One of the things I realized I had stopped doing in terms of using my imagination was coming up with names for cool areas and landmarks. Like in my first worlds, my mine would be called "Bedrock Mineshaft" and the nearby forest biome was called the "Lumberwood Forest." I only realized about a year and a half ago that I had stopped doing that for some reason, so I started doing it again. Now the landmarks and areas are more personal and I feel a lot more attachment to my worlds.
Reminds me of Keystone Keep, A castle I built with my friend. It's the highest artificial structure in the world, and protects the entrance to our mountain base.
As someone who lives for the grind, Minecraft was just a match made in heaven for me. I could literally go caving for like 12 hours and be just fine with it. Biggest part that stumped me was actually making my own builds. I dont mind grinding for the materials, but I always need inspiration for the builds. I enjoy the journey much more than the destination. I think the way you play Minecraft reflects a lot of who you are in life.
That's why I really want to find a probably nonexisting server where everyone's a worldbuilder, everyone's, working together to expand the world, make proper economics and production, fight in organized way (no fancy pvp arena, just pure "medieval warfare" for the ones who wants to protect their land and their homes (yeah i mean spawnpoints mostly)), and not run as far away from people as you can (bc everything will be destroyed, stolen, and you'll be mugged), but cluster, make even small but communities with specialisations... You know, I'm an artist. Most of my friends are those rare people who can't imagine their lives without bright imagination, without creation and fun, and most of players on servers are exact opposite of that. They want to become stronger, beat the game and everyone they show upon, destroy "hostile" creations and make everyone be afraid of them.. while I can't even leave a hole in the ground uncovered bc or looks bad.
@@KageToHikari_CG My friend and I usually spitball base ideas then work together to make it. In my solo worlds, I never rush to the dragon fight. I tend to have a full base with a lot of terraforming and several farm builds done before then. I go into the dragon fight with fully enchanted diamond gear. Most people who complain about there being nothing to do miss the point and grind for the dragon immediately. Even though I need inspiration, I will have a base idea in mind. Since my ideas arent many, I try to just pour a lot of time into one world. Ive only had 2 solo worlds that I put a lot of time into. I usually take big breaks and wait for a few major updates to release
The greatest story is that of infinite existence. Simply because there are no boundaries to it, aside from imagination. Minecraft is the greatest story.
The one thing I always wanted to do was to get like a dozen people on a world, and have each person scatter across the world build their own town in their own unique style, and after a week, everyone works together to build roads and railways to connect the towns together to see what each person has created. Not really as a competition, but to see what each person can do in a given timeframe, and what they prioritize. Doesn't matter if there's hyper efficient farms, ornate castles, or piercing skyscrapers. Everything has a meaning and shows the creativity of the person making it.
This video is like a metaphor for life. "It was never meant to be beaten, its a sandbox" resonates with me in the real world. So many people trying to "win" life and get all these stats, instead of being a kid and marveling at the world around us, instead of exploring and discovering new things. We lose sight of what fun we can have and become depressed because of it.
Yes!!! I'll be honest, Minecraft and the people that create stories within it have given me that same worldview as I've grown. It's been- oh gosh, 5 years now? Maybe even more, now that I think about it. But however long it's been, it's become more than a game, more than roleplays, more than just TH-camrs. It's become a perfect looking glass to see the world in all its beauty, from the tiny flowers to the people that care for me. Minecraft's sandbox style just...fits so well.
Fun fact : I played Minecraft on my ps3 for 6 years and never beaten the ender dragon, I was just like chilling by creating some stuff like a city that I want to update every year (even if I don't play on ps3 so much ) and then just launching some fireworks... And I don't have it on my PS4 , it costs too much lol
I know its ameme but *we live in a society* that wants you to fall in line and be just another cog in the machine that withers away like the rest because if you show individualism others might do the same and the machine will crumble away as the people become what they truly are, people

Fun fact. Some SMP's intentionally delay that moment of killing of the ender dragon because, Minecraft without elytras and shulkers and Minecraft with elytras and shulkers are obsolutely different games.

honestly, one of the most beautiful videos. There is no "winning" Minecraft, and that's just the truth. In my personal opinion its the people you play with that makes it fun. its the mindless adventures, burning buildings, and killing each other that adds a joy like no other. roleplaying is fantastic, and even better with friends! bust as said in the video, it all boils down to imagination, and how far your willing to take it

@@computethis1533I'm surprised a few mentioned about Terralith, it has so much potential and it's so good, it gives a new atmosphere. The fact that it managed to not add any new blocks amazes me. Also, I'd recommend Tectonic mod 'cause it's compatible with Terralith if you want smooth terrain generation. And yes, please do add mods as well. The fun is limitless and gives Terraria-like feel. Though, not too much mods otherwise it'll lag hellalot.

But I assume that’s because it’s on newer versions, and most people mod the game with 1.12-1.16, and Terralith is only on 1.18 and up, since most people’s first mod packs will be on 1.12-1.16, they’ll only know about Biomes O’ Plenty, and Oh The Biomes You’ll Go, since most wouldn’t look for something new, when they know the one they already have works well.
When the game first came out, my family had just moved to a new house in the middle of nowhere. My dad, a computer nerd, was interested in the possibilities of this game, so much so that he bought 4 copies, 1 for all of us so we could sit down and experience the magic of a lan party. Those are some of my best memories.
One of the things I like to do is a "progression run". Take curing villagers: I know how to do it, but I refrain from doing it until I come across my first Gapple (oh, we can have golden apples), and then still won't cure villagers until I come across an igloo with a basement SHOWING me how to cure villagers. The wiki is off limits.
I'm in my 50's and I still play Minecraft almost daily. Survival mode and Hardcore are such a thrill still. I use creative mode to explore ideas and then go build them in my survival worlds. The challenge is exciting and frustrating but the satisfaction of completing a goal is totally worth it.
Imo, this is the best "current state of Minecraft" video out there, by far. Nobody talks about this! All the questions about the game being too easy or Mojang being lazy or whatever just fall away into irrelevance when you look at it from this perspective.
Dude this has like lifted a weight off my shoulders I didn't know was there. It has been so long since I thought about making something as silly as a McDonald's in Minecraft like I used to as a kid. It makes me want to play the game like I used to. Thanks for this, I really needed to hear it.
You are bang on about Minecraft being most enjoyable when you use your imagination. I've fallen in love with the game for that very reason: In my private server, my character is an immortal sorcerer from a Nether-like dimension that isn't connected to the MC dimensions. He somehow got isekaied into the MC Tri-dimensional area due to dimensional tectonic plate shift (the dimensional version of an earthquake) along with the single outpost he was resting in at the time (He commanded a vast magical empire in his home dimension). However, the outpost is doing the dimensional version of "rendering" in that things that were there in the home dimension are slowly trickling in one after the other along various points in the timeline (my headcanon reason for why he doesn't have every single item and tool in the game already from start) including a Nether Portal in the basement (which used to be a portal that let him instantly travel between outposts back home). He's struggling to master animal husbandry, farming, combat, mining, and forging without his magic (since MC doesn't have spells and such, not without mods anyhow). It's a journey for him. He's found that he adores wolves/dogs. To the point where he keeps every bone he finds or gets for taming purposes instead of bone meal and tames every wolf he can find. He has an army of dogs at his command at this point. He's also struggling to come to grips with the existence of peaceful mobs like villagers, or the fact that not everything in the world wants to or has evolved to kill him and everything else, which is how it is back where he's from. He's also slowly coming to grips with the fact that he may not be evil at heart, but was just born and lived countless thousands of years in a world where being evil was a requirement to survive. All of that story and RP came from one skin I bought on the marketplace. One. Single. Skin. That's all it took to inspire me to build a mage tower completely out of Crying Obsidian off the coast right at World Spawn, and slowly add various things to it (like new floors or the Nether Portal) in Creative as I played. One little skin I bought for 300 coins has given me almost one hundred hours of fun in the past few weeks. I can't wait to see what else will inspire me.
Something i’ll admit is i’ve never ONCE between the Ender Dragon by myself in survival. I’ve always been happy building this amazing worlds with town names and books with lore in it etc. I love loading into a new world and exploring until i see something that sparks an idea and i just build. Why i love playing to this day

I think as we've gotten older, a lot of us have gotten out of touch with what Minecraft was meant to be. We focus on a "goal" we're supposed to complete, but that was never what the game was supposed to be about. Minecraft is about the journey, not the destination. I have been so caught up in my frustration with some of Mojang's decisions lately that I forgot what made Minecraft fun in the first place. I sometimes get it in my head that I need to play the older versions to get the same feeling. But what you're saying is the missing piece. It doesn't matter what version I play, it's how I play it. Everything used to be new and unexplored, no real guides. Now it's "gotta make sure I remember to build that automated poop farm so I have my shite" There was a charm to slowing down, breaking everything down by block, placing it back up as a journey, rather than as a goal
I think this is the kind of player Mojang was trying to cater to with 1.20, which is why it ended up being a miss with so many people since people seem to focus on "beating" the game so much. So many features of the update were about using your imagination, like the archeology structures where you imagine who used to live there, or the pottery sherds where you use environmental storytelling, same with the armor trims. I think a lot of people missed the point with that update.

The problem is that as people grow older, an imagination gets hard to keep as we're trained in every day life to be more and more logical, and unless you grew up in a situation where you were allowed to express creativity in a creative way instead of a destructive way. You probably have enough money to play something else that imagination has no part in... Therefore it's rare to see good imaginative minecraft youtubers who catch lots of people's attentions. You find it easier to play with young people as an adult because you get the resources and allow the kid to build their view. And in doing so (you spoil that kid) you give yourself a way to feel nostalgic and have those memories and feelings you used to have when playing the game. Honestly I remember playing the game on Mobile when it first released on mobile. I met one of my best online friends on a Blockman app which was basically minecraft multiplayer for mobile. People always talk about the Minecraft history for Java, but nobody ever talks about the mobile experience.
In one of my worlds recently, I got really into fishing. I was sitting there like, "Why doesn't anybody enjoy fishing in this game?". It's genuinely so fun and calming. And I got a really good fishing rod and a lot of other loot. I get so caught up in how "bad" I am at the game--I've never beaten it, and I have a hard time in The Nether. But sometimes it's better to just sit and fish.
This is true. Farming and Fishing have been the calmest thing to do for me. I kinda wish that me and my friends would hop on a server one day and just have fun.
I remember several years ago in a server with all my friends, for whatever reason we did not have access to mending books. It was a problem bc obviously mending is just so amazing to have. Anyway, around that time I had read on the wiki about fishing and all the loot you could get for it, including enchanted books. I was ecstatic bc I thought "finally, we have a way to get mending books!" So, I got the best fishing rod I could, and just started fishing. It was basically all I did whenever I played, and we played a lot. I would sit there for hours just pressing the right mouse button and talking to my friends through discord, and I loved it. Of course the chances of getting even an enchanted book were low, and one that had mending was close to zero, but I didn't care. I ended up getting so many enchanted fishing rods that I just combined them all to get the best one I possible could, with all the fishing enchantments, and even mending so that it would never break. After weeks of doing it I had dozens upon dozens of enchanted books, fishing rods, bows, armour, etc, and a whole load of everything else, and I actually ended up getting one book with mending. I was so happy, and I just kept fishing.
Man, I've been struggling with this, not just in Minecraft, but in just about every game I play. I think I've started to get too caught up on doing things the "best" way, progressing "the fastest," worrying about completion - and it's ruined gaming for me a lot. My best experiences have not been when I'm min-maxing things or looking up a million things on the wiki - it's been when I've just allowed myself to have fun without worrying about if I'm best utilizing my time and doing things the correct way. Once I start building auto farms in Minecraft or massive villager trading halls, the game just dies for me. I've been trying to get back into playing games more like I did as a kid, but it's not easy
I think social media gaming and speed running are what has created that mindset within our culture. There’s millions of hardcore TH-camrs whose entire video idea is based around the goal itself being impressive somehow, and speed running is a very specific way of playing the game that has an objective measurement of performance and a ton of different strategies and techniques associated with it meant for playing efficiently. They are why people feel the need to accomplish goals that are above their skill level or just really grindy, rather than engage with the game in the way they find most fun.
I have a set of rules for myself when it comes to Minecraft in particular: No automatic farms No cruelty to the life in the world No outright destruction of the world(like digging out massive chunks down to bedrock) No bug/glitch abuse And lastly, take my time with it. Build something every now and then. Terraform a bit. Even focusing on going after the Ender Dragon, the Elytra, that prot 4 netherite, and shulker boxes, it makes the game more *fun*. One example of these rules being applied is improving a village rather than locking the villagers away in 1x1x2 boxes. It makes the villager breeding more annoying, but making sure the houses had all the beds required, I had doubled the villager population in one fell swoop. One of the first things I do in a village is clean up the paths.

