloquence are hidden his lack of originality and innovation when it comes to being a game changer by presenting fresher ideas, breaking stereotypical barriers and taking his directorial identity seriously. My suggestions for such a discussion are actors like Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Farhan Akhtar. Among directors, Dibakar Bannerji, Ayan Mukherji, Ketan Mehta and Mahesh Bhatt would be a great deal to watch out for. Having said that, Karan and Aamir were definitely strong enough too, though Deepika, graceful and subtle, but a very big misfit for such discussions.

Fabulous forty-five minutes from the trio of Aamir, Karan and Deepika. Aamir was insightful and full of depth as usual, Karan a very good and witty moderator and Deepika, pretty good I should say.The questions from the audience, could've been better. That lame statement from one chap, about doing films for charity -- how stupid. You have to make commercially viable cinema so that all the profits percolate to every level in the film industry, help it stay alive.And then with your share of the profits you can do your charity, quietly. Karan gave an excellent reply. Anyway, hats off to HT for an entertaining insightful session.
I think the guy who asked the films for charity question should be more specific. Look at the top earners and all those movies are crap, the crores club. The question should be more about why crores are spent in making,marketing such films that are have no impact at all on the public except to mint money, that's the only purpose. Obviously films for charity is absurd and whatever charity people in film industry does is private.
I have to say that though I do like Deepika as an actress and do agree that she has talent, but as far as the discussion of these topics go the option to choose Deepika is a true proof of hypocrisy in the industry.Grant it that now she is known for acting and she chose a movie like Fanny Frernandes (which in my opinion is extremely overrated but do agree that it's "off beat"movie). For Gods sake she did HNY and Race 2 (just to name a few)! Two utterly meaningless movies and the very core definition of what they all were talking against. In my opinion Kangana Ranaut would have been perfect to be part of this interview, because from very start of she has done movies that were not exactly "entertainment package" like most of the "hit" movies such as Dhoom 3, Kick, HNY, etc.. With her movies we kind of stumbled upon and saw it for the heck of it, but then soon enough realized they were actually good movies. Yes she does have a few movies that are not very good, but most of them are! Deepika has on the other hand done many of those "guaranteed 100 cr" movies just to gain credibility - hence why I think it is hypocritical of them to chose her. Plus this interview kind of confirmed my doubt that she doesnt have her own opinion (in a sense that she doesn't share them just because she wants to be on everyone's good side) She was too afraid of agreeing with Amir yet she kept trying to hint on being on his side. And honestly she acted like a drunk teenage girl not knowing what is happening around her. I'm saying this in-spite of being her fan. Whilst every interview I've seen of Kangana (beside the promotional ones) she has never been afraid of saying how things really are and what her opinion is on it.
Dude that film gave her box office success and if you really want her to do some meaningful roles then stop watching films like happy new year and Chennai express in theatre she did a film like piku which did 110 crores where as chennai express did 287 crores obviously she will go towards those films because they are increasing her brand vale it's very easy for you to come and comment on her but you only she knows her condition if you were in her place you would have also done that you will also go for mindless films because those films increase your brand value

I disagree with Aamir when he says there should be more stars and his take on star system. Shouldn't stars or general actors/actress should be the last thing to consider while doing films, they are important but not important compared to acquiring better,different and more number writers and directors. Now, we have the same group of directors and writers for a long time along with the same actors/actress. Even with new actors/actress coming in, there are few new directors and very few writers. More importance should be on that department.
Maybe he means that there should be more stars, because then it will give directors more options to choose from while casting, instead of today's scenario, where you would take an actor because he/she is more popular at the time, or because they actually have the dates. But you're right, writers, screenplay writers, dialogue writers, and other such "behind-the-scenes" people should be more here. I'm not really sure about Bollywood, but in Tamil cinema, you would have one guy doing the story, screenplay, dialogues, and direction, and mostly those "one man show" directorials end up really badly...

In my opinion Kangana Ranaut would have been perfect to be part of this interview, because from very start of she has done movies that were not exactly "entertainment package" like most of the "hit" movies such as Dhoom 3, Kick, HNY, etc.. With her movies we kind of stumbled upon and saw it for the heck of it, but then soon enough realized they were actually good movies. Yes she does have a few movies that are not very good, but most of them are! Deepika has on the other hand done many of those "guaranteed 100 cr" movies just to gain credibility - hence why I think it is hypocritical of them to chose her. Plus this interview kind of confirmed my doubt that she doesnt have her own opinion (in a sense that she doesn't share them just because she wants to be on everyone's good side) She was too afraid of agreeing with Amir yet she kept trying to hint on being on his side. And honestly she acted like a drunk teenage girl not knowing what is happening around her. I'm saying this in-spite of being her fan. Whilst every interview I've seen of Kangana (beside the promotional ones) she has never been afraid of saying how things really are and what her opinion is on it.

Dude that film gave her box office success and if you really want her to do some meaningful roles then stop watching films like happy new year and Chennai express in theatre she did a film like piku which did 110 crores where as chennai express did 287 crores obviously she will go towards those films because they are increasing her brand vale it's very easy for you to come and comment on her but you only she knows her condition if you were in her place you would have also done that you will also go for mindless films because those films increase your brand value

I disagree with Aamir when he says there should be more stars and his take on star system. Shouldn't stars or general actors/actress should be the last thing to consider while doing films, they are important but not important compared to acquiring better,different and more number writers and directors. Now, we have the same group of directors and writers for a long time along with the same actors/actress. Even with new actors/actress coming in, there are few new directors and very few writers. More importance should be on that department.
Maybe he means that there should be more stars, because then it will give directors more options to choose from while casting, instead of today's scenario, where you would take an actor because he/she is more popular at the time, or because they actually have the dates. But you're right, writers, screenplay writers, dialogue writers, and other such "behind-the-scenes" people should be more here. I'm not really sure about Bollywood, but in Tamil cinema, you would have one guy doing the story, screenplay, dialogues, and direction, and mostly those "one man show" directorials end up really badly...
