One of the best layouts for a stand up coaster. The laterals, corkscrew, and vertical loop are great! The main issue though is the constant headbanging.
It reminds me alot of Vortex at Carowinds. I havent ridden it in 15 years amd I've heard that it's very shaky and uncomfortable now. I loved it when i rode it.
Thanks for the awesome vid! My first actual roller coaster ride Vortex. This ride and also top gun were my favorite back then in 04/05 summer days in mountain view under the sun!! Thanks for the memories!! Gotta go back and visit one day..
hahaha i get it. love this ride but i like flight deck more. can u film an updated version cause right now its red not black and not really called top gun.. its called flight deck soo yeah.. thanks.. love your vids to pieces!!
there was no reason to take out Triple Play or the Title Wave they were both removed for unknown reasons both had great safety records and no maintenance issues the Whizzer on the other hand is a different story
+Nathan Lopez interesting! I never got to ride the Whizzer. It's always been this mythical ride to me. I also wish they had kept Stealth for a little while longer!
@@nathanlopez5667 The Tidal Wave had lots of maintenance issues but didn’t put in a new ride, but for Triple Play I have no idea why they took it out… there were speculations that a new ride would go in it’s old spot, but, that never happened I agree, I don’t understand why they removed Triple Play… I truly wish that WE could take over Great America! ;)
This coaster is just straight up painful. Rode it once, never doing that again, lol. I screamed in pain. That thing in between your crotch, ouch. The rattling that is going on giving you a headache, ouch. Leg pains, ouch. And the fact that during the ride my head got whiplashed to one side and I banged my ear on the head thingy. That was really painful. xD
Rumor - (6/16/15) According to a news clip sent to me by a reader, Cedar Fair apparently confirmed to one media source their plans to convert Vortex at California’s Great America into a Floorless coaster. -Screamscape www.screamscape.com/html/california-s_great_america.htm
The only people's who complian about the seat, are people who ignore the ride operators instructions and are bouncing up and down when they lock the seat. Then get stranded in a high position 😂
I've ridden this thing a ton of times. It kind of lost its magic for me after they let me ride it eight times in a row, they just kept pushing the car straight through because technically the ride was closed to new people so I got to ride it a ton. It is still an amazing coaster and I was on it last Sunday.
It's not nearly as good as Riddler's Revenge, but stand ups are different so I bump up the fun factor a little. I have a tendency to lean forward and smack my ears in the harness, though.
i rode it 2 weeks ago, the ride is smooth but the harnesses are awful. my cheeks were still sore from banging the plastic 2 days later. there's also one weird little jerk of a maneuver that seems to only be there to tweak your back and hit your face.
Trust me, it is NOT smooth. The only reason it looks smooth is because it's mounted to the front of the train. When you actually ride it, it rattles like crazy and bangs your head.
You pretty much can't move your legs for a minute or two after riding this, actually xD But the standing up thing is actually very fun. Also, this coaster has so many loops you can't tell what's up and down while you're on it.
fun quick ride, not the smoothest one though, first time i went on it, the little side "cushions" on either side of your head banged up my ears lol. left them nice and red and sore. just gotta get a good position before they lock you in and to keep your head from bobbing side to side. otherwise its really fun, and when nobody is there they let you ride it multiple times because its so short.
The end is like in RCT3 when you forget to bring the track back to the station as you finish it so you end up having a bunch of straight track leading back to the station
I got front row! It was awesome!! Very fast moving coaster which is just as spectacular as the bigger drop coasters! I think its my favorite of all time. Nothing like STANDING front car.
This is almost similar to the one in Cedar Fair CAROWINDS in Charlotte, North Carolina. Except it is brick red in color and you immediately go up the climb instead of like in this ride you coast a bit and then climb. Also the queue at CAROWINDS is covered and has stairs leading to coaster.
B&M builds to what the park wants, and what their budget is. This is arguably the smallest "major B&M" in the world, so maybe it's all the park could afford at the time. In that case, the arguement would be they should have waited a year or two to build something a little bigger.
Actually, there was once three other rides surrounding the coaster when it was built. Those rides are not here today, but the ride is short because there wasn't much room.
The reason why it's really short is because when it was built Great America still had Triple Play and Tidal Wave/Greezed Lightning. So they had to work with a small area to build it.
yeah that's what I heard too sucks this park really needs to get with the program they should take notes from Six Flags Great America it's going to be the 40th anniversary with nothing new
Vortex is a painful stand-up. I screamed not out of fear but out of pain. To me, this early stand-up is a 1900 ft long torture track through ear-bang hell. If I ride it again, it will be with ear protection and plenty of aspirin. Ouch, ouch, OUCH...
People there is an art to ridin every roller coaster you just have to figure the best way,and the best seat.......You people are a bunch of cry baby sissies LOL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I love# vortex at carowinds, I love the flying coasters too because you feel serious G's you just have to figure them out!!!!!like B&M's wing coasters the front left is best just a TIP

