Good demo and explanation! Thanks. That's more helpful than just showing off. Considering picking up a used DD5. This was helpful.

There was a saying that dd5 was discontinued quickly because it was a failure that made it high-performance but had poor basic functions. Is this true?

Not sure. I had 2 of them back in the day and they worked flawlessly...

Thanks for the lesson on the Delay pedal. I have an orange Delay pedal with level, gain, delay and compression. I'm not really sure what compression is. Actually I have been trying to sound like David Gilmour. It's difficult....no reverb or phaser. Not sure what phaser ? Probably spealt that wrong. Anyways Thanks for the lesson.

Hi Robert. Compression is a dynamic based effect that is used to smooth out peaks in a signal and then typically used to make the overall sound louder but the more your compress, the more the dynamics of the playing are lost. Gilmour phaser - I think he used an original Univox Univibe which you will prob not be able to find. Electro-Harmonix Small Clone is great phaser not a million miles away. The pedal you mention doesn't sound like a delay pedal - perhaps more of a feedback based pedal...?

Hi Gary. Thanks for posting an answer to my question. I have an orange DOD pedal Compressor Sustainer. and I believe the model number is FX BO B? It has 3 setting (Dials) Level Release Compressor. I don't know if I can use this pedal? I have learnt tp play (not very good) 3 songs from David Gilmour. Money, Time and Comfortably Numb. I know Gilmour loves to bend the strings, so I was thinking that perhaps this pedal may help with that effect? I'm also wondering what the settings would be for the pedal? I don't have a phaser, nor Reverb. I have a basic 10 watt Dean Markley Tube amp with Level 1/4, Gain, 3/4, Treble 1/2, and 1/2 Bass. If you have any feedback, I'd appreciate it. Take care. Robert

You can certainly use that to add compression to your signal. It will smooth out the signal a bit and potentially improve your tone. It's a fairly common pedal to have in a chain. It would help sustain bends and if you use a big reverb and phaser you will enter into the Gilmour zone. Setting wise, the higher the compression dial the more the dynamics are taken out of your playing meaning every note is the same loudness. Level is just overall volume. Release is how quickly or slowly the compressor will stop acting on the signal as the signal decreases in volume. Try setting release at 12 o clock and say level at 3 o clock. Do a bend with compression all the way off, at 12 o clock and then all the way on. See if you can hear a difference in the sound. Do this again with the release all the way off and then all the way on. Again, see if you can hear the differences in sound. See what you like and see what suits your playing.

Great video! I just picked up a dd5 and am having difficulties dialing in the right amount. I basically am trying to get a nice uniform delay for solos. Any help on settings would be great. Thank you.

I had the same issue when i bought it new i'm subtle w/delay on lead work mostly, I just ordered the Waza Boss Delay Analog up to 800ms w/two outputs & jack to change tempo or make special FX echoplexish sounds can't wait to use it, the DD-5 don't work as well into a combo i got no fx loop so analog delay should sound much better i hope.
