It isn’t the same situation though. Vader was the Jedi’s creation. None of what he had done was Luke’s fault bc he had nothing to do with Vader’s fall. Kylo was luke’s creation and responsibility though. Luke foresaw his turn and knew that the death and destruction Ben would cause would be his fault alone. That’s why he briefly considered killing Ben (but he never would’ve actually done it as he says). And don’t forget he almost kills Vader anyway even after the events described in this video

The reason Luke is such a powerful Jedi, is that he is fueled by empathy and love. It’s that love that allows him to even use some force abilities which would be deemed as exclusively dark by many, but doing them out of love changes the very nature of them. He turns dark to light within himself, his family, and the very galaxy.
Out of universe comparing that dual to the one that Luke had with Vader he would actually realize that he stood no chance because the movies made in the '70s and '80s they moved way too slow

Luke and Obi Wan would have strikingly different vantage points. Kenobi saw all of Anakin’s pettiness, arrogance, ego, and jealousy that led him to the dark side. His decision on Mustafar was correct: Trust in the Force. Luke came into the relationship without fully grasping the flaws of his father, so it was easier for him to see the good.
Luke’s ability to relate to Obi Won in the moment he left Vader to die, but still have pity/sympathy for what his father had become is probably the most important aspect of his capacity to redeem Vader. Knowing that his son still had love for him after everything he had done gave Anakin the impetus he needed to turn on Palpatine before the end.
Luke is his mother's son and believes that their is still good in his father and use the massive amount of compassion and empathy within himself to redeem his father, particularly even more so upon learning how vader became whom he was now, more machine than man.
Man it's stuff like this that makes the sequel trilogy no sense at all especially Luke's attitude towards everything, Luke didn't give up or fall even when Caedus killed mara Jade...Luke still refuses to kill his own nephew who just killed Luke's own wife and aunty of Caedus himself....I couldn't do that.😢 My nephew kills my wife....I fear what I would do to my nephew...Luke's definitely a light of hope forever
This is very touching. True Jedi. Beacon of hope, light. Luke is the light side. He's like Padme. Leia is like Anakin :) Maybe he could be more angry at Obi-Wan. May the Force be with you too. See you in the next video :)

Luke acted how the force would have wanted him to it's not a matter of deserved because when it comes down to it no one deserves anything. I think Luke made the right call but should be a little bit more angry at both men, Obi-wan and even Yoda in a way was just dobging the problem which in the long run only made things worse. And Luke should have pity for his own father but should be more willing to hold him accountable for his own action both before and AFTER Mustafar, for the emperor’s willing pawn or to save Padme does not justify his crimes against the galaxy.
Tbh the way Obi Wan left Amakin there was very strange considering the damage Anakin had caused and what he could (did) cause if left alive. If he waited, made sure he was dead, or saved him then things could have been different but he just walked away.
Yeah it was Obi's greatest failing imo, by not killing Anakin he indirectly killed millions, maybe billions. I don't think Obi would ever fall to the dark side, it's just not in him to embrace it for anything more than a fleeting second. I think it was just an excuse he created because he really didn't want to kill Anakin and deal with the absolute shame and guilt he'd have to endure after. It was already bad enough that he left him for dead.
In the book, he basically has the same thought process as described here "killing him would be merciful, and I have no mercy for him" but he also mentions seeing the Emporer's shuttle and senses him, and says that if he goes down to kill Anakin, he wouldn't have time to escape and save Padme