Or have you also given yourself the chance to automate the hell out of anything and everything, slaughter animals and villagers with gusto, gouge out the land with cruelty, abuse glitches like there is no tomorrow and speedrun like Cthulhu is hot on your tail? I mean, that's kinda the point of the video. Try it all.
Its so hard when it feel like you have no imagination left. Everytime i get on the game, i get exhausted with having to think of a new unique idea for a build. I so miss this game, but it seems like all my mind ever craves anymore is progression. And that unfortunately is the same with every playthrough.
its about mindset, idk but i think progression and creativity come from different parts. creativity comes from a part of the brain that doesn't want to go anywhere and progression needs something you don't have
A trick that's working for me right now is playing in Floating Worlds. I had this simple idea of using RfTools Dimensions to "escape it" but even finding a damn bunch of clay and sand is near impossible. It's making travelling and building roads to find my way back actually interesting and fun! The worst thing you can do is set yourself "standard" objectives like build shelter and stock up on food, those will give you a mindset related to safety and you could be safe forever by being in a hole in the ground with water and carrots.

Having to? You donť have to. In Minecraft you can do everything, if you can't come up with build idea, just go mining or exploring the world. And if you want to build something that much, explore the world or watch youtube videos and get inspiration. Just as I said, Minecraf isn't about having to, it's about wanting to.
This is an extremely nice video! I started my Minecraft Journey by overhearing someone talking about this game, then decided to try it out... In April of 2021, I downloaded Minecraft Trial and experienced the game for the first time in my life... And I spent my 1st 2 months playing Minecraft Trial on my old 2009 PC... Played in 20fps and thought "Wow!"... Digging down and Building Dirt houses and misunderstanding "creeper" as some poisonous plant that would kill me... (My sound was off and the creeper always exploded behind me) I learnt Minecraft in under a month and would literally spend hours playing it... In June, I discovered "TLauncher" and downloaded it to play cracked Minecraft... As time goes by, Building Houses in creative mode, Playing on cracked servers with my friends... Making new friends, playing Bedwars and Skywars, trying out different maps, and a load of fun!!! Ah! What Memories! After spending a long time playing cracked, I made a decision to ask my parents to buy me Minecraft, I used my pocket money in order to purchase this game... And this is, and will be my best purchase ever... Now, as a "Pro" Minecraft Player, I still look back into the old days and wonder about the OG Minecraft... I sometimes quit the latest version and jump back to the Betas, And it feels great... Also the Minecraft track BY C418. Has to be the best soundtrack I ever heard... Every night... I listen to these and... It makes me feel good! Thank You for taking the time to read this... And... Enjoy Minecraft! I still remember my old 2009 PC which got me 20fps in Minecraft! (Sadly I had to sell it because I got a new laptop and there was a lack of space to keep the system)
This honestly made me feel so much better about how I've done stuff like "never beating the ender dragon legitimately" or "chickening out from the nether because ghasts are scary." Maybe I should just return to when I was younger, when I would build 256 block tall diving boards into a tiny pool on flat worlds. That was fun, it was dumb, but fun. Thank you : )

Yeah, anything I feel you can easily grind out with time, I just switch to creative and knock it out quickly. Screw digging out, crafting and transporting 100 stacks of cobblestone wall/stairs, im just gonna build the damn bridge I want. Because cobblestone is a renewable resource, your time is not.
This just brought a tear to my eye... I started a realm about a month ago because I missed playing Minecraft with friends. We were having fun, dying to creepers and exploring the nether together like we used to. Now most of them don't play anymore out of boredom and the ones that do want to kill the dragon so they can move on to other games.Thank you for such a heartfelt message. Yes. Exactly. My friends and I in college tried making a server multiple times. It was always really fun the first few days. But everyone (except me) always quit in like two weeks cause they got bored. It's fine tho, I love playing singleplayer anyways.

Me and my family always sort of take long breaks from minecraft (we seem to cycle games so, it's not JUST minecraft) but lately I've come back to our realm and I've been binge gaming it 😂 I'm updating our home base and then I'm gonna go re build my castle and finish my village I'm making in the canyon below my village 🎉
I like this video. A core memory was going to my friend’s house, building a “gladiator arena” on their super-flat world, and fighting each other over and over again. They were the only ones who owned Minecraft at the time, and getting to play it was so much fun. Now we live several states away, and work too much to have those sessions anymore. But I will cherish those moments.

and its not like rpg isnt fun bro. the main issue is vanilla minecraft is just not good enough, it dont got enough stuff it doesnt have enough immersion in it like modpacks do. its still sandbox at the core, but i think more items, features, and everything will add overall much more things you could do in minecraft out of pure imagination alone. understand this
I think that’s why the 100/1000 day videos have blown up. I love watching people explore their worlds and build it out. I have a hard time sticking to things but with this game it always feels like I can come back no matter how long has passed
It might be that many do it on Hardcore so it means something surviving 100 days. You're not forced to explore the world for 100 days, if you get into a building project that time will fly past and you never really have to do much.

@@doodlebro. I think it has a lot to do with screen addiction, and how we are less accustomed to patience and now innately desire instant gratification. The first time for anything will never be easy, or turn out the way we expect. But the next time, it's a little better. Sleep on it, take a break from screens, read a book, doze off. Try again. Now you've had rest, there is a possibility you're closer to meeting expectations, or you discover an alternative to what you desired that changes everything.
As someone who has lost ALL interest in playing Minecraft after playing it for 9 years, somehow, someway, you've convinced me to play it again. I really appreciate the message in the video. Genuinely, I think that is what I was missing.

What even give You idea to "have to beat" the sandbox game in the first place? I mean of all the things in the community "beating Minecraft" always seems to as the most blatantly stupid idea without any real basis. And contradictory to it's genre.
As long as you're having fun, you should play as you want. Only thing beating the Ender Dragon does for you is access to the End islands and a decorative egg. On my private server we had people who had never even been to the End, let alone beat the dragon before.
I'm an extremely goal-oriented person when it comes to videogames, so trying to get all the achievements on a survival world or maximizing the drops out of a farm was always fun to me. But the things I was always the most proud of and had the most fun with were the random structures I designed and built myself, even though I'm generally not a very creative person. Even with the farms I built, it was the extra time I put into making it look cool that made me proud of it.
I was creative at first in minecraft doing random stuff, but as i got older, I got hooked on the ftb modpacks like skyfactory3 and other goal type experiences.
I think it's natural to also feel artistically inspired when building something that also serves a function. Like, how can I build an enderman farm that also looks cool? A sugarcane farm that also looks pleasingly industrial aesthetic-wise? When I play (usually with modpacks), what keeps me inspired is thinking about what practical purpose a new building could serve. Like, a dedicated biofuel refinery housed in it's own dedicated building, a dedicated smelting facility, a dedicated warehouse, a dedicated blue ice factory etc. My greatest joy comes from seeing an entire town emerging, made up of individual buildings that all serve a clear and identifiable purpose, and hopefully I also manage to make them look nice. It's not very efficient to design things this way if you want to progress through the modpack, but I still feel there's a rational reason for every building to exist beside pure aesthetics. In a similar vein, I'm one of those (really, quite many) people who love constructing buildings for villagers. A smithy for the smith, a tannery for the tanner etc. Not because it's actually useful (I never trade anything), but just knowing that a villager of that profession will inhabit that place and work there is gratification enough for me. On the other hand, I rarely feel motivated to build things that don't correspond to an at least implied in-game purpose. So I would likely never build a biofuel refinery if there was no biofuel in the modpack. I build plenty of harbors where I can neatly park boats, but rarely build any ships. In my worldview, the distinction between creative and functional goal-specific builds is very blurry. One can lean more to one side or the other, but they're very much connected. Even when I am in the mood to do purely creative builds, it's always with some sort of implied purpose. The villagers don't really need a trading post down by the river, but one could reasonably pretend that they would. I think artistic people distinguish themselves by being quite good at coming up with these pretended purposes to serve as inspiration when there's technically no practical incentive.
A huge piece of advice: don’t do things which are “trendy” if you don’t enjoy them. Play Minecraft how YOU want to. For example I’m currently going to be starting a 1.6.4 mod pack series because it reminds me of good old days, when I really wanted to play those mods but my laptop was too terrible, so now I can fully experience it, of course with friends

