Advice, that if a member in your household gets it first, don't eat anything for 2-3 days, then you won't vomit, because eating meals + sugar you're feeding the bug. The last time it was in our household I was the last to get it and the symptoms only lasted 20 minutes without vomiting because I followed this method.

not eating does not "starve the virus"-it is nonliving and instead it spreads by hijacking the genetic material of your gastrointestinal tissues to produce copies of it (frequently damaging the cells in the process). Typically when people in your house are sick, the way you will become infected is by consuming the virus through contaminated food/dishes/putting your hands in your mouth. If norovirus is going around your house you should wash your hands frequently (keep in mind hand sanitizers are not capable of destroying the virus), avoid eating with your hands or putting your hands in your mouth (AT ALL, even if you just washed your hands), sanitize dishes thoroughly OR use disposable dishes that ill people have not come in contact with, and avoid consuming anything a sick person in your family has prepared or touched. Use a bleach solution to sanitize as it is one of the few disinfectants capable of destroying the virus's capsid. Eating enough will help you fight the virus if you do become infected.

@Mr. Shiny Right, I'm no doctor or anything but I learnt it from my last experience. I was fine all day, then 30 minutes after i drank some lemonade I threw up and was sick for a whole day.

Lost a week of my life to Norovirus after visiting a hospital for work where there was an outbreak.
I was prepared to embrace the sweet sweet relief of death.

I’m just barley over getting sick with one of the worst bouts of stomach flu I’ve ever had..at times the pain has been more intense and excruciating than when my appendix almost burst. (Sometimes vomiting from the insane, dizzying, cramping pain alone) This is no joke & people should take real caution against contracting this nasty little bug.

I caught it visiting my Grandad in hospital this week. I have never felt so ill in my entire life. I couldn’t move from my bed and just vomited my guts up every 20 minutes for about 24 hours. I’m just starting to feel better after about 36 hours but it has been hell.

So, after you and your household members have norovirus at the same time and are all starting to recover, is it possible to reinfect each other again with the germs you have while being sick? Or once you've recovered can you not catch it again from the same people?

I have a question I had a virus when I threw up like 20 times and a little bit of diarrhea was it norovirus, rotavirus, astrovirus, or food poisoning?

    • @TheBadbucky

Norovirus is a foodborne illness. Probably noro.

hand sanitisers do not work! ...and when hands are washed, [in public place] then tap still needs turning off....germs on it and the doorknob...yuuuk.

I agree. I always use a paper towel to turn off the tap and open doors in public restrooms. I greatly appreciate automatic sinks and restrooms that don't have doors (they still have stalls of course).
