    Next video about this, you're going to complain about how bad the handles are and that you have to take everything out to get 1 piece out, and how much better drawers are.

      The second he showed the "future drawer system" that is coming out, I thought..."Yeah, he'll have that after he's tried to use that system a few times." There's a reason mechanics who use tools every day have systems with drawers!!

    • @miquerto
      @miquerto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From Adam Savage: first order retrievability. When there are several steps to get the tool you need... that's annoying. However, for a no rattle vehicle setup, this is very cool.

    • @maxbrap
      @maxbrap 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You need the drawers, I have $2000 worth of this stuff and it's annoying AF to get something from the bottom box. I'm going to build shelving for my van so I don't have to unstack everything to get a tool

    • @domalash
      @domalash 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking the same thing but the other tool box wasn't portable or dividable. If you're working under a car or anywhere away from the vehicle it's nice to bring a group of tools in a small portable box or two boxes. And the top sections are almost like drawers with lids. But I don't like the foam sections in the bottom, that's nutso. That's for big power tools imo. I would rather more 1/4 heights so each foam has it's own case maybe and maybe a 1/2 height if a few power tools can fit in them like a cordless drill and impact wrench with batteries.

The boxes he is showing you now on this video.. there will be three or four different prices for this box somewhere really high some are a great price you can pretty much find all Milwaukee pack out boxes on eBay if you were looking… because I can tell you right now Home Depot Canada does not sell half of what they are telling you in the store… (eBay) is a great place to buy your Milwaukee pack )out if you are looking

    Hmm...pardon me for being blunt, and I love your channel. But.....1. You'll swap that for the drawer system very shortly after it comes out, after you've experienced that system for a bit. 2. You carefully created cut foam places to prevent rattling around, but then just tossed things in the bins on the top two levels. ??? That's going to be a rattle trap unless you at least get some drawer liner rubber, or something to create a soft surface in those bins. It strikes me that you "solved a problem" that didn't really exist, when you could have just added a couple of eye rings and a bungee cord to hold the drawers shut on the old one, and modified some of the foam inserts rather than starting over. In the long run....after having used both, drawers are FAR more convenient, and I think you'll find that out. There's a REASON mechnics used systems with drawers...they're more efficient.

    9 times out of 10 when I try to go cheap on something, I end up replacing it with the more expensive option later. So in the end, I pay far more! It's often cheaper in the long-run to just pay the extra for higher quality and/or greater functionality.

    "Get it, got it, over it..." Man, I can sure relate to that! But, "Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten." Nothing like buying "good enough", only to end up buying the quality item later anyway. Makes the cost even worse! My motto is, do your research, figure out what is the best solution, then shop for price. If you can get a good price on the best solution, that's just icing on the cake. Frequently, that comes with being patient... Which is a virtue for my final cliché 😁

    Probably a little late BUT, check out the Craftsman VersaStack ! Similar to the locking nature of the Milwaukee Packout but Craftsman has single drawers, hinged storage units of varying depths...and less expensive if I remember correctly. AND I have both ! As an electrician I am using the Packout but for mechanics tools in my pickup I have a drawer/storage Craftsman setup...same footprint and heights of the Packout ! I also have a Craftsman drawer/storage setup of traveling snowmobile tools and parts. Check Craftsman VersaStack out before you invest in more Packout just to compare...

  • @kevinhall8949
    @kevinhall8949 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems your system isn't designed for your specific need. 5S'ing drawers (what you're calling Kaizen foam) is for waste elimination. It eliminates time wasted hunting for tools. What it is NOT designed for is what a van-life person really needs: Space utilization. The mantra of Vanlife people (or at least the few that I watch) is better and better space utilization. 5S isn't that. Along those same lines, that Milwaukee system seems to consume a LOT of space to allow for that modularity and "connectability." Again, that's something I wouldn't think you would need in a van, especially when you have to sacrifice that all-important space to get it.
    I'm not saying either 5S or that Milwaukee system are bad, they just seem to be completely at odds with the ultimate goal of van life design.

    (Just kidding around) - I wounder where Milwaukee got such great idea to lock cases together Ingenious....Oh I now remember- "Festool" the German company, they have been doing that for decades. Nice set up. Seeing that you were willing to drop the cash did you happen to look into the Pelican case options?
    Just as a suggestion...if you were to use a slightly more denser version of foam than that of the foam used for you Gopro. You would find it works better than the rigid foam that you used for the box's. Reason being because it has more spring to it. You just trace things out as you did then you just cut inside the line and the foam will then wrap the tool naturally and hold it in place.
    There is also a product out there that has to be used in well ventilated space but what you do is - poor it into the draw then let it set up a bit and then just press the tool down into it and wait for the product to cure thus no cutting and digging out required and you get a nice snug fit.

    Drawers are wayyyy better. I think you may have made a mistake getting allured by the pack out hype

    As soon as you shed a tool, you're going to need it says I the pack rat.

    What app/website do you use to find new MTB trails?

    Hmmm... they have a pack out with drawers that pull out like a tool box

    Can you lock the boxes out to the tray so they cannot be (easily) stolen? I noticed you have a lock on the plywood box above your tool boxes.

    This is a great system for tradesmen who have to carry a lot of tools to and from the job site every day. It's really not good for anything else at the price.

    Jeep people and overlanders are starting to use these as well. I plan on doing something similar for my LJ. Thanks for sharing. Great video. 👍🏼

    Nice set up won’t be able to access the tools very easily when the van doors close though

    I had that exact same sticker way back when. Thank you for doing this video. Gave me ideas to create a mini travel tool box to take with me when I go riding.

    They just came out with a drawer system that would work much better with your hand tools

    Would love a follow up on your experience with the system. I'm about to replace my 5 different tool bags/boxes with a full packout setup.

      It has been pretty great for me. Especially since I take my tools up to my property back and forth. So I can keep everything in the garage nice and tidy, and load it into the car. I ended up taking it out of my van because I didn't need all that stuff!

    Your van is more like a DIY lover rather than a professional tradie.