I loved Minecraft pre caves update, now it seems I can’t dig a mine without running into a humongous cave system….which I do not want. I liked the small caves. 🤷🏻♀️
This reminded me of that feeling that I had when I first played the game: that unadulterated child-like wonder, freedom, and creativity. Needless to say, I got a bit emotional. Since then, there's been lots of features added that encourage this type of linear play where you just want to "finish" the game. There will always be people who enjoy building and doing other things, but the core audience has definitely changed
That's true. I think the YT MC community have driven that mindset. Like, I LOVE 100 days vida but they definitely promote a sort of "goal" driven mindset I think. But when I play, I just build and enjoy. Though, I sometimes get bored with that. I do like having objectives to chase whenever I want to.
it's a kinda stupid thing to argue about since Minecraft lets you *both* beat it (by killing the female Ender Dragon named Jean) and build to your heart's content before, during, AND afterwards. beating the game just takes you back to your savepoint
Having someone share such a clean perspective on what the game was always intended to be is so refreshing. I'd always play in bursts, always trying to advance as much as I could, always shameful about how bland and rushed pats of my base were. I was envious of people who could build and actually look at their world and feel proud. Now, as I start a new playthrough and build a wizards tower out of woods and deepslate, I feel like a kid again; finally enjoying the serenity and peace of the blocky world around me. Thanks Dude, for reminding us about the joys of Minecraft at its core.
This and some other yt videos have really helped me rediscover my love for the game two and avoid the ≈two week or 1 month Minecraft phase. Must have been part of why people tapered off in 2016, in addition to the natural growing out of it naturally from being a kid. But then going back it later and loving it. I had that experience with Doctor Who recently, which i adored in middle school. Felt like an old friend. I’ve gotten incrementally better at building now just from experimenting and not worrying about the Nether or End or Elytra. I can compare it to an even longer version of me playing Breath of the Wild, where it took me I think at least 2 years to beat the main quest. But the main quest isn’t the point of that game; like Minecraft it’s to explore and experiment (just in BOTW’s case primarily with combat and puzzles instead of building). To have fun!!!
I started playing minecraft in 2011, and the way you describe your experience with the game really reminds of when I first started playing it. the idea of "hiding from someone trying to kill you" isnt weird, its just making your own fun. and minecraft is perfect for that sort of fun. this video is a good reminder that games like these are about finding your own fun, whatever it is.
It's been 10 years since I last played Minecraft. Currently I'm playing it to experience all the new stuff they added. So far the Warden and Deep Dark are my favorites.
As a person who has been playing regularly for about 12 years now, effectively having the game raise me, I cheer you on. And I'm sure everyoneelse does too.
My suggestion: Take progression slowly. Intentionally limit what gear you can get or what dimensions you can go to for some amount of days, or until you complete a specific goal. Me and some friends have created a world where we did just that, and it's been pretty fun so far.
I like that idea, but I'd rather have a mod that does that. And now that I'm typing that I realize that I'm a semester through my CS course and can actually just try and make that for real.

This video is like a breath of fresh air compared to everything else that's going on in the world. Hope I find that childish wonder I had when I first played Minecraft back in 2012. 5 year old me was filled with the feeling of accomplishment after completing my first "house" in creative mode. It was a 3 block thick by 12 blocks long and 11 blocks tall and all made out of gold, a door off center by the left, a bed, torches filling every single possible block on the inside. I remember spawning a ghast inside and since it was so cramped in there, it started suffocating and that scared me so much that I never went back to that world. Too bad my grandma sold her router for some reason (which means I couldn't connect to Minecraft). She sold that computer a few months ago. First computer I ever touched, then again it was a Windows Vista but I didn't care about that. I just cared that I could play Minecraft on it.
My first survival house had the exact same dimensions but was made out of oak planks. I built it on the old in-browser version and it ended up looking like a cereal box with windows. I lost it when trying to burn some nearby trees to make room and ended up catching the house on fire.

omg this video unlocked old Minecraft memories of when i used to play on creative plot servers all the time... i'd get a whole bunch of random people who were on the server at the time to come build on my plot with me and we'd build something that we considered super ambitious at the time. i distinctly remember one where we were trying to collectively build a city on a massive plot and it was probably one of the most fun times i've ever had in that game. most of us were building a hospital and a ridiculously tall and skinny hotel for a long time, and some other people were building the streets out for future building placements. one guy kept building subways (the restaurant not a subway train lol) and at some point that same guy decided to rebrand them all to "Zombway" and thus the nonexistant citizens of our city were now zombies lmaooo. god, that was so fun
I’ve played Minecraft since the start. 7th grade til now. I’m 25 and graduated. I proudly and gladly still play. The game brings tears to my eyes. That’s how beautiful it still is to me. You’re totally right. We play for completion and get bored because of that. I’ve been trying to find the reason as to why I’m bored and I get burnt out of Minecraft for a year or more here and there. We play to have fun and use our imagination. And when I was a kid and I started Minecraft all I could use was my imagination because I didn’t know how to do anything the possibilities were limitless and the sense of wonder the game gave me was insane. Now I get all the best enchants and beat the ender dragon as well as get the best armor and tools and I feel empty. This is the exact reason I’m almost afraid of beating the ender dragon because I know what comes after. That emptiness. The empty feeling. I’m waiting for mojang to update the end with more biomes so my imagination and wonder can soar freely again. So I can explore new worlds. This is exactly why I should get a PC and play modded. I never have. But I need to.
almost the same as me, except i'm never getting bored with minecraft i've been playing the same world for 9 years still lots of things to do! what comes after enderdragon? are you kidding? You go for elytra of course! then you make some shulker boxes, then you go home and enchant that elytra. and then!!!! You go back yo your usual business, building and exploring. You can finally find those cursed blocks that you wanted to use cause now you have elytra. You can also rearrange everything cause you don't need stairs anymore.

I also think it's absolutely fine to have keep inventory on and it's not fake minecraft or cheating. Sometimes you just want to go exploring without the stress of losing everything when you die
Well play the game however you want to, but leaving it off can lead to some intense moments which could make the gameplay more interesting (but that's just my opinion)
@@voytec448 So real! I think it's fine to keep it on but at the same time it kills any actual danger, getting chased by the warden wouldn't be nearly as scary and exciting if dying meant nothing. It's the fact that you can have the best gear in the game and still get 2-Tapped by him and losing everything that makes it so fun to go there, the screams that come out of my friends and i while raiding the ancient cities are worth keeping inventory off alone!
@@akithefullThis is why I'm glad it's an option to keep it on or off. Personally the danger is not what appeals to me. I just like building, exploring and gathering resources. Combat and falling stupidly into lava isn't what I'm in it for, and creative feels a little empty to me because now, my challenge is just to get the stuff I need to actually build things.
i personally do enjoy the grinding and collection aspect of the game most, but building and creativity absolutely goes a long way. just building things to build things and seeing your imagination become a virtual reality is very neat
I remember back in 2012, playing Minecraft on my XBOX 360, having the time of my life with my friends or forcing my parents to grab another controller and play split-screen on a random creative world, using the world settings to set them to survival to just mess with them or try different ways to kill them in the game. It was way simpler back then. I never worried about beating the game and rarely played survival, I just had fun doing whatever. I found a modpack for Java that brings back that legacy 4JStudios XBOX 360 Minecraft feeling. It's made me want to play minecraft again, in survival, and just have fun doing whatever, not caring about the quality of my builds, not worrying about going too quick and getting the best things right away, but instead going at my own pace and enjoying the game again. DanTDM started a series, too, where he just started a world to enjoy the game and take it slow and I'm following in his footsteps. I need creativity again to enjoy the game and Legacy4J (the mod I mentioned, Re-Console being the modpack) is just what I needed, as well as this video. I'm about to go to sleep after this comment is sent, but I'm going to start that new world when I wake up to enjoy the game like I used to.
Whenever I play Minecraft, I usually do something related to geopolitics. It's always a fun experience to join an Earth server or something similar just to build a nation from the ground up and engage in diplomacy with other players. The main problem is that nowadays you never really get to enjoy any genuine geopolitics. When I try doing things with any sense of formality, people just look at me funny and think that I'm taking everything too seriously. Most of the people I see in these kinds of servers are always obsessed with grinding for netherite or building massive farms that will make everything they need for them. More often than not, I look at the dynmap and I see full netherite players with little more than a row of chests and furnaces that they call home. Meanwhile I spend my time vibing, building up my town day by day, and doing everything (ranging from farming to fishing) manually. I never really strive to make things like villager halls or mob grinders, and I often find it more fun to enable mob spawns in the towns I make so I can hold off a horde of zombies at my front door every night. If I ever do get villagers, my first thought is to always build up a village for them and treat them like any other citizen. I find it bizarre that people are genuinely surprised by the fact that I don't use mods like Fullbright, or that I advocate for villager rights, or that I prefer minecarts and boats over elytra and ice highways. I actually try to use my imagination for something, and I'm treated like I belong in a mental facility. I'm not kidding when I say that every single geopolitical server I've played has been plagued with a variety of pvp sweats that do nothing except grind just so they can start killing people. All it ever takes is one slip of the tongue or a generally insignificant action for their egos to shatter, and when that happens my gameplay turns from farming and fishing to building pillboxes around my town and dreading every moment that I spend outside of my town's claims. They never leave you alone, and most staff teams tend to write it off as "just geopolitics" and then pat themselves on the back as the server burns around them. When the dust settles, I'm always one of the last people to still be active. Then my experience comes to an end because there's simply nobody else I get to spend it with.
You sound like an awesome person to play with, those people that grind and then think you're nuts for trying to do actual geopolitics don't deserve you. I hope there's a server/group out there that'll appreciate your work and interests more!
Man, i just agree with you, SMPS just have been leaning into being, really sweaty grindy which i just don’t really enjoy, and the worse problem is that its not just smps/survival is the only thing suffering from this issue i used to play on a server called hive (the bedrock version of it) two years ago, it was fun and i grinded some games for fun (mainly skywars and survival games) i met a lot of kool people there and such 2 years later, nothing has been changed for much but man, the players reallllyyy did, all i see on skywars lobbies these days are egotistical sweats with the most tryhard skin ever who have the best ping and knows how to drag (also a leaderboard grinder), and when you kill em they will find the most dumb excuse like, ever, it doesn’t even have to make sense, which is just really annoying and frustrating for me, like, do they even enjoy what they are doing, do they even have a life to worry about? Overall, just, bring back the genuine fun that we all used to have, theres a lot of stuff that caused this issue to happen most notably leaderboards or leveling and such, thanks for joining my little chat here :D

My friends and I were just recently returning to Minecraft. That stuff about imagination is really true cuz once we started our SMP server, we began making flags and full blown towns and cities and elaborate bases. What a beautiful and powerful game I must say.
I Love this message of this video. I love playing minecraft but all my friends are always focused on getting netherite, having the best villager trades, making MASSIVE auto farms. It really ruins the magic of the game. A long time ago, before they did all these auto farms, some of my best memories of the game were made when we decided to make a little town. We had a town hall with mailboxes to send each other messages, we all had our own houses, I had a little restaurant where my friends would trade me resources for a ton of food. It really was what made the game so damn fun.

"Yeah sure, sounds fun!" 3 days in some dudes made an industrial area, made everything common and everyone stopped playing auto farms killed the game. that is my hottest take.

This is exactly how I feel. Especially during the pandemic, Minecraft was a great way to hang out with your friends. That's all I wanted it to be, just a sandbox where we could shoot the shit, play pranks on each other, go on fun adventures, and build cool houses together. I didn't want to spend ten hours grinding out the best gear. But most of the other people did, and cared more about minmaxing their gear and farms than hanging out with friends.
@@rocketpg_9532 9 months late, but HermitCraft does a good job with having a middle ground with a shopping district. Maybe your servers can implement something like that. They have their own economy and even the farms people make for the shops make people not excited to restock their shops if it is an item a lot of people need.

