And as I watch this episode of you life afloat, it's absolutely bucketing down here on the South Coast of England. The BBC has issued a Yellow Warning of Heavy Rain and Flooding until mid-day tomorrow. So far, it's been a cold and wet July. It's not been this bad in July since 2004, with more to come. With a bit of luck, we MIGHT get a summer this year, but as the Schools are now shutting for the Summer Holidays, we're not holding our breaths. Hey Ho! Russ, in Not so Sunny Hampshire.
Ouch, i guess we all have the rain then! Although, i would choose the hot rain over the cold, even with a bit of a bumpy night! Hopefully the sun shines for you soon Russ 😊
You don't necessarily need a stern anchor to turn into the swell. Tie a line somewhere down the anchor chain, and run it through the water(as opposed to over the deck) to the stern on which ever side u need. Winch it in, and bow will face the swell.
Giday, lovelies great vlog again, but hey what's with leaving little Teulu in need of a dingy doctor, that's not like u 2 at all. How awesome is it to be able to make drinking water from the sea, that's definitely a plus for human ingenuity. Be safe lots luv💜💜😁
Over the last couple of weeks I've had time to watch from the start, wow, what an amazing journey you guys are having. Your zest for life is inspiring and attitude to overcome setbacks (broken engine in the middle of nowhere) is admirable. I'm here for the rest of the journey now. Keep up the great the work.
We have a saying in New Zealand, "she'll be right mate" when things don't turn out the way you want. It's great to see Teulu Tribe has the same attitude and you know the sun will come out again. Chin up team and keep on 'truckin.
Those houses through! They looked like proper tree houses when you were 1st showing them! How fantastic! I think you need to put heads together, ask around, what ever.. and find an Anchorage for sleep.. if there is such a place.. being exhausted is the worst. It's like sleep walking (sailing) through it.. I pray for you both with every video! You have a beautiful style about your videos! I think you could do many ads and we will watch! You are that good! Please don't sacrifice income for us ever! We adore you both!
Look into how to set up a swell bridle instead of a stern anchor. Similar to a snubber, attach a line to the anchor chain with a rolling hitch or spliced loop and clip, let out a couple of boat lengths of line a and secure midship on the side away from the swell. Haul it in until your bow points into the swell. The advantage, unlike a stern anchor, is that it can be adjusted from onboard as the wind changes and it’s as easy as a snubber to retrieve. Nice video, thanks.
If you half set your mizen sail, it will help to stop the side to side roll. It must be tight like a tarp, rather than sail shaped. Older cruisers used to have a flat sail specifically for this. Great videos, thank you 🙃
We wish we could use our mizzen for this but its so damn loud and as we sleep in the cabin beneath the mast, it makes it pretty hard to sleep, but we will give it ago super tight and see if it helps at all, thanks for the suggestion!
But you may be able to cook without your food decorating the floor! It will tend to push your bow into the wind too, although this is not always desirable!! Really love your videos, so professional and well produced, well done 🥰
Threw up twice during this one. 😉 When you said , a rough week, I had no idea. Make sure you always have one of your stickers on hand, you missed a wonderful chance to leave your mark on that sign. I paused the video to look and see if you put one there. I couldn't have stayed in an anchorage that rough. Thanks for toughing it out and getting a video out. Love you. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Haha we weren't kidding with the warning! And you BET we left a TT sticker on that sign Steve! If you follow us on Instagram, theres a little video there showing it. Thanks for being here as usual!
Use a 2/3 leg bridle on your main anchor . Lead lines to bow and port and starboard stern / midships. You can adjust your angle to the swell by changing the lengths of the 2/3 lines! Just saw the other comment re bridles ! oops ! Lots of people looking out for you ! Good travels !
Great vlog guys well done! On camera descriptions on anchor and active sailing in light winds fantastic content! Enjoy the moment as I can only do from a distance. Thx
No need to 'insulate' the wires in the mizzen. When you drop the mast, duct tape a couple or 3 rectangles of cushion foam to the wires, and pull it back into the mast. No more noise. You're welcome
Do you ever think to put up the Mizzen? That will keep the Boat Heading into the Wind when at Anker. I often used it when I was Commercial Fishing. Stay SAFE Guys!
