      I make it quite often, but what they showed is not creamed eggs. Really, it's made by hard boiling eggs, blending the yolks with a creamy butter/flour/milk sauce, and adding the chopped up whites. Kinda like mashed up deviled eggs. Very good hot on toast.

    In Vietnam, at any Pho place, you can call a half cooked egg in broth. Basically, they crack an egg straight into boiling water and wait about 10 seconds, and then scoops it out in to a broth. It looks like a poached egg but extremely translucent. It’s called trứng trần, which basically translates to “naked egg”. I swear, it is SOOOO GOOD. Especially with onion slices. A way to eat it is to scoop up the yolk gently, and put it into your mouth, then pop it with your tongue. It’ll explode in your mouth and it’s warm and eggy, and I’m just, in love. The white is also good with the broth. Enough with my rant :).

    Eggnog - Britain... what??! I have never had eggnog before and don't know of anyone else from Britain who has. I've only ever seen it related to the USA

    • @CosmeticGirl15
      @CosmeticGirl15 9 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Exactly what I was thinking! Eggnog is 100% an American thing because I've never had eggnog before, neither has anyone I know and I never see it being sold anywhere. Pretty sure most people in the UK don't even know what eggnog is (such as myself).

    • @Rdsxfn17
      @Rdsxfn17 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Eggnog is 100% american. When I was abroad during the fall semester I tried to find eggnog in Italy, Netherlands, Czech Republic... never found it. Thought England would have it. I asked some workers in a grocery store and they had no idea what it was.

    • @alexxx373
      @alexxx373 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      ***** There are some who believe that its origin is from Britain or Europe but there is no hard evidence to support most of these claims. They end up stating that eggnog is derived from other similar drinks such as the medieval drink Posset - but little Eggnog history. Regardless of the past, eggnog is not drunk in Britain today like this video suggests. (Also, Eggflip is not a thing drunk in Britain either, even if Wikipedia tells you so)

    • @csands358
      @csands358 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's common in the U.S., but the creamed egg on toast (listed as American) isn't. I've never heard of it. As for whether eggnog's alcoholic or not, it's usually sold in stores without alcohol but then mixed with rum with a dash of nutmeg sprinkled on top. Very common Christmas party drink. In the U.S. eggnog's widespread enough that there is even eggnog ice cream from some brands.

      The Toasted Hawk Basically I cut an english muffin in half and toast it. While it's toasting, I cook two eggs over easy in a skillet on the stove (you start the egg like it's sunny side up, but then you flip it over and cook the yolk too). I also pan fry two slices of tomato in the same pan. Once the english muffins are done toasting, I turn off the stove, put 1 tomato slice and 1 egg on each muffin, season with salt and pepper, and then I'm done :)

      Eggnog may have originated in East Anglia, England; or it may have simply developed from posset, a medieval European beverage made with hot milk; eggs were added to some posset recipes. The "nog" part of its name may stem from the word noggin, a Middle English term for a small, carved wooden mug used to serve alcohol.

    I'd say that scrambled eggs are more of a British thing.

    People also ask
    Where did creamed eggs on toast originate?
    Creamed eggs on toast is a traditional American dish that pairs eggs with white sauce over a piece of toast. Said to have its roots back in the Depression era, this dish typically consists of toasted slices of bread that are topped with a mixture of a creamy white sauce and chopped hard-boiled eggs
    Yep, never heard of them before either.

    "Uitsmijter" does not translate to "To throw out". The word "Uitsmijter" is used to describe three things: 1) the meal, with eggs, 2) the final song of a concert and 3) a bouncer at a club or café. Oh and as far as the dish is concerned; we don't eat it with a spoon and the bread pictured in the video looks like it's toasted but it shouldn't be.

    • @Smallpotato1965
      @Smallpotato1965 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. And the eggdish is called an 'bouncer' because back in the twenties and thirties, when the bright young things went to parties at each others' houses, the host would, when it was time for the guests to go home, offer a small hot meal to fortify them on the way home (usually eggs, as it was hot, tasty, easy and quick to make for a dozen or so hungry teens). The fried eggs and ham sandwich became quickly known as 'uitsmijter' because when the host said 'who wants some eggs', they knew it was the polite way of telling them to leave.
      This is totally true.

    I see you've never heard of spanish tortilla. That's so freaking sad. People still thinking we spaniards eat paella frecuently (we don't, it's not typical for all of spain) but still no one ever freaking mentions tortilla, cocido (with all it's local variations) all the different soups and all the northern fish dishes. It still blows my mind that most people, when thinking about egg dishes, doesn't think about a real nice spanish tortilla. If I say the word tortilla, everyone thinks about the mexican "tortillas", but we mean a fucking potato omelette. :(