I got sucked into trying to beat the game, but now, I think I'm finally gonna go back to just playing like I did when I was in 3rd grade. Part of what changed my Minecraft experience was the sense of discovery you get when you play the game for the first time and everything is still unknown. I have a fond memory of 13 year old me finding an exposed iron ore back in 2012 and trying to mine it by hand because my pickaxe had just broken and I didn't want to bother going home to get another one (which wasn't even far from where I was, to begin with). I was there for a while trying to mine it by hand, thinking "I'm taking this thing with me, I don't care", and was actually so confused when it didn't drop. It's a simple memory, but I miss that exact feeling of not knowing the game, the feeling that made me try to mine iron with my bare hands. It's my favorite game, it's still a lot of fun, but I miss leaving home and not even knowing what I COULD find, like stumbling upon a jungle or a village for the first time. And that specific feeling made Minecraft the very root of all the nostalgic memories we all so closely cherish nowadays.
this is such a well-made video... correctly worded, with total emotions and emphases on words that needed to be spread, bringing back all the nostalgia of when I was a little kid, scares by the caves soundtrack but yet again blessed with all the music for the game, revisiting childhood memories of roleplay and minigames where me and my friends and brother just had fun. I miss those times and i'm so heartbroken knowing I might not get those memories back. That's why I applaud servers/people like the Dream SMP or those "I tried to make a civilization with 100 people" videos that just brings a smile across my face. Thank you for this once again... i hope the future generations will find minecraft to be just as fun as our generation did.

This is a very good summary. Now that i think about it personally i think i lost that ability to just use my imagination when i got to the point in school that they started graded us. Suddenly i went from a little kid who was a little above average good at multiplication tables to someone who was expected to achieve things at every corner and be judged by a letter that will supposedly define your entire future. I think the pressure really shifted my entire mindset, i suddenly had to be good at things instead of just having fun, i needed to complete everything i did, and complete it efficiently and well. Nowadays i feel guilty playing games if i don't somehow "make progress", which is stupid since i'm supposed to be relaxing. Society and school in particular has somehow drilled this idea of needing to be productive and achieving something constantly so deep into my mind i cant escape it anymore. I wish i could play Minecraft again like i used to, playing pretend with my friends, not worrying about finishing a build or getting an item fast enough that i have time to sleep 6 hours before school and work the day after.

Honestly, I think that what we are suppose to do with our lives is to have fun with everything we *want* to do, but ppl aren't just thinking properly or enough. See, I have this disease called Sickle Cell, type ss and I learned that stress or anything negative really will put me in the hospital, so I'm trying to tone it down as much as possible by doing what I want and trying my hardest to ignore ppl but they just keep hounding on me not realizing that I know what I'm doing even though it LOOKS like I'm not doing a thing. Sure I don't actually want to play games my whole life, but ppl can make tons of money just by doing that. The only reason I want to do more than just play games is because I'm an artist and an animal lover and also, God already has a job for me waiting for me to be ready for it. Unfortunately, nobody listens to me, especially since I'm (probably) the only one actually doing research and experiments on literally everything I encounter >:( Idk how I'm gonna get them to stop hounding on me about things, but it's not like I can run away either. Not yet at least. If I am going to do anything more than just play games, I have to get rid of this disease first. It's more damaging to me than anybody else I know with it so far and nobody else realizes it. I mean like, everybody that knows, knows the disease or even the trait knows can kill the ppl that have it, they just don't know that it is literally blocking me from doing much of anything and God blocking me from some things as well makes it a lot worse. They just want me to cope with something I know I can't cope with because of the Gods controlling my *almost* every move not to mention this weird random forgetfulness I have doesn't help anything one bit🙄 I forget random things at random times and it is the worst. What makes me even more mad than that is that I can't even think about love when in a school and/or church area but I can feel it, so everything anybody says about love goes over my head >:( I can't even tell anybody that unless we see each other outside of said area and I remember to say it. I'm a lot more stuck than ppl realize and also I just happen to be the Chosen One, the most important person just because I know better than everyone else meaning only I can save y'all stupid @ssess from destroying yourselves even more than you guys already have... I saw a video a week or so ago talking about why minecraft isn't fun anymore, and that's because it doesn't have the progression that games like Terraria does, with higher levels meaning higher level bosses. but it's just not that kind of game, it's one where exploration and building and using your imagination are the important parts, not trying to constantly grind to defeat the next boss. felt like that person just missed the forest for the trees, missed the bigger picture of what minecraft is supposed to be about--and I think you got it in one
Progression has been slowly integrated over the years, just not to the satisfaction of some. I remember when there was almost zero progression, now there's Elytra, shulker boxes, guardians, raids, beacons, armor trims, the warden (I built a warden farm to kill him over and over again, which was quite satisfying), nether bastions, etc. etc. But yeah, the structured progression isn't present so you have to form your own checklists to add that value to it. I have a minecraft progress checklist that I drafted up and after several months on a server I'm still no where near to completing my checklist. My checklist revolves around base building, map art creation, redstone contraptions, automated farms, finding every rare item, armor trim collection, etc. So right now I'm in my "end game" which funnily enough is LONG after I've gone to The End. The End was actually part of my early game. Killing the Ender Dragon was like my Act 1 boss level. Currently, I'm progressing through my third nether run, building gold farms, bartering farms, wither skeleton skull farms, and collecting all the armor trims. I'm kind of annoyed because I've raided 8 bastions but I've only found 1 nether fortress and it didn't have Rib so I'm just flying around looking for another fortress. (I can't use chunk base because our server's seed is hidden, which adds so much more mystery and excitement to the game tbh.)
@@fartkerson I have my own checklist as well, and I procrastinated on a wither skeleton farm for a long time. Ianxofour’s design was actually quite easy to make, and for a simple guy like myself, is more than capable. Combined with his wither rose farm, it makes a great pairing

@@samschellhase8831 Like I said, it's not that I haven't used chunk base for simplicity, but the server I play in hides its seed. I just play on servers for the challenge. Simply playing on an anarchy no hacks server itself adds extra time to everything you do. Spawn is a nightmare for thousands of blocks, so the first couple hours are a challenging parkour journey filled with withers and players hunting you down as you enter spawn. There's also nothing of use in sight, so you are basically running naked with no tools until you get to safety. It's a different experience. Not for everyone. It's just what I've found is fun after having done everything. I find it gratifying to have escaped the spawn and then traveled out half a million blocks to create a kingdom on a server filled with griefers.
This actually hits home, very hard. I suddenly decided that i wanna be a mage and play the game 100% magic only, downloaded a shit ton of random stuff and only use the spellbook from Ars Nouveau... sucks major ass at the beginning but its quite fun after you get going lmao
I remember in 2016, me, my friend and my cousin roleplaying in a large town we built, we had our houses, our workplaces, the world full of different places and easter eggs, I came back this year and the nostalgia hit me soooo hard, there was everything there, we sure weren't great builders as kids but it's still more beautiful than any other world. Minecraft is truly the greatest game of all time

As someone who loves Minecraft but is conventionally bad at the game, I was never able to beat the dragon or get netherite, so making my own little stories is all I've ever been able to do. And when it's been with friends, it's been some of the best gaming experiences of my life.
Well actually I Beat Enderdragon just 1 time I always get diamond armor I'm scared of nether but still I found fortress like 5 times (some are with cheats) but I made houses castles from TH-cam I love building but I suck at it also still I feel like I'm doing something that no one can do
honestly i feel like i needed this when you compared the fun of the older days to "playing to completion" it hit me when i try coding datapacks or mods they add more steps in completion, but maybe i should code things that are just... fun i needed this a lot. thank you.

This is how I'm keeping my old world fresh. I've built an underwater castle on a guardian farm and am now building a town around it. Whenever I get stuck I ask what do the people do when they are sick, how do they travel, where do they shop, what do they do with their garbage, etc... It quickly gives me a little boost for that next project and keeps me having fun.
its crazy how you had such a similar experience to me. i live in the middle of no where, but i was homeschooled so i never could even make any friends irl. literally started having my first "relationships" when i was like 10-11 on like these small smp servers that i found off of youtube where like 10-15 people played a day, not to mention my phase of applying for staff on a lot of servers too just like you. man its so nostalgic, im 18 now.
Beautiful video ❤ I'm an old newbie (40 years old lol) having just set up a server early this year with my friend and I'm just loving it! I love to build whilst he's more into farming and caving so we're a good team. I'm sad I missed out on an entire decade of this game but better late than never!

For my most recent world I've downgraded the game back to Beta 1.7.3 and have just been chillin. There's no End, Elytra, or anything like that so I can just build without feeling like I need to go "grind for the best gear." I've just been working on building a little village and its all very relaxing and peaceful!😌

Right now, after like... years of barely remembring it existed, I finally started a new world, thanks to this video. You're right, imagination is everything. And I may even roleplay as if something is chasing me.
This was such a sweet love letter to Minecraft, thank you for sharing your experience!!! Serves as a great reminder of why we all loved the early versions of the game, and of all the things we can do. I've been a little stuck on some larger projects in my main world for a while, and recently decided to create a new world. Went out and found a really cool bit of terrain, a few structures, and openings where I could add my own! I'm sure I will go back to my main world and probably bounce back and forth, but it's nice to have a break from staring down things I haven't yet completed.
I totally relate to how you feel about Minecraft. I've been playing since it first came out on PC. I even played the PC beta for crying out loud. My childhood friends question why I'm still playing Minecraft in the present days. Honestly, Minecraft has helped me get through some dark times. I've played it when I was sick, depressed, anxious and bored. No matter what, I always had an idea that I wanted to bring to life in Minecraft. A full year of play time in and multiple worlds adventured, it will always be my favorite game.
In my last world, I play with a no mining rule. Dude, Villagers make you the king of traders. They have everything you need. That's amazing. I got bored from mining. That was the reason I wasn't playing the game. Now, everything is pure new. I keep learning new stuff everyday. I started playing in 2009.

I really needed this video a year and a half ago. This reminds me so much of how I first played minecraft, at 8, 9, 10, just doing whatever (with no sense of aesthetics whatsoever). Hearing all of this again means a lot to me, and will hopefully reinvigorate my next SMP. Thank you

One thing I struggle with is that I always feel like I need to get the best of everything before I can start focusing on just building and such. And by the time I have that Prot. IV Netherite Armor, I've done so much grinding that I'm just tired, and feel so uninspired to continue, even though at that point I've done all the most boring parts.
For me the problem is that i LOVE grinding and getting the best gear. But the game is too easy I am super competitive and love difficult games and constantly getting better and better but elytras and chulkerboxes make the game insanely easy…. Thats why hardcore appeals to me, but even in hardcore i dont go past the enderdragon because elytras are just so fucking busted
@@axelbrackeniers5488 I never felt like Shulkerboxes and Elytra make the game any easier really, they're only just time-savers. But for someone like you, I might recommend maybe getting into speedrunning the game? That's a much more grindy way to play and it's super competitive.
I was already more or less on board with the main message of the video. MC is an endless, sandbox game, after all. The main issue I run into is that I sometimes bite off more than I can chew with crazy ambitious projects, and get burned out trying to finish them. And that doesn't even begin to cover how demotivated I can get when the game gets updated, or I find a new mod, and there's no easy way to incorporate the mod or update into existing worlds without breaking some things.
If you don't finish a project, don't worry about it, its the building of it that is the fun part. It's not like you're building a highway in real life and people are waiting for you to complete it to reduce traffic 😂 Minecraft building is art and good artists will tell you its all about the journey not the finished product. So don't put yourself under so much pressure. Play the game like a kid would, be ambitious sure, but don't let it burn you out. Take a break from the build. You can always come back to it years later even to finish it or just leave it as a ruin in your world. Ruins are important too!
Like drewid said, minecraft builds are a kind of art. I can't say just how many worlds/builds/stories/drawings I've given up on. And sometimes, those ghosts are a nice addition to the collection of finished pieces, little notes and pieces of something that couldve been. I get burnt out building big things too, don't worry about WIPs getting chucked out the window
This is why I love playing modded minecraft. It's been two years since I started a modded survival world and while I get burnout sometimes from building all my contraptions and the likes but I still play it when I get the time. You're right in the imagination thing cause I've got this whole lore set up for my build. A whole sci-fi underground labratory akin to Black Mesa and so on.
I love that!! Personally I like to interconnect multiple worlds across all forms of the game with lore, its been amazing to just have so many details and characters to keep track of, and tie together!
I just wish mods kept pace with minecraft versions, instead of half the mods being stuck in prehistory, and most of the rest in the stone age. I want my fancy cave generation and other neat features!
@@tylisirn if I recall, there is a way to "backport" the mods into newer versions but I'm too sure how it works. A friend of mine set up a minecraft server with a modpack from curseforge back in 2021 when 1.17 was released and it contained the Aether in it which has not been updated to newer versions yet.

