Superman 78' was a fish out of water tale. Lois constantly clowns on his "Gee Golly Wiz" dialogue, and New York/Metropolis is a culture shock coming from Kansas. That film still holds up all by following the source material. Hopefully the 2025 version restores some much needed hope.
If Tom Hardy fights a version of Spider-Man i'd like it to be Garfield. He's the only one who hasn't fought an alien yet and he wanted to.Their ages are closer together too than Holland
What I have noticed when it comes to the amount of characters that is going to be in the Superman movie is the fact that we don't even know what the run time is going to look like. If the runtime turns out to be around 2hrs and 20 to 30 minutes long where it's paced right, the movie should be fine.
But Gunn's Superman film has The Authority, which as was pointed out, inherently dark. And from his Suicide Squad film, and Peacemaker series, clearly the guy isn't going to get rid of the dark completely.
And some more: Eagly, Cosmo, Sebastian The Rat (even king shark if we want to be thorough), almost always the animal/anthromorph are the best parts of his filmography
Krypto's inclusion is great and he looks great. Introducing him in Superman makes sense considering he plays a pivotal part in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow story they're adapting, which has fairly serious and even dark themes, btw. Getting audiences to care about him as a character prior to that storyline is pretty clever.
My favorite MCU and DC films have all been by him, so I'm gonna reserve my judgements on James Gunn's creative direction until the projects are out. As for Krypto, on paper Eagly in _Peacemaker_ sounds ridiculous but it works-Hell, most of _Peacemaker_ sounds ridiculous on paper, but the show is an R-rated heart warming blast.
Always a great discussion between the three of you guys. The someone who was in High school when the Snyder Era of DC was happening I can personally attest to us kids not being into the edgy version of Superman and Batman. I grew up a DC kid reading killing joke and Hush so yeah DC should be dark but it just went way too far on top of not being written very well. (Yes, even 16 year olds hated the Martha scene)

"How do you make Krypto work"-John John, this is the same director who made the world fall in love with a talking Raccon and Talking tree. Like to even doubt James Gunn regarding animals in a movie is crazy thinking.
The whole discourse around kyrpto and the movie in general just shows me that folks really dont know superman for real outside of the snyderverse or his depiction in the injustice games people want kal el to be more like homelander or omni man smh 😂.
As a guy who grew up with Superman from 1978 when you weren't even born yet, I'm confused at how you can make a comment like that. The real issues is that we've had DECADES UPON DECADES of the big Blue Boy Scout version of Superman. Snyder's version was not dark. The film had a dark look, but Superman was not dark. Injustice is a video game so that doesn't count to me. But those two versions are unique so people wanted more of that because, as I said, we've had DECADES of the midwestern farm boy always doing the right thing.
@SeriousBlack1026 Most of this "discourse" and "backlash" is pretty miniscule tbh. We are in a specific section of DC Internet (X) where everything is an argument. Generally most people are excited for Krypto, similar thing happened with the Aaron Pierre casting, different complaints obviously, but it was a very minor section that were spreading the negativity
It’s funny a movie like Barbie can have 50 characters basically Al name Barbie and Ken. But in a Superman movie how dare they have different characters just because some are superhero’s
Maybe Gunn should just include some traditional Superman side characters only to shoot them in the face within 5 minutes of appearing on screen. Maybe that would make these people happy.
Seriously, The Electric State could not look further from the tone and content of what is a very melancholy and moody artbook. I'd really, really recommend anyone read that book. I mean even give the artwork and story a google and tell me this looks like a worthy adaption. I don't think the robots are even really a thing in the book as they are drones rather than AIs. It's more about people losing themselves to technology and virtual reality. One thing I remember about Mark Strong is that when he was on Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo's movie review show on Radio 5 he said some actors get an 'And' credit but he should he get a 'But Mark Strong' :)
The only thing I'm worried about with Dune Prophecy is it's based on a novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson and they're Executive Producers on the show. I've read all of Frank Herbert's books multiple times, starting when I was in junior high; I was excited in 1999 when they said Brian was going to finish the seventh book, which was in progress when Frank died in 1986, but then he and Kevin wrote like 17 volumes of YA garbage before getting to it. (In their defense, I only got through 1.5 of their books before writing them off; maybe in the fullness of time they improved.)
I have read Dune and wasn't a fan but gave the movies a chance but didn't work for me and found the ending done better in the books, not interested in Dune: Prophecy.
It’s funny isn’t it that there can be no definitive vision of superman. The character has evolved and changed so many times in almost 100 years. I feel John Byrne is my ultimate classic “this is what superman is” but I’m sure others have their own. I’ve never seen my version of superman done properly and I feel I never will
So about the contracts, what Elizabeth said isn't wrong. Although she didn't say it because of Dr Strange 2, but it was because while she was in several Marvel projects she couldn't do other more serious roles. Now, this isn't always possible, Tom Cruise making a contract is not the same as a type B or C actor, for example Chris Evan could not have done that when he made Cap 1, but What they should do is make contracts with a certain freedom to do other projects. Look at simu liu or chirs Hemsworth and his career after shag chi and thor 4.