Oh sorry if it's Me Again asking this question but like I was wondering if also this Ride in Great America Vortex has, you what I mentioned, if this Ride has a Camera, Again, I think in the middle of the Ride, and at the end, you could see your self, while you were on the Ride?
I always wonder Robb never says anything on the coasters here in the US like he does on the coasters in Asia. I thought that maybe there was someone else who does the recording on the rides, like he has a team or something. The Canyon Blaster and El Loco in Las Vegas, he doesn't say anything, the same thing goes for the coasters videos at Lagoon Theme Park in Utah.

+loki352 its true this is the last day to ride it as vortex it is going to be called Patriot next year for the March 2017 opening season and be blue and white color scheme

I went on this on a school band trip. We had trouble finding the entrance. This thing is seriously disorienting.
Theres something called a map
Adrian Gonzalez We used the map to pinpoint its general location.
Then how didnt you get there
There are numbers placed on the enterance
lol we were going to go here for a band trip but covid happened
For beeing so short this stand-up has a cool layout !

The trick to having the most comfort on this ride is putting your head all the way back

When I rode this back in the late 90's I had no idea at the time that a B&M coaster could be a head-banger.
that makes me dizzy in my Head :)
Way too short. I know they don't have a lot of room, but I still feel like they could have put more track in.

its supposed to be turned into a floorless coaster next year for its 25th anniversary and it's supposed to be extended with new theming
What does the extended part mean
longer with new elements inversions I hope that is true there's plenty of space for it
Six Flags Great America utilizes its space better 12 roller coasters could fit in this park comfortably

How are you able to put a video out each day? Do you go on a bunch in one day and release your videos one at a time?
How big is the drop and are they major enough to make your stomach feel like butterflies in it?
This is the only standup I ever went on
Carowinds has a ride just like this with the same name different layout of the track though! Not gonna ride it anytime soon!

I MISS BEING A KID.
Same layout as the Vortex at Carowinds!
Hey, this is the second roller coaster that B&M ever built. I know it can give you a headache, but its a classic.
It's unique for a B&M because it actually is bumpy...
You know, with the new Standup to Floorless conversions happening, it makes you think if B&M will convert all of their Standups to Floorless coasters.
I'm happy to have been on this ride before they changed it to Patriot.
This one looks like the layout might be a little better than the one at Carowinds...? It just seems like there are more transitions.
Stand Up Twister Coaster 1 looks too intense for me.
FUN! I ♥ stand-up coasters! I don't know why they're doing away with them.
Except Six Flags, apparently.
This is just like patriot but patriot is more slower
I wish they made it longer, that was always the problem with this ride and why no one ever raved about it.
sad that they replaced this one with the patriot. it's almost the exact same thing, though. the vortex was my first looped rollercoaster.

It feels amazing!!! Like flying
QUESTION does anyone get airtime going into the break run? how strong is it?

crazydud619dx I know why, it is because the rollercoasters of B&M (especially suspended coasters) have to have room for it to drop, If it were straight, the trains will either break apart, or crush us