One of the things I realized I had stopped doing in terms of using my imagination was coming up with names for cool areas and landmarks. Like in my first worlds, my mine would be called "Bedrock Mineshaft" and the nearby forest biome was called the "Lumberwood Forest." I only realized about a year and a half ago that I had stopped doing that for some reason, so I started doing it again. Now the landmarks and areas are more personal and I feel a lot more attachment to my worlds.

Reminds me of Keystone Keep, A castle I built with my friend. It's the highest artificial structure in the world, and protects the entrance to our mountain base.
As someone who lives for the grind, Minecraft was just a match made in heaven for me. I could literally go caving for like 12 hours and be just fine with it. Biggest part that stumped me was actually making my own builds. I dont mind grinding for the materials, but I always need inspiration for the builds. I enjoy the journey much more than the destination. I think the way you play Minecraft reflects a lot of who you are in life.

That's why I really want to find a probably nonexisting server where everyone's a worldbuilder, everyone's, working together to expand the world, make proper economics and production, fight in organized way (no fancy pvp arena, just pure "medieval warfare" for the ones who wants to protect their land and their homes (yeah i mean spawnpoints mostly)), and not run as far away from people as you can (bc everything will be destroyed, stolen, and you'll be mugged), but cluster, make even small but communities with specialisations...
You know, I'm an artist. Most of my friends are those rare people who can't imagine their lives without bright imagination, without creation and fun, and most of players on servers are exact opposite of that. They want to become stronger, beat the game and everyone they show upon, destroy "hostile" creations and make everyone be afraid of them.. while I can't even leave a hole in the ground uncovered bc or looks bad.
And you know what? We builders need people like you, who's always at the caves and in search of materials.
@@KageToHikari_CG My friend and I usually spitball base ideas then work together to make it. In my solo worlds, I never rush to the dragon fight. I tend to have a full base with a lot of terraforming and several farm builds done before then. I go into the dragon fight with fully enchanted diamond gear. Most people who complain about there being nothing to do miss the point and grind for the dragon immediately. Even though I need inspiration, I will have a base idea in mind. Since my ideas arent many, I try to just pour a lot of time into one world. Ive only had 2 solo worlds that I put a lot of time into. I usually take big breaks and wait for a few major updates to release

The one thing I always wanted to do was to get like a dozen people on a world, and have each person scatter across the world build their own town in their own unique style, and after a week, everyone works together to build roads and railways to connect the towns together to see what each person has created. Not really as a competition, but to see what each person can do in a given timeframe, and what they prioritize. Doesn't matter if there's hyper efficient farms, ornate castles, or piercing skyscrapers. Everything has a meaning and shows the creativity of the person making it.

So many people trying to "win" life and get all these stats, instead of being a kid and marveling at the world around us, instead of exploring and discovering new things. We lose sight of what fun we can have and become depressed because of it.
Yes!!! I'll be honest, Minecraft and the people that create stories within it have given me that same worldview as I've grown. It's been- oh gosh, 5 years now? Maybe even more, now that I think about it. But however long it's been, it's become more than a game, more than roleplays, more than just TH-camrs. It's become a perfect looking glass to see the world in all its beauty, from the tiny flowers to the people that care for me. Minecraft's sandbox style just...fits so well.

Fun fact. Some SMP's intentionally delay that moment of killing of the ender dragon because, Minecraft without elytras and shulkers and Minecraft with elytras and shulkers are obsolutely different games.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever actually beaten the Ender Dragon myself...

honestly, one of the most beautiful videos. There is no "winning" Minecraft, and that's just the truth. In my personal opinion its the people you play with that makes it fun. its the mindless adventures, burning buildings, and killing each other that adds a joy like no other. roleplaying is fantastic, and even better with friends! bust as said in the video, it all boils down to imagination, and how far your willing to take it

Also, I'd recommend Tectonic mod 'cause it's compatible with Terralith if you want smooth terrain generation.
And yes, please do add mods as well. The fun is limitless and gives Terraria-like feel. Though, not too much mods otherwise it'll lag hellalot.

But I assume that’s because it’s on newer versions, and most people mod the game with 1.12-1.16, and Terralith is only on 1.18 and up, since most people’s first mod packs will be on 1.12-1.16, they’ll only know about Biomes O’ Plenty, and Oh The Biomes You’ll Go, since most wouldn’t look for something new, when they know the one they already have works well.
When the game first came out, my family had just moved to a new house in the middle of nowhere. My dad, a computer nerd, was interested in the possibilities of this game, so much so that he bought 4 copies, 1 for all of us so we could sit down and experience the magic of a lan party. Those are some of my best memories.

One of the things I like to do is a "progression run". Take curing villagers: I know how to do it, but I refrain from doing it until I come across my first Gapple (oh, we can have golden apples), and then still won't cure villagers until I come across an igloo with a basement SHOWING me how to cure villagers. The wiki is off limits.
I'm in my 50's and I still play Minecraft almost daily. Survival mode and Hardcore are such a thrill still. I use creative mode to explore ideas and then go build them in my survival worlds. The challenge is exciting and frustrating but the satisfaction of completing a goal is totally worth it.

Imo, this is the best "current state of Minecraft" video out there, by far. Nobody talks about this! All the questions about the game being too easy or Mojang being lazy or whatever just fall away into irrelevance when you look at it from this perspective.

You are bang on about Minecraft being most enjoyable when you use your imagination. I've fallen in love with the game for that very reason:
In my private server, my character is an immortal sorcerer from a Nether-like dimension that isn't connected to the MC dimensions. He somehow got isekaied into the MC Tri-dimensional area due to dimensional tectonic plate shift (the dimensional version of an earthquake) along with the single outpost he was resting in at the time (He commanded a vast magical empire in his home dimension). However, the outpost is doing the dimensional version of "rendering" in that things that were there in the home dimension are slowly trickling in one after the other along various points in the timeline (my headcanon reason for why he doesn't have every single item and tool in the game already from start) including a Nether Portal in the basement (which used to be a portal that let him instantly travel between outposts back home).
He's struggling to master animal husbandry, farming, combat, mining, and forging without his magic (since MC doesn't have spells and such, not without mods anyhow). It's a journey for him. He's found that he adores wolves/dogs. To the point where he keeps every bone he finds or gets for taming purposes instead of bone meal and tames every wolf he can find. He has an army of dogs at his command at this point. He's also struggling to come to grips with the existence of peaceful mobs like villagers, or the fact that not everything in the world wants to or has evolved to kill him and everything else, which is how it is back where he's from. He's also slowly coming to grips with the fact that he may not be evil at heart, but was just born and lived countless thousands of years in a world where being evil was a requirement to survive.
All of that story and RP came from one skin I bought on the marketplace. One. Single. Skin. That's all it took to inspire me to build a mage tower completely out of Crying Obsidian off the coast right at World Spawn, and slowly add various things to it (like new floors or the Nether Portal) in Creative as I played. One little skin I bought for 300 coins has given me almost one hundred hours of fun in the past few weeks. I can't wait to see what else will inspire me.
Something i’ll admit is i’ve never ONCE between the Ender Dragon by myself in survival. I’ve always been happy building this amazing worlds with town names and books with lore in it etc. I love loading into a new world and exploring until i see something that sparks an idea and i just build. Why i love playing to this day

I think as we've gotten older, a lot of us have gotten out of touch with what Minecraft was meant to be. We focus on a "goal" we're supposed to complete, but that was never what the game was supposed to be about. Minecraft is about the journey, not the destination. I have been so caught up in my frustration with some of Mojang's decisions lately that I forgot what made Minecraft fun in the first place. No game has ever given me quite the same feeling I had when I first played Minecraft as a kid. Thank you so much for making this video. Seeing the old Minecraft website and trailer launched me on such a high nostalgia wave.

The long scrawling story at the end proves that given what it tells you. It does go on for a remarkably long time though.
I think this is the kind of player Mojang was trying to cater to with 1.20, which is why it ended up being a miss with so many people since people seem to focus on "beating" the game so much. So many features of the update were about using your imagination, like the archeology structures where you imagine who used to live there, or the pottery sherds where you use environmental storytelling, same with the armor trims. I think a lot of people missed the point with that update.
You can explain away every single useless feature with "use your imagination". It's an extremely weak argument.

The problem is that as people grow older, an imagination gets hard to keep as we're trained in every day life to be more and more logical, and unless you grew up in a situation where you were allowed to express creativity in a creative way instead of a destructive way. You probably have enough money to play something else that imagination has no part in...
Therefore it's rare to see good imaginative minecraft youtubers who catch lots of people's attentions.
You find it easier to play with young people as an adult because you get the resources and allow the kid to build their view. And in doing so (you spoil that kid) you give yourself a way to feel nostalgic and have those memories and feelings you used to have when playing the game. Honestly I remember playing the game on Mobile when it first released on mobile. I met one of my best online friends on a Blockman app which was basically minecraft multiplayer for mobile. People always talk about the Minecraft history for Java, but nobody ever talks about the mobile experience.
In one of my worlds recently, I got really into fishing. I was sitting there like, "Why doesn't anybody enjoy fishing in this game?". It's genuinely so fun and calming. And I got a really good fishing rod and a lot of other loot. I get so caught up in how "bad" I am at the game--I've never beaten it, and I have a hard time in The Nether. But sometimes it's better to just sit and fish.
I AGREE I love farming and fishing and managing resources in Minecraft and I always try to take that role when I play with friends
This is true. Farming and Fishing have been the calmest thing to do for me. I kinda wish that me and my friends would hop on a server one day and just have fun.
I remember several years ago in a server with all my friends, for whatever reason we did not have access to mending books. It was a problem bc obviously mending is just so amazing to have. Anyway, around that time I had read on the wiki about fishing and all the loot you could get for it, including enchanted books. I was ecstatic bc I thought "finally, we have a way to get mending books!" So, I got the best fishing rod I could, and just started fishing. It was basically all I did whenever I played, and we played a lot. I would sit there for hours just pressing the right mouse button and talking to my friends through discord, and I loved it. Of course the chances of getting even an enchanted book were low, and one that had mending was close to zero, but I didn't care. I ended up getting so many enchanted fishing rods that I just combined them all to get the best one I possible could, with all the fishing enchantments, and even mending so that it would never break. After weeks of doing it I had dozens upon dozens of enchanted books, fishing rods, bows, armour, etc, and a whole load of everything else, and I actually ended up getting one book with mending. I was so happy, and I just kept fishing.

