    The most interesting bus in this footage is the one at 1.32. This is the ex-Middlesbrough Guy Arab H221 (JDC221) one of only two ex-Middlesbrough Guy Arabs to make it in to Cleveland Transit days, the other being GDC317. H221 was the only one of the pair to be painted in Cleveland Transit green and jasmine livery, lasting till around 1975.

    At 0:54 looks like one of the former Ribble Atlanteans

      It certainly was, they didn't last long though.

    The bus where passengers are exiting at 2:48 looks like one of the 1971-73 Fleetlines.

    The one at 01:08 looks like one of the 1970 Atlanteans (SDC-H or SXG-H) going by the side windows.

      @@AilsaStaircase Or could it be one of the 1969 Fleetlines (MXG-G)? I forgot about them. Were they withdrawn around 1982?

    At 2:22 that Fleetline looks like it's going at some speed.

      It's travelling back from Seamer into Middlesbrough.

    Are the ones taken in the interior at around 01:20 on the half cab buses? The seats look as though it is one large seat rather than one on each side

    • @AilsaStaircase
      @AilsaStaircase  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the buses with the long seats upstairs were half-cab Guy Arabs, this one was GDC 317. Middlesbrough needed some buses with these seats (lowbridge) to get under Albert Bridge. They also had half-cabs with normal seating upstairs, which were too high for the M route, which went under Albert Bridge.

      @pak8606 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AilsaStaircase The 1971-73 Fleetlines were Lowbridge. Did they have the same seats upstairs?

    • @AilsaStaircase
      @AilsaStaircase  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pak8606 The 1971-73 Fleetlines were low-height - i.e. they were built to go under Albert Bridge, but they achieved this with a low chassis frame, which enabled them to have normal seating upstairs. Low-height buses were invented in the 1950s, although some operators continued with the old-style lowbridge layout until the last one was built (for Wales) in 1968.

      @@AilsaStaircase I remember Cleveland Transit's double deckers were prefixed "H" or "L". One of the 1973 Fleetlines is preserved with the 500 Group (JDC562L). A number of the 1970 Atlanteans were rebodied in the 1980s but weren't re-registered, presumably because the chassis was the same.

    Those buses with the doors in the middle were death traps - you had to be a fast runner to get off them before the doors closed - my nanna got caught in them once - if they had to get on such a bus - and it as often unavoidable - my auntie would hold the door open so nanna could get off safely - it annoyed the driver and other passengers, though!

    • @nobbynobbynoob
      @nobbynobbynoob 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some modern buses still suffer this issue but it's no big deal anymore because the doors will just stick or bounce back rather than crush you.
