PK is "inspired" by Amelie. If Hirani thought we don't know French well enough to see through that plagarism, he was wrong. Amelie started the whimsical, fantastical, quirky theme you see in PK. It also has a weird, dreamer. Here Amir is an alien like ET who cannot go home. It borrows from a scene in Bridget Jones Edge of Reason and a scene from Love Actually also. Some great work. Aamir such a faux intellectual actor.

PK is originaly made masterpiece. and it's ATBB only due to aamir's acting, stardom, charisma, etc.