Man, I've been struggling with this, not just in Minecraft, but in just about every game I play. I think I've started to get too caught up on doing things the "best" way, progressing "the fastest," worrying about completion - and it's ruined gaming for me a lot. My best experiences have not been when I'm min-maxing things or looking up a million things on the wiki - it's been when I've just allowed myself to have fun without worrying about if I'm best utilizing my time and doing things the correct way.
Once I start building auto farms in Minecraft or massive villager trading halls, the game just dies for me. I've been trying to get back into playing games more like I did as a kid, but it's not easy
Are there any MC TH-camrs you like, that do more chill content like megabuilds or roleplay? Maybe you can start there?
I think social media gaming and speed running are what has created that mindset within our culture. There’s millions of hardcore TH-camrs whose entire video idea is based around the goal itself being impressive somehow, and speed running is a very specific way of playing the game that has an objective measurement of performance and a ton of different strategies and techniques associated with it meant for playing efficiently.
They are why people feel the need to accomplish goals that are above their skill level or just really grindy, rather than engage with the game in the way they find most fun.
I have a set of rules for myself when it comes to Minecraft in particular:
No automatic farms
No cruelty to the life in the world
No outright destruction of the world(like digging out massive chunks down to bedrock)
No bug/glitch abuse
And lastly, take my time with it. Build something every now and then. Terraform a bit.
Even focusing on going after the Ender Dragon, the Elytra, that prot 4 netherite, and shulker boxes, it makes the game more *fun*.
One example of these rules being applied is improving a village rather than locking the villagers away in 1x1x2 boxes. It makes the villager breeding more annoying, but making sure the houses had all the beds required, I had doubled the villager population in one fell swoop. One of the first things I do in a village is clean up the paths.

Or have you also given yourself the chance to automate the hell out of anything and everything, slaughter animals and villagers with gusto, gouge out the land with cruelty, abuse glitches like there is no tomorrow and speedrun like Cthulhu is hot on your tail? I mean, that's kinda the point of the video. Try it all.

Its so hard when it feel like you have no imagination left. Everytime i get on the game, i get exhausted with having to think of a new unique idea for a build. I so miss this game, but it seems like all my mind ever craves anymore is progression. And that unfortunately is the same with every playthrough.
Make a superflat survival world, and if u die u delete the world
its about mindset, idk but i think progression and creativity come from different parts. creativity comes from a part of the brain that doesn't want to go anywhere and progression needs something you don't have
A trick that's working for me right now is playing in Floating Worlds. I had this simple idea of using RfTools Dimensions to "escape it" but even finding a damn bunch of clay and sand is near impossible. It's making travelling and building roads to find my way back actually interesting and fun!
The worst thing you can do is set yourself "standard" objectives like build shelter and stock up on food, those will give you a mindset related to safety and you could be safe forever by being in a hole in the ground with water and carrots.

Having to? You donť have to. In Minecraft you can do everything, if you can't come up with build idea, just go mining or exploring the world. And if you want to build something that much, explore the world or watch youtube videos and get inspiration. Just as I said, Minecraf isn't about having to, it's about wanting to.

In April of 2021, I downloaded Minecraft Trial and experienced the game for the first time in my life... And I spent my 1st 2 months playing Minecraft Trial on my old 2009 PC... Played in 20fps and thought "Wow!"... Digging down and Building Dirt houses and misunderstanding "creeper" as some poisonous plant that would kill me... (My sound was off and the creeper always exploded behind me)
I learnt Minecraft in under a month and would literally spend hours playing it... In June, I discovered "TLauncher" and downloaded it to play cracked Minecraft... As time goes by, Building Houses in creative mode, Playing on cracked servers with my friends... Making new friends, playing Bedwars and Skywars, trying out different maps, and a load of fun!!! Ah! What Memories!
After spending a long time playing cracked, I made a decision to ask my parents to buy me Minecraft, I used my pocket money in order to purchase this game... And this is, and will be my best purchase ever...
Now, as a "Pro" Minecraft Player, I still look back into the old days and wonder about the OG Minecraft... I sometimes quit the latest version and jump back to the Betas, And it feels great... Also the Minecraft track BY C418. Has to be the best soundtrack I ever heard... Every night... I listen to these and... It makes me feel good!

This honestly made me feel so much better about how I've done stuff like "never beating the ender dragon legitimately" or "chickening out from the nether because ghasts are scary."
Maybe I should just return to when I was younger, when I would build 256 block tall diving boards into a tiny pool on flat worlds. That was fun, it was dumb, but fun.

Yeah, anything I feel you can easily grind out with time, I just switch to creative and knock it out quickly. Screw digging out, crafting and transporting 100 stacks of cobblestone wall/stairs, im just gonna build the damn bridge I want. Because cobblestone is a renewable resource, your time is not.

This just brought a tear to my eye... I started a realm about a month ago because I missed playing Minecraft with friends. We were having fun, dying to creepers and exploring the nether together like we used to. Now most of them don't play anymore out of boredom and the ones that do want to kill the dragon so they can move on to other games.Thank you for such a heartfelt message. I like this video. A core memory was going to my friend’s house, building a “gladiator arena” on their super-flat world, and fighting each other over and over again. They were the only ones who owned Minecraft at the time, and getting to play it was so much fun. Now we live several states away, and work too much to have those sessions anymore. But I will cherish those moments.

I think that’s why the 100/1000 day videos have blown up. I love watching people explore their worlds and build it out. I have a hard time sticking to things but with this game it always feels like I can come back no matter how long has passed
It might be that many do it on Hardcore so it means something surviving 100 days.
You're not forced to explore the world for 100 days, if you get into a building project that time will fly past and you never really have to do much.

The first time for anything will never be easy, or turn out the way we expect. But the next time, it's a little better. Sleep on it, take a break from screens, read a book, doze off. Try again. Now you've had rest, there is a possibility you're closer to meeting expectations, or you discover an alternative to what you desired that changes everything.

What even give You idea to "have to beat" the sandbox game in the first place? I mean of all the things in the community "beating Minecraft" always seems to as the most blatantly stupid idea without any real basis. And contradictory to it's genre.
As long as you're having fun, you should play as you want. Only thing beating the Ender Dragon does for you is access to the End islands and a decorative egg. On my private server we had people who had never even been to the End, let alone beat the dragon before.

I'm an extremely goal-oriented person when it comes to videogames, so trying to get all the achievements on a survival world or maximizing the drops out of a farm was always fun to me. But the things I was always the most proud of and had the most fun with were the random structures I designed and built myself, even though I'm generally not a very creative person. Even with the farms I built, it was the extra time I put into making it look cool that made me proud of it.
Same, though I tend to get focused on random goals in game instead of maximizing like farm drops, it can certainly lead to some wild moments!
I was creative at first in minecraft doing random stuff, but as i got older, I got hooked on the ftb modpacks like skyfactory3 and other goal type experiences.
I think it's natural to also feel artistically inspired when building something that also serves a function. Like, how can I build an enderman farm that also looks cool? A sugarcane farm that also looks pleasingly industrial aesthetic-wise?
When I play (usually with modpacks), what keeps me inspired is thinking about what practical purpose a new building could serve. Like, a dedicated biofuel refinery housed in it's own dedicated building, a dedicated smelting facility, a dedicated warehouse, a dedicated blue ice factory etc. My greatest joy comes from seeing an entire town emerging, made up of individual buildings that all serve a clear and identifiable purpose, and hopefully I also manage to make them look nice. It's not very efficient to design things this way if you want to progress through the modpack, but I still feel there's a rational reason for every building to exist beside pure aesthetics.
In a similar vein, I'm one of those (really, quite many) people who love constructing buildings for villagers. A smithy for the smith, a tannery for the tanner etc. Not because it's actually useful (I never trade anything), but just knowing that a villager of that profession will inhabit that place and work there is gratification enough for me.
On the other hand, I rarely feel motivated to build things that don't correspond to an at least implied in-game purpose. So I would likely never build a biofuel refinery if there was no biofuel in the modpack. I build plenty of harbors where I can neatly park boats, but rarely build any ships.
In my worldview, the distinction between creative and functional goal-specific builds is very blurry. One can lean more to one side or the other, but they're very much connected. Even when I am in the mood to do purely creative builds, it's always with some sort of implied purpose. The villagers don't really need a trading post down by the river, but one could reasonably pretend that they would. I think artistic people distinguish themselves by being quite good at coming up with these pretended purposes to serve as inspiration when there's technically no practical incentive.
A huge piece of advice: don’t do things which are “trendy” if you don’t enjoy them. Play Minecraft how YOU want to. For example I’m currently going to be starting a 1.6.4 mod pack series because it reminds me of good old days, when I really wanted to play those mods but my laptop was too terrible, so now I can fully experience it, of course with friends

This reminded me of that feeling that I had when I first played the game: that unadulterated child-like wonder, freedom, and creativity. Needless to say, I got a bit emotional. Another thing to keep in mind is that the game design philosophy behind Minecraft's development has changed quite a bit since the earlier days. Since then, there's been lots of features added that encourage this type of linear play where you just want to "finish" the game. There will always be people who enjoy building and doing other things, but the core audience has definitely changed
That's true. I think the YT MC community have driven that mindset. Like, I LOVE 100 days vida but they definitely promote a sort of "goal" driven mindset I think. But when I play, I just build and enjoy. Though, I sometimes get bored with that. I do like having objectives to chase whenever I want to.

Having someone share such a clean perspective on what the game was always intended to be is so refreshing. I'd always play in bursts, always trying to advance as much as I could, always shameful about how bland and rushed pats of my base were. I was envious of people who could build and actually look at their world and feel proud. Now, as I start a new playthrough and build a wizards tower out of woods and deepslate, I feel like a kid again; finally enjoying the serenity and peace of the blocky world around me.

This and some other yt videos have really helped me rediscover my love for the game two and avoid the ≈two week or 1 month Minecraft phase. Must have been part of why people tapered off in 2016, in addition to the natural growing out of it naturally from being a kid. But then going back it later and loving it. I had that experience with Doctor Who recently, which i adored in middle school. Felt like an old friend.
I’ve gotten incrementally better at building now just from experimenting and not worrying about the Nether or End or Elytra. I can compare it to an even longer version of me playing Breath of the Wild, where it took me I think at least 2 years to beat the main quest. But the main quest isn’t the point of that game; like Minecraft it’s to explore and experiment (just in BOTW’s case primarily with combat and puzzles instead of building). To have fun!!!
I started playing minecraft in 2011, and the way you describe your experience with the game really reminds of when I first started playing it. the idea of "hiding from someone trying to kill you" isnt weird, its just making your own fun. and minecraft is perfect for that sort of fun. this video is a good reminder that games like these are about finding your own fun, whatever it is.