We would but two issues with it: 1. Its really loud and we sleep below it and 2: Theres often not enough wind here for it to do anything annoyingly but thanks for the suggestion!
Flopper stopper? Or an anchor bridal rigged to bring the bow into the swell instead of having it on the beam. It’s simple to rig and easier than a stern anchor to set up.
@@TeuluTribe ah of course. We have had too much wind in the UK this summer force 9 for the Round the Island Race. So a lack of wind didn’t occur to me. 🤪 that leaves a flopper stopper I guess.
Surprisingly, I have always had really great sea legs whenever I've been on a boat. That is even more astonishing if you know that on a bad day, I can't play Fallout or Skyrim for more than 30 minutes without getting woozy. Recently I got my hands on a VR rig with a world feedback device. Amazing experience as it was, I couldn't take it for more than three minutes.
@@TeuluTribe I think it's the lack of matching full body feedback and the quick and hectic bouncing of the camera that does me in. Compared with cameras in video games, even a small boat in a choppy sea moves quite ponderous.

My boat has to wait until the winter… I miss living on anchor like there is no tomorrow. Keep the positive attitude and remember your lucky 😊
Love your channel. I feel your pain while anchoring beam to the swell. Just out of curiosity have you ever tried to bridle your anchor chain into the swell? It may be a better alternative to a stern anchor. Good Luck
We have and LOVE that method but here in CR there isn't a tonne of wind so it all goes a bit floppy and stops working unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion anyway though 😊
5200 will fix the inflatable with a hypalon patch squeezed between two boards covered with cellophane using C clamps for credence 30 years on cruising time you also need Flopper Stoppers and I said before it's all about whether you get seasick or not Mitch
To stop things sliding about wet some towels or tee shirts ring them out until damp put on table tops or counter tops to stop rolling a round in bed jam something under outside ove your mattress
You guys are the Gold standard when it comes to sailing videos, just a thought on the Project Atticus channel circa season 8 (they where in Greece) they tried a Goody Mcgaffer (sorry can not remember what it was called) that was attached to their mast and put in the water it was suppose to minimize the roll when in harbor it is basically a piece of metal with hinges the flexes when the boat rolls minimizing the effect they said it worked ?
It would be boring if everything went perfectly! That rolling reminds me of a night on a mooring buoy in Salcombe years ago, in a southerly gale. Hardly slept a wink !
I have a question, why don't modern sailors use hammocks? Hundreds of years ago sailors used hammocks, and when you have a boat rolling then it just looks like it would make sense to set up the hammock above your bed, so you can sleep stationary whilst everything else in your boat is rolling around side to side.
Good question- easy answer for us! We don't have the 'real estate' on board. Above our bed is angular and pretty tight, and the only other place we could hang a hammock is in the saloon or galley but if we rolled, we would be sure to crash into things- maybe Teulu looks a bit bigger on camera then she really is 😊
First time I went to Costa Rica maybe 30 + years ago a local told me to avoid the “ Green Season “ which I realized was the rainy season BUT another local a Lawyer explained his interpretation of the Green Season was his leather Brief Case had a tendency to turn various shades of green .
Just rewatched your Boat Tour from the early days. Mabey it's time for an update with all the changes you guys did to the Boat in the last two years? Would love to have a side by side comparison of how Teulu changed:) Love your Vids
is it just me or does the rolly's comfort others than just me? When I'm in those big seas and at anchor, it feels like i'm more comfortable than on land. Does anyone else feel like this? When I was a kid, my dad was a trucker, I would sleep like a baby in the truck.
Great video as usual, there is a product, o think they call them witches hats, they can be hung from your spreaders and really do reduce rolling at anchor.
Oh interesting, we have never considered that. As for the hammock, that would be fun! Just limited real estate which doesn't have anything we would slam into 😂
