x^2+1/x^2+2=2
then x^2+1/x^2=0, x^4=-1
then x^2021=x*x^2020=x*(-1)^505=-x
then x^2021+1/x^2021=-x-1/x=-(x+1/x)=-sqrt(2)

Another way to see that x^4 = -1 is to find the complex roots cis45 and cis(-45). In this case it "works".