Imagination, a powerful tool
It's been 10 years since I last played Minecraft. Currently I'm playing it to experience all the new stuff they added. So far the Warden and Deep Dark are my favorites.
As a person who has been playing regularly for about 12 years now, effectively having the game raise me, I cheer you on. And I'm sure everyoneelse does too.
My suggestion: Take progression slowly. Intentionally limit what gear you can get or what dimensions you can go to for some amount of days, or until you complete a specific goal. Me and some friends have created a world where we did just that, and it's been pretty fun so far.

I set INSANE goals that you can't reach in just a few days or maybe even weeks. Also placing limitations is a good idea.

This video is like a breath of fresh air compared to everything else that's going on in the world. Hope I find that childish wonder I had when I first played Minecraft back in 2012. 5 year old me was filled with the feeling of accomplishment after completing my first "house" in creative mode. It was a 3 block thick by 12 blocks long and 11 blocks tall and all made out of gold, a door off center by the left, a bed, torches filling every single possible block on the inside. I remember spawning a ghast inside and since it was so cramped in there, it started suffocating and that scared me so much that I never went back to that world. Too bad my grandma sold her router for some reason (which means I couldn't connect to Minecraft). She sold that computer a few months ago. First computer I ever touched, then again it was a Windows Vista but I didn't care about that. I just cared that I could play Minecraft on it.
My first survival house had the exact same dimensions but was made out of oak planks. I built it on the old in-browser version and it ended up looking like a cereal box with windows. I lost it when trying to burn some nearby trees to make room and ended up catching the house on fire.

omg this video unlocked old Minecraft memories of when i used to play on creative plot servers all the time... i'd get a whole bunch of random people who were on the server at the time to come build on my plot with me and we'd build something that we considered super ambitious at the time. i distinctly remember one where we were trying to collectively build a city on a massive plot and it was probably one of the most fun times i've ever had in that game. most of us were building a hospital and a ridiculously tall and skinny hotel for a long time, and some other people were building the streets out for future building placements. one guy kept building subways (the restaurant not a subway train lol) and at some point that same guy decided to rebrand them all to "Zombway" and thus the nonexistant citizens of our city were now zombies lmaooo. god, that was so fun

I’ve played Minecraft since the start. 7th grade til now. I’m 25 and graduated. I proudly and gladly still play. The game brings tears to my eyes. That’s how beautiful it still is to me. You’re totally right. We play for completion and get bored because of that. I’ve been trying to find the reason as to why I’m bored and I get burnt out of Minecraft for a year or more here and there. We play to have fun and use our imagination. And when I was a kid and I started Minecraft all I could use was my imagination because I didn’t know how to do anything the possibilities were limitless and the sense of wonder the game gave me was insane. Now I get all the best enchants and beat the ender dragon as well as get the best armor and tools and I feel empty. This is the exact reason I’m almost afraid of beating the ender dragon because I know what comes after. That emptiness. The empty feeling. I’m waiting for mojang to update the end with more biomes so my imagination and wonder can soar freely again. So I can explore new worlds. This is exactly why I should get a PC and play modded. I never have. But I need to.

I also think it's absolutely fine to have keep inventory on and it's not fake minecraft or cheating. Sometimes you just want to go exploring without the stress of losing everything when you die
Well play the game however you want to, but leaving it off can lead to some intense moments which could make the gameplay more interesting (but that's just my opinion)

It's the fact that you can have the best gear in the game and still get 2-Tapped by him and losing everything that makes it so fun to go there, the screams that come out of my friends and i while raiding the ancient cities are worth keeping inventory off alone!

@@akithefullThis is why I'm glad it's an option to keep it on or off. Personally the danger is not what appeals to me. I just like building, exploring and gathering resources. Combat and falling stupidly into lava isn't what I'm in it for, and creative feels a little empty to me because now, my challenge is just to get the stuff I need to actually build things.
i personally do enjoy the grinding and collection aspect of the game most, but building and creativity absolutely goes a long way. just building things to build things and seeing your imagination become a virtual reality is very neat
I remember back in 2012, playing Minecraft on my XBOX 360, having the time of my life with my friends or forcing my parents to grab another controller and play split-screen on a random creative world, using the world settings to set them to survival to just mess with them or try different ways to kill them in the game. It was way simpler back then. I never worried about beating the game and rarely played survival, I just had fun doing whatever.
I found a modpack for Java that brings back that legacy 4JStudios XBOX 360 Minecraft feeling. It's made me want to play minecraft again, in survival, and just have fun doing whatever, not caring about the quality of my builds, not worrying about going too quick and getting the best things right away, but instead going at my own pace and enjoying the game again.
DanTDM started a series, too, where he just started a world to enjoy the game and take it slow and I'm following in his footsteps. I need creativity again to enjoy the game and Legacy4J (the mod I mentioned, Re-Console being the modpack) is just what I needed, as well as this video. I'm about to go to sleep after this comment is sent, but I'm going to start that new world when I wake up to enjoy the game like I used to.
Whenever I play Minecraft, I usually do something related to geopolitics. It's always a fun experience to join an Earth server or something similar just to build a nation from the ground up and engage in diplomacy with other players.
The main problem is that nowadays you never really get to enjoy any genuine geopolitics. When I try doing things with any sense of formality, people just look at me funny and think that I'm taking everything too seriously.
Most of the people I see in these kinds of servers are always obsessed with grinding for netherite or building massive farms that will make everything they need for them. More often than not, I look at the dynmap and I see full netherite players with little more than a row of chests and furnaces that they call home.
Meanwhile I spend my time vibing, building up my town day by day, and doing everything (ranging from farming to fishing) manually. I never really strive to make things like villager halls or mob grinders, and I often find it more fun to enable mob spawns in the towns I make so I can hold off a horde of zombies at my front door every night. If I ever do get villagers, my first thought is to always build up a village for them and treat them like any other citizen.
I find it bizarre that people are genuinely surprised by the fact that I don't use mods like Fullbright, or that I advocate for villager rights, or that I prefer minecarts and boats over elytra and ice highways. I actually try to use my imagination for something, and I'm treated like I belong in a mental facility.
I'm not kidding when I say that every single geopolitical server I've played has been plagued with a variety of pvp sweats that do nothing except grind just so they can start killing people. All it ever takes is one slip of the tongue or a generally insignificant action for their egos to shatter, and when that happens my gameplay turns from farming and fishing to building pillboxes around my town and dreading every moment that I spend outside of my town's claims. They never leave you alone, and most staff teams tend to write it off as "just geopolitics" and then pat themselves on the back as the server burns around them.
When the dust settles, I'm always one of the last people to still be active. Then my experience comes to an end because there's simply nobody else I get to spend it with.
You sound like an awesome person to play with, those people that grind and then think you're nuts for trying to do actual geopolitics don't deserve you. I hope there's a server/group out there that'll appreciate your work and interests more!
Man, i just agree with you, SMPS just have been leaning into being, really sweaty grindy which i just don’t really enjoy, and the worse problem is that its not just smps/survival is the only thing suffering from this issue
i used to play on a server called hive (the bedrock version of it) two years ago, it was fun and i grinded some games for fun (mainly skywars and survival games) i met a lot of kool people there and such 2 years later, nothing has been changed for much but man, the players reallllyyy did, all i see on skywars lobbies these days are egotistical sweats with the most tryhard skin ever who have the best ping and knows how to drag (also a leaderboard grinder), and when you kill em they will find the most dumb excuse like, ever, it doesn’t even have to make sense, which is just really annoying and frustrating for me, like, do they even enjoy what they are doing, do they even have a life to worry about?
Overall, just, bring back the genuine fun that we all used to have, theres a lot of stuff that caused this issue to happen most notably leaderboards or leveling and such, thanks for joining my little chat here :D

My friends and I were just recently returning to Minecraft. That stuff about imagination is really true cuz once we started our SMP server, we began making flags and full blown towns and cities and elaborate bases. What a beautiful and powerful game I must say.
I Love this message of this video. I love playing minecraft but all my friends are always focused on getting netherite, having the best villager trades, making MASSIVE auto farms. It really ruins the magic of the game. A long time ago, before they did all these auto farms, some of my best memories of the game were made when we decided to make a little town. We had a town hall with mailboxes to send each other messages, we all had our own houses, I had a little restaurant where my friends would trade me resources for a ton of food. It really was what made the game so damn fun.

This is exactly how I feel. Especially during the pandemic, Minecraft was a great way to hang out with your friends. That's all I wanted it to be, just a sandbox where we could shoot the shit, play pranks on each other, go on fun adventures, and build cool houses together. I didn't want to spend ten hours grinding out the best gear. But most of the other people did, and cared more about minmaxing their gear and farms than hanging out with friends.
@@rocketpg_9532 9 months late, but HermitCraft does a good job with having a middle ground with a shopping district. Maybe your servers can implement something like that. They have their own economy and even the farms people make for the shops make people not excited to restock their shops if it is an item a lot of people need.

Part of what changed my Minecraft experience was the sense of discovery you get when you play the game for the first time and everything is still unknown. I have a fond memory of 13 year old me finding an exposed iron ore back in 2012 and trying to mine it by hand because my pickaxe had just broken and I didn't want to bother going home to get another one (which wasn't even far from where I was, to begin with). I was there for a while trying to mine it by hand, thinking "I'm taking this thing with me, I don't care", and was actually so confused when it didn't drop. It's a simple memory, but I miss that exact feeling of not knowing the game, the feeling that made me try to mine iron with my bare hands.
It's my favorite game, it's still a lot of fun, but I miss leaving home and not even knowing what I COULD find, like stumbling upon a jungle or a village for the first time. And that specific feeling made Minecraft the very root of all the nostalgic memories we all so closely cherish nowadays.

this is such a well-made video... correctly worded, with total emotions and emphases on words that needed to be spread, bringing back all the nostalgia of when I was a little kid, scares by the caves soundtrack but yet again blessed with all the music for the game, revisiting childhood memories of roleplay and minigames where me and my friends and brother just had fun. I miss those times and i'm so heartbroken knowing I might not get those memories back. That's why I applaud servers/people like the Dream SMP or those "I tried to make a civilization with 100 people" videos that just brings a smile across my face. Thank you for this once again... i hope the future generations will find minecraft to be just as fun as our generation did.

