I would like to add for safety that the load should be partially lifted at least few inches then stop to check the holding brake, if found working, lift a little bit higher say 12 inches then stop again then bring it down for few inches and stop again. This way we can check the holding brake and control brake.

the first thing you do when you get the pendent control in your hands is......with the power "off" (E-stop) push all the buttons one at a time to make sure all the buttons are free and return to the neutral posittion

When buying a new overhead bridge crane system, its important that a small safety seminar like this to help the owner and their employees to work in a safe environment.

FYI, it's safer practice to stand on the hinge side of the door when engaging an MCC, or power switch. As you gestured, if there is an arc blast the door will swing away from you. In that event your body will bear the brunt of the blast, the heat, and molten metals. By standing on the hinged side of the door, when the door is flung open and around it is between you and the blast; effectively a blast shield activated by the arc blast itself. It's just a safer position.
