    The reason Paul's mother seems a bit unhinged after drinking the blue poison, is because she was trained how to transform poison into something safe, but she was NOT trained to deal with having hundreds of generations of other women's memories dumped into her mind all at once. That takes years of experience and intense training, and she wasn't ready yet. But, there was no other practical choice.
    That's also why all the others freaked out when they realized she's pregnant...because the baby just got the same memory dump, but has obviously had NO training at all. Which is, just as obviously, wildly fucking dangerous in a huge number of ways.

    That sound at the beginning is a language... its the language of the saurdukar, the emperor's army

  • @DoremiFasolatido1979
    @DoremiFasolatido1979 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Honestly...there's a lot of inconsistency in the idea of the Emperor's attitude toward the Atreides, but then having them exterminated, all while claiming that he's somehow a kind of mastermind for it.
    Spice (or anything else) doesn't actually grant true immortality in Dune. The closest anyone gets are the Tleilaxu Gholas (basically a type of clone), which can be made very accurately, even with memories in some cases.
    But the fact is, everyone eventually dies, and Shaddam IV, (Chris Walken) is very much nearing the end of his life. He has no sons, and his daughters can't actually be Empress. It's a patriarchal system. No matter what, he was always going to have to marry them off to other Great Houses, and then choose one of their husbands to be his successor. Or...adopt some boy and choose him as the successor.
    No matter what though, the next Emperor was never going to be a Corrino. Period. BUT, the Corrino line would continue on, through one of his daughters and her husband, so that the Emperor AFTER that husband WOULD be a Corrino, and the dynasty would continue.
    I doubt a Ghola of Shaddam would've been allowed to rule, partly because Gholas aren't considered people, as I understand it, and because then it would get way too close to stepping on the toes of Foundation and its Genetic Dynasty of Cleon.
    So...why in the nine fucks, if Shaddam loved Leto so much, and the Atreides were rising to power so thoroughly, didn't he just offer one of his daughters to Leto? Shaddam mentions that Leto was "weak," but even then, he could've just chosen Paul instead, and given him Irulan. Paul could've gone to live in the palace and learned to rule from Shaddam himself...while Leto rules Arrakis and is basically permanently under Shaddam's thumb because he's holding Paul hostage. The emperor would've had a full grip on Arrakis, a strong heir to take his place, and would've enjoyed considerable boosts to his own popularity among the Landsraad.
    Atreides troops, pound for pound, are second only to the Fremen. Even the Sardaukar can only match them, at most. In any 1v1 fight, the average Atreides soldier beats the average Sardaukar. The Harkonnens won the fight only because of surprise, numbers (because of the Sardaukar), and sheer brutality. In any balanced battle otherwise, they lost, every time.
    Shaddam's plan as it is, doesn't actually get him anything. He's not gonna let Feyd be Emperor, because he'd destroy the empire in no time. The Landsraad would immediately rebel at the announcement...because they know how Feyd would rule. None of the other houses would be able to cement power as thoroughly, because none of them have the kind of power that the Atreides or Harkonnen have. Maybe Vernius of Ix could compete, but their popularity doesn't match their power. No one really loves them, and no one really fears them...and they're constantly skating on thin ice because of how they play fast and loose with the prohibition against AI.
    With the plan in the book...Shaddam really gains absolutely nothing at all of practical value.
    While, with the plan I proposed...he'd gain everything he's after, with less effort, less risk, and more security.
    Honestly, it's just mind-bogglingly stupid.

    • @pseudonymousbeing987
      @pseudonymousbeing987 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The imperial family would then be Atreides. The Corrino name would not be used again. Or the Atreides could easily just overrule any attempt to instate it on their sons.
      Shadam is selfish. He's not all that old at all either, geriatric spice means he still has at least twice as much life left to live. He's physically 35. He preserves his throne for himself for the time being. He may yet have sons.
      As for Leto, Shadam explicitly wishes he could have married Irulan to him. But there are two issues, he's quite old for her, but this wouldn't be a big issue. The real problem is Leto had a son at the same time Irulan was born. This is a catastrophic threat. Leto's marriage to Irulan would never replace his true love that all know to be Jessica, for she holds the title of Lady. So his loyalties would always be elsewhere. Furthermore his first born son would always take precedent for him. He is not considered illegitimate.
      Finally, the Harkonnens. They have no part in his plans. His goal was to wipe out the Atreides and the threat of them unifying the Landsraad against him. As I have explained he cannot truly make an alliance with them, and he certainly cannot let them overpower him (btw only a few legions trained by Duncan and Gurney where "within a hairs width ofnthr Sardaukar" so not even quite as good, nor numerous). His other goal was actually also to bankrupt the Harkonnens. It took them the entirety of 80 years of profit to finance their single attack on the Atreides. They have nothing left. Their power is gone. They suckle on the Emperor's teat by receiving Arrakis, and will need to be obedient for centuries to regain the wealth thus power to challenge his wealth again. Furthermore, they would need even more wealth to challenge him and his Sardaukar in battle.

      @DoremiFasolatido1979 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pseudonymousbeing987 Goddamn I hate fuckin' fanboys...
      Firstly...that's not how succession works, especially in a patrimonial hereditary system. Had Shaddam done what I suggested, Paul would've taken the Corrino name, not the other way around. Shaddam would functionally "adopt" him as he married Irulan, and the Corrino line would live on through their children.
      The only times where that's not the case, are basically what Paul ultimately did in the book anyway.
      Yes...Shaddam is selfish. But he's not supposed to be fucking retarded. There's no way out of his predicament. He's GOING to die, and he MUST choose an heir, since he has no sons for the purpose. If he had an OUNCE of fucking brains, he'd pick Paul as the ideal option. He can dislike it all he wants, but if he's even slightly intelligent, it's obvious to do it that way.
      It could be that the Guild and BG manipulated him into that (and to some extent, they did), but all that really means is that the Guild and BG are even bigger fucking morons. They ruined their careful breeding program with the shit.
      Which...leads me to another concern...why Paul at all? Fine, Leto wanted a son and Jessica thought she could bring the KH about now. But so fuckin' what? BG sisters can control if they get pregnant, and with what. She could've had a girl or two for the Order, and then had Paul for her own reasons. Or the other way around. Why wait a decade and a half to finally have a girl? Fuck...she could've had fraternal twins for crying out loud. It's goddamn stupid. It's so illogical that it's fucking painful.
      Your grasp of politics is simplistic at best, and deranged at worst.