This is a very good summary. Now that i think about it personally i think i lost that ability to just use my imagination when i got to the point in school that they started graded us. Suddenly i went from a little kid who was a little above average good at multiplication tables to someone who was expected to achieve things at every corner and be judged by a letter that will supposedly define your entire future. I think the pressure really shifted my entire mindset, i suddenly had to be good at things instead of just having fun, i needed to complete everything i did, and complete it efficiently and well. Nowadays i feel guilty playing games if i don't somehow "make progress", which is stupid since i'm supposed to be relaxing. Society and school in particular has somehow drilled this idea of needing to be productive and achieving something constantly so deep into my mind i cant escape it anymore. I wish i could play Minecraft again like i used to, playing pretend with my friends, not worrying about finishing a build or getting an item fast enough that i have time to sleep 6 hours before school and work the day after.
just play beamng slowly build your way back up to a sandbox survival game, its hard to jump into something like that unless you can naturally give yourself direction
This is why I hate schools, they expect you to understand every single thing that they teach you yet it's completely irrelevant and doesn't even help you do things in the real world when you're 18. Seriously no one's going to remember algebra when they're getting coffee at McDonald's
Honestly, I think that what we are suppose to do with our lives is to have fun with everything we *want* to do, but ppl aren't just thinking properly or enough. See, I have this disease called Sickle Cell, type ss and I learned that stress or anything negative really will put me in the hospital, so I'm trying to tone it down as much as possible by doing what I want and trying my hardest to ignore ppl but they just keep hounding on me not realizing that I know what I'm doing even though it LOOKS like I'm not doing a thing. Sure I don't actually want to play games my whole life, but ppl can make tons of money just by doing that. The only reason I want to do more than just play games is because I'm an artist and an animal lover and also, God already has a job for me waiting for me to be ready for it. Unfortunately, nobody listens to me, especially since I'm (probably) the only one actually doing research and experiments on literally everything I encounter >:(
Idk how I'm gonna get them to stop hounding on me about things, but it's not like I can run away either. Not yet at least. If I am going to do anything more than just play games, I have to get rid of this disease first. It's more damaging to me than anybody else I know with it so far and nobody else realizes it. I mean like, everybody that knows, knows the disease or even the trait knows can kill the ppl that have it, they just don't know that it is literally blocking me from doing much of anything and God blocking me from some things as well makes it a lot worse. They just want me to cope with something I know I can't cope with because of the Gods controlling my *almost* every move not to mention this weird random forgetfulness I have doesn't help anything one bit🙄 I forget random things at random times and it is the worst. What makes me even more mad than that is that I can't even think about love when in a school and/or church area but I can feel it, so everything anybody says about love goes over my head >:( I can't even tell anybody that unless we see each other outside of said area and I remember to say it. I'm a lot more stuck than ppl realize and also I just happen to be the Chosen One, the most important person just because I know better than everyone else meaning only I can save y'all stupid @ssess from destroying yourselves even more than you guys already have... Once I find out how to get everyone to listen to me...

I've never had a video resonate with me that much. I felt burned out I love minecraft but I just stopped playing and I play with friends from time to time. It's not that I have no time as I get older. I just lost the part when I had fun, felt like a kid and really used my imagination. Thank you for making this video.

I saw a video a week or so ago talking about why minecraft isn't fun anymore, and that's because it doesn't have the progression that games like Terraria does, with higher levels meaning higher level bosses. but it's just not that kind of game, it's one where exploration and building and using your imagination are the important parts, not trying to constantly grind to defeat the next boss. felt like that person just missed the forest for the trees, missed the bigger picture of what minecraft is supposed to be about--and I think you got it in one
I agree, like, you want more bosses or a better progression system, well play something else, that's not what Minecraft's about, it never was.
Progression has been slowly integrated over the years, just not to the satisfaction of some. I remember when there was almost zero progression, now there's Elytra, shulker boxes, guardians, raids, beacons, armor trims, the warden (I built a warden farm to kill him over and over again, which was quite satisfying), nether bastions, etc. etc.
But yeah, the structured progression isn't present so you have to form your own checklists to add that value to it. I have a minecraft progress checklist that I drafted up and after several months on a server I'm still no where near to completing my checklist. My checklist revolves around base building, map art creation, redstone contraptions, automated farms, finding every rare item, armor trim collection, etc. So right now I'm in my "end game" which funnily enough is LONG after I've gone to The End. The End was actually part of my early game. Killing the Ender Dragon was like my Act 1 boss level.
Currently, I'm progressing through my third nether run, building gold farms, bartering farms, wither skeleton skull farms, and collecting all the armor trims. I'm kind of annoyed because I've raided 8 bastions but I've only found 1 nether fortress and it didn't have Rib so I'm just flying around looking for another fortress. (I can't use chunk base because our server's seed is hidden, which adds so much more mystery and excitement to the game tbh.)
@@fartkerson I have my own checklist as well, and I procrastinated on a wither skeleton farm for a long time. Ianxofour’s design was actually quite easy to make, and for a simple guy like myself, is more than capable. Combined with his wither rose farm, it makes a great pairing
@@fartkerson I usually like just exploring as well, but occasionally I’ll use the seed, just to find that one elusive biome, just for the achievement. Sure, it’s cheating, but I could spend stacks upon stacks upon stacks of rockets searching for just one island, and it’s not worth the time to me
@@samschellhase8831 Like I said, it's not that I haven't used chunk base for simplicity, but the server I play in hides its seed. I just play on servers for the challenge. Simply playing on an anarchy no hacks server itself adds extra time to everything you do. Spawn is a nightmare for thousands of blocks, so the first couple hours are a challenging parkour journey filled with withers and players hunting you down as you enter spawn. There's also nothing of use in sight, so you are basically running naked with no tools until you get to safety. It's a different experience. Not for everyone. It's just what I've found is fun after having done everything. I find it gratifying to have escaped the spawn and then traveled out half a million blocks to create a kingdom on a server filled with griefers.
This actually hits home, very hard. I suddenly decided that i wanna be a mage and play the game 100% magic only, downloaded a shit ton of random stuff and only use the spellbook from Ars Nouveau... sucks major ass at the beginning but its quite fun after you get going lmao
I love playing the game at a slow pace.. keeps you occupied😌, enjoying the music and remembering the memories
I remember in 2016, me, my friend and my cousin roleplaying in a large town we built, we had our houses, our workplaces, the world full of different places and easter eggs, I came back this year and the nostalgia hit me soooo hard, there was everything there, we sure weren't great builders as kids but it's still more beautiful than any other world.

As someone who loves Minecraft but is conventionally bad at the game, I was never able to beat the dragon or get netherite, so making my own little stories is all I've ever been able to do. And when it's been with friends, it's been some of the best gaming experiences of my life.
Well actually I Beat Enderdragon just 1 time I always get diamond armor I'm scared of nether but still I found fortress like 5 times (some are with cheats) but I made houses castles from TH-cam I love building but I suck at it also still I feel like I'm doing something that no one can do
The last part is what got me the most. 12 years playing Minecraft and i have never encountered the ender dragon, not even in creative

This is how I'm keeping my old world fresh. I've built an underwater castle on a guardian farm and am now building a town around it. Whenever I get stuck I ask what do the people do when they are sick, how do they travel, where do they shop, what do they do with their garbage, etc... It quickly gives me a little boost for that next project and keeps me having fun.
its crazy how you had such a similar experience to me. i live in the middle of no where, but i was homeschooled so i never could even make any friends irl. literally started having my first "relationships" when i was like 10-11 on like these small smp servers that i found off of youtube where like 10-15 people played a day, not to mention my phase of applying for staff on a lot of servers too just like you. man its so nostalgic, im 18 now.

I have been into building entire kingdoms with lore and everything in recent years and I've never had more fun. Minecraft really is my comfort game!
For my most recent world I've downgraded the game back to Beta 1.7.3 and have just been chillin. There's no End, Elytra, or anything like that so I can just build without feeling like I need to go "grind for the best gear." I've just been working on building a little village and its all very relaxing and peaceful!😌

This was such a sweet love letter to Minecraft, thank you for sharing your experience!!! Serves as a great reminder of why we all loved the early versions of the game, and of all the things we can do. I've been a little stuck on some larger projects in my main world for a while, and recently decided to create a new world. Went out and found a really cool bit of terrain, a few structures, and openings where I could add my own! I'm sure I will go back to my main world and probably bounce back and forth, but it's nice to have a break from staring down things I haven't yet completed.

I totally relate to how you feel about Minecraft. I've been playing since it first came out on PC. I even played the PC beta for crying out loud. My childhood friends question why I'm still playing Minecraft in the present days. Honestly, Minecraft has helped me get through some dark times. I've played it when I was sick, depressed, anxious and bored. No matter what, I always had an idea that I wanted to bring to life in Minecraft. A full year of play time in and multiple worlds adventured, it will always be my favorite game.
In my last world, I play with a no mining rule. Dude, Villagers make you the king of traders. They have everything you need. That's amazing. I got bored from mining. That was the reason I wasn't playing the game. Now, everything is pure new. I keep learning new stuff everyday. I started playing in 2009.
this is the only video out of all those "why you feel bored of minecraft" that actually helped me, and started my yearly 1 week(or will it be longer this time?) minecraft run in this year. the only one. thank you.

One thing I struggle with is that I always feel like I need to get the best of everything before I can start focusing on just building and such. And by the time I have that Prot. IV Netherite Armor, I've done so much grinding that I'm just tired, and feel so uninspired to continue, even though at that point I've done all the most boring parts.

For me the problem is that i LOVE grinding and getting the best gear. But the game is too easy
I am super competitive and love difficult games and constantly getting better and better but elytras and chulkerboxes make the game insanely easy…. Thats why hardcore appeals to me, but even in hardcore i dont go past the enderdragon because elytras are just so fucking busted
@@axelbrackeniers5488 I never felt like Shulkerboxes and Elytra make the game any easier really, they're only just time-savers. But for someone like you, I might recommend maybe getting into speedrunning the game? That's a much more grindy way to play and it's super competitive.
I was already more or less on board with the main message of the video. MC is an endless, sandbox game, after all. The main issue I run into is that I sometimes bite off more than I can chew with crazy ambitious projects, and get burned out trying to finish them. And that doesn't even begin to cover how demotivated I can get when the game gets updated, or I find a new mod, and there's no easy way to incorporate the mod or update into existing worlds without breaking some things.
If you don't finish a project, don't worry about it, its the building of it that is the fun part. It's not like you're building a highway in real life and people are waiting for you to complete it to reduce traffic 😂 Minecraft building is art and good artists will tell you its all about the journey not the finished product. So don't put yourself under so much pressure. Play the game like a kid would, be ambitious sure, but don't let it burn you out. Take a break from the build. You can always come back to it years later even to finish it or just leave it as a ruin in your world. Ruins are important too!
Like drewid said, minecraft builds are a kind of art. I can't say just how many worlds/builds/stories/drawings I've given up on. And sometimes, those ghosts are a nice addition to the collection of finished pieces, little notes and pieces of something that couldve been. I get burnt out building big things too, don't worry about WIPs getting chucked out the window
This is why I love playing modded minecraft. It's been two years since I started a modded survival world and while I get burnout sometimes from building all my contraptions and the likes but I still play it when I get the time. You're right in the imagination thing cause I've got this whole lore set up for my build. A whole sci-fi underground labratory akin to Black Mesa and so on.
I love that!! Personally I like to interconnect multiple worlds across all forms of the game with lore, its been amazing to just have so many details and characters to keep track of, and tie together!
I just wish mods kept pace with minecraft versions, instead of half the mods being stuck in prehistory, and most of the rest in the stone age. I want my fancy cave generation and other neat features!
@@tylisirn if I recall, there is a way to "backport" the mods into newer versions but I'm too sure how it works. A friend of mine set up a minecraft server with a modpack from curseforge back in 2021 when 1.17 was released and it contained the Aether in it which has not been updated to newer versions yet.