I love The Electric State. The trailer for the Netflix adaptation looks so entirely divorced from the original Simon Stålenhag artwork. Despite some of the designs being 1 to 1 copies, they've managed to lose the entire mood of the art book. All the depression and forlorn sadness is absent here. Simon Stålenhag's name wasn't even mentioned in the trailer, which is simultaneously infuriating but also maybe for the best? Tales From the Loop wasn't the best series ever made, but it managed to capture all the things Electric State is missing, but it didn't have Chris Pratt playing himself for the 50th time and it didn't ask me to watch Millie Bobby Brown attempt to act.
From the moment they dropped the first Superman poster, I was just like, "Whatever...". I was never a Superman girlie growing up. Like my mom would watch the Christopher Reeves movies when I was kid, but I never took to the character or the movies like I did with Batman (LOVE Batman). I did however love Cavill as Superman and wished he'd got a fair chance to really do the character justice because I thought he was great. I don't think I really loved a single movie from the Synderverse films (except his cut of JL), but I enjoyed them enough. But there is definitely something about these drops Gunn is doing for this new film that has me completely uninterested. I hated the logo. I hated the first poster, the suit fitting, and this Krypto poster was just there. I guess I'm just not drawn to the goodie two shoes boy scout style of heroing. Regardless, I'll still check it out when it drops because it's James Gunn.
Same as James Gunn. Writers/Directors if not managed carefully will get in their own way. After 300 and Watchmen WB thought Snyder is perfect. After Guardians WB thinks Gunn is perfect. We need a producer

I agree with Rocha about thw amount of characters in Superman. For me I'm waiting to see how Gunn will make Superman the focus when you have so many people in this film.
i must say Russo brothers have had nothing but mediocre movies outside of MCU , kind of supports my theory that MCU relies on crossover appeal and not originality in any way or they would have had some sort of success post Marvel ! And thats why they are back with Feige, they can smell the checks run dry
There was no darkness in Deadpool 3, or Venom, or Tom Holland Spiderman outside of aunt May dying, and those movies worked for their crowd. Why does Superman have to be Dark? He's not Batman... 😅
@@sreyangovender3404 I agree with you, I personally disliked all the Venom movies, but all of made over $700 million each. So clearly they worked for their target audience... 👌🏾
Wait....Wolverine caused the death of his world, witnessed the death of his friends and is deeply tortured by it. Wade is about to lose his entire friends and family if he doesn't stop that TVA guy. Johnny Storm has his skin ripped off his body and dies. And Cassandra Nova probes the minds of the people she captures with her fingers violating their thoughts against their will basically raping their minds. But you want to tell me that this film wasn't fucking dark????? Are you kidding me???? LOL
I hear you Mr Rocha, and I agree that those things you mention were indeed in the movie. However, we never got to see Wolverine lose his friends, and there were themes of death the entire movie sure... But All these deaths were done in a light-hearted, humourous tone - just like the deaths in Thor Love And Thunder. Having deaths or themes of death, does not make a movie "dark". Thor Love And Thunder spoke about cancer, which is a dark topic, but it was handled in a humourous way💁🏾♂️. Venom eats people, but it is handled in a light-hearted manner, to further prove my point. So, I say that not everything has to be dark and gritty for people to enjoy especially not the hopefully Superman. 👌🏾@@JohnRochaSays

I'm with Vogel, Zack Snyder should never have the rains of DCEU in the first place
Blasphemous!
Same as James Gunn. Writers/Directors if not managed carefully will get in their own way. After 300 and Watchmen WB thought Snyder is perfect. After Guardians WB thinks Gunn is perfect. We need a producer
@@TK_Brainslug Reins not Rains. 😏
@@gohanson27 300 was crap and Watchmen was mediocre as hell. Snyder is a hack.
@@gohanson27 Peter Safran, the other Co-CEO and chairperson of DC Studios is a producer.
Vogel…. Do u not understand that Batman is human and doesn’t have superpower
Vogel understands this takes place 1-2 weeks after the Batman
BATMAN GOT SHOT BY A POINT BLANK SHOTGUN SHOT HE DEF HAS BROKEN RIBS AND IS RECOVERING
And them looking at the USA?!? Truth Justice and the American Way yall….
if I see certain characters turn into a bucket of water or a bicycle im done.
Yeah Krypto.... so that's 20 or 30 million the movie wont make.
I agree with Rocha about thw amount of characters in Superman. For me I'm waiting to see how Gunn will make Superman the focus when you have so many people in this film.
@el_covfefe Well in all the leaked set photos and images Superman is always there present so here's hoping 🤞🏻
i must say Russo brothers have had nothing but mediocre movies outside of MCU , kind of supports my theory that MCU relies on crossover appeal and not originality in any way or they would have had some sort of success post Marvel ! And thats why they are back with Feige, they can smell the checks run dry
😮Appreciate what y'all do but y'all beat that damn joke into the ground 🤦🏿♂️
There was no darkness in Deadpool 3, or Venom, or Tom Holland Spiderman outside of aunt May dying, and those movies worked for their crowd. Why does Superman have to be Dark? He's not Batman... 😅
Venom was diabolically bad 👎
LOL
@@JohnRochaSays Right?
I think perhaps time stamps might be a nice addition to your episodes. It makes it easy to skip spoilery stuff.
Time stamps have been on there since I posted it. I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe look in the description for the time codes so you see what we're talking about.
@@JohnRochaSaysWeird. When I looked there weren’t any there, hence my comment. Hmmm. It’s all good in the neighborhood, hermano.
