If raccoons are use to people they won’t show no fear, yes they have rabies. Every time my family goes camping (in a tent) they always come check out our trash, we’ll try too. The first time this raccoon was eating a box of cereal and I caught him. He looked at me and the hubby had to scare him off . Lmfao
Lol...I do that with the weather too, Kendal. I look for the storms and rain. I frequently go to the SPC website to find out about severe weather also, for some days in advance. 😊👍. For example, I know that today we are in a marginal risk of severe weather where I live and that the main threat will be wind lol 🤣. Yes, I am that lady lol. Lol... y'all with the raccoon. 😊 Just FYI they do sometimes come out and get things done during the day even though they are predominantly nocturnal. I still would keep well clear of it though, just in case, and if you suspect it is sick you should get someone out to see if they can capture it and check. This is from someone who has been attacked by a rabid animal before and had to get the rabies shots. FYI, the shots really are not that bad if you ever do need to get them. They're not given in the stomach anymore, they're given in the arms and they're given by your individual weight. I had to get 6 shots over a period of time for my attack, for example. Long post from me so I am apologizing up front..haha.. The way you are acting around that racoon is HILARIOUS......I am cryiiiing. Girl I live in the inner city and see them all the time, along with opossums, Mice and the occasional deer, we don't even blink at them unless they are right up on us. So some tips from a girl that has grown up with them. Most racoons aren't ravenous but you will get the occasional fiesty one that you want to keep your eyes on. You will "usually" be able to detect rabies by the way they behave. Most kind of look...drunk or in their own world (in later stages) when they have rabies. They also look wet around the face usually (from foaming). Healthy racoons are very curious creatures and mostly are out looking for food to steal. So if the girls have snacks outside and it sees the food, they will go on a mission to get it, so may be stalking you all for that. They are little thieves lol. Most will keep their distance from people. If they don't that may be an very early sign somethings no quite right (unless they have been tamed or used to humans). With that said.... watch your pets! They can tear a dog or cat UP. They can easily kill pets your size. Make sure to keep your food inside or if it has to be outside get something with a good lock on it. You won't believe what they can open up with those little hands of theirs. It's amazing!! They are fascinating creatures.
