Felix probably tasting the rice when he said sweet. You kinda just block out the flavor of rice if you eat it too much, which is the case in most Asian. I did remove rice in my diet for a month and after being advised to up my carb intake, I ate rice and it tasted sweeter than before.

One thing that always shocks me about these videos is people talking about how expensive stuff is in Japan. The eel being 715 yen was shocking to them, but like in America in Medium COL area (for food at least), it's $7 for 2 Salmon nigiri, and $8 for 2 eel nigiri. Its so crazy how much cheaper stuff seems in Japan.

i had eggs almost everyday as a kid. you know how parents will buy you a bunch of something when they find out you love it, yeah. that was me with my grandma, she would always make me soft boiled eggs for breakfast and put soy sauce over them. she would also fry eggs for me when there weren't any side dishes for me to eat rice with. i started to feel "meh" about eggs but my grandma passed away a few months ago and whenever i cook eggs for myself, im always reminded of her.
Even if you hate some fish I strongly recommend you give another chance at different restaurants. It depends on freshness, aging, fat content and season.
Sushi is the only food I was able to keep eating no matter how full or sick I'd feel. Honestly, I think it's a blessing that it's expensive in my country. If it was cheap...I'd eat it at every meal. Also, I think Felix finds everything to be sweeter because if you don't eat sugar/ junk food regularly, everything tastes a bit sweeter. It naturally does. But your taste buds get used to the artificial sweeteners and natural sweetness just loses flavor.
I think they also genuinely forgot the word "savory" exists and had no other way to describe it. I don't think they ever used savory throughout the video and that is the first word I would use to describe sushi.

Being nutritionally unbalanced is more due to eating it every meal, rather than sushi itself being particularly unhealthy. Sushi is the only food I was able to keep eating no matter how full or sick I'd feel. Honestly, I think it's a blessing that it's expensive in my country. If it was cheap...I'd eat it at every meal.
Also, I think Felix finds everything to be sweeter because if you don't eat sugar/ junk food regularly, everything tastes a bit sweeter. It naturally does. But your taste buds get used to the artificial sweeteners and natural sweetness just loses flavor.
Byt sushi is super healthy so i feel like eating it every meal would only be a good thing.
I think they also genuinely forgot the word "savory" exists and had no other way to describe it. I don't think they ever used savory throughout the video and that is the first word I would use to describe sushi.

@@calebwee328 Well, it is reasonably healthy, other than the parasite risk if the fish is mishandled. As healthy as fish normally is, anyway. Being nutritionally unbalanced is more due to eating it every meal, rather than sushi itself being particularly unhealthy. Maybe that's what you meant, but the way your comment reads makes it unclear.
@@calebwee328 sushi is incredibly healthy. Youre just wrong. A food doesnt have to be all of the nutrients you need in your life to be healthy, thats not even an argument. Broccoli is a healthy food and you cant live off of just broccoli. But you actually can live off of just sushi if you get a variety of types of sushi.

Many sushi served outside of Japan are far removed from real sushi.

The absolute top of the prize-to-cost ratio pyramid has to be the salmon nigiri with mayo and onion. It seems like a completely idiotic combination, but it just works so ridiculously well. I'm shocked I've never seen it at any sushi joints outside of Japan since it's so common here.

This was interesting. It’s also a good experiment in how we interpret flavours differently. I wouldn’t be surprised if either Joey or Felix have the Coriander Soap Gene or the Kiwi Battery Gene where balance of savoury and bitterness are off compared to others.
