Black Star & Searing Exarch Boss Guide [PoE 3.17]

- Zizaran showcases two of the new pinnacle bosses in Path of Exile: the red influence Searing Exarch and the Black Star.
These two new bosses have a tutorial version the first time you kill them, this is not that version, it's the harder one.
Disclaimer: The build showcased is very weak and done on Standard league, to showcase mechanics and ways you can fail them.

To be honest with you Ziz, showing bosses on a zDPS character is probably the best content for most people.
Showing the mechanics of the Bosses, how to interact with them and maybe pointing out what you can do to survive them (if at all).
Showing Bosses being Oneshot is fun in a race scenario where everyone goes nuts and yells "HE DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT IT". Even if you could oneshot a Boss you can mention that in the beginning and then carry on with the video.

Alternate strategy for Black Star is a blue ability will not destroy a pillar in the blue zone, and a red ability will not destroy a pillar in the red zone. So you can hide behind the pillars and fully block the astral avalanche and solar storm abilities by hiding behind the pillars in the appropriate zone. The abilities do rotate and you need to move with them, but you can fully, or nearly fully block those abilities.
first time i tried this boss and I tried hiding behind the pillars, while the red ability was no issue to hide behind the pillar, avalanche no matter what I did it still hit me and one shot me and with the debuffs going in circles most of the time the pillars didn't last long enough for the avalanche to end and the rest would be destroyed by the red ability
Seen too many people being 1 shot by that. Not hc viable
@@ErshEight regarding the rotating part of the arena, when it's time for astral avalanche, make sure that you're on the blue advancing edge, i.e. the edge where the blue is overtaking the red. Then pick the pillar that turns blue next. Stand on the opposite side as the avalanche, and the pillar will stay blue and block the entire avalanche every time.

I've already mentioned this, but it won't hurt to say it again. It shows that you've been working hard on the TH-cam video quality and it's in a realy nice spot. The intros just keep meeting the same "standard" and are always fun to watch :D Thanks for the content.

- When the Black Star uses Astral Avalanche, hide behind pillars on the blue section of the arena. (Pillars on the red section will break.) Ensure you are angled correctly away from the meteors. The meteors will always fall in the direction from the Black Star towards the center.
- When the Black Star uses her Beam, hide behind pillars on the red section of the arena. (Pillars on the blue section will break.) The Black Star will strafe slightly while using this attack.

but I guess HC player doesn't choose this method cuz risk of being 1 shot by meteors.
most bossing builds in HC can survive meteors without debuff
btw I consider these totem builds are not viable bossing builds in HC
Nah would strongly recommend against this strat. You will eventually get clipped by a meteor and 1 shot
It's really good that you're showing these fights with scuffed chars. IMO it highlights alot better which abilities do alot of damage and which don't.
For Black Star, I actually like to stay on the matching side. So red for solar storm, blue for astral avalanche.
The debuff will make those attacks more dangerous, but the pillars won't be destroyed, so you can stay behind them and ideally not get hit at all.

I actually died that way this week because she did her second ice attack during astral avalanche right behind the pillar where I was standing. I couldnt tank the damage because I already had a lot of cold stacks. I think its important to go to the matching side in the last moment possible
Tips for Black Star:
Face-tank the Solar Storm to avoid it destroying pillars (they get destroyed while in the blue floor)
Stand in the fire half-circle AWAY from the point where the Astral Avalanche comes from. Stand behind pillars on blue floor, alternatively.
Tips for Searing Exarch:
Run Frost Wall with Spell Cascade support to tank the balls for the bullet hell phase.
Stay close to him at all time and circle around him for Annihilation. Don't stand in the fire traps.
Well, ngl, intended strategy is you should stay on same ground as attack element.
So when she does astral avalanche, you hide behind pillars on blue side (they don't getting destroyed, until ground becomes red)
And when she does solar flare, you can hide behind pillars on red side.
Frost wall is a good stuff though, i hadn't thought about that
The Simulacrum/ the replica also deal Frost/Fire damage and when you take a lot of stack to face tank solar sotrm the gost that deals frost dmg can one shot you with an aa therefore the corrct tactic is to stand behind the pillar of the same side as the big attack (storm/avalanche) as it does not get destoyed. by an attack fo the same element.
This video is therefore literally bait as you might have noticed yourself in the footage when you got hit by the avalanche in the beginning.

i would say i like the lower dps version as it lets us see the mechanics repeatedly and not just a, this is how you kill the boss bwaaaaaaaa dead see its easy like most guides i have seen out there for bosses
If I could give two thumbs up on this video I would! The tip with the frost wall was a GAME CHANGER! I went from getting destroyed by him three separate times to beating him in one go, all by slotting in a level 1 frost wall in place of a support gem and trying my best to keep my cool in the center of the map. THANK YOU!
they should probably nerf astral avalanche, even when you follow the mechanics and have max stacks you still get melted by the big boulders. the perspective also confuses me so idk where the boulders land.

If you go to the blue side when its avalanche the pillars block the shards. And vice versa for the beam go to red side no pillars destroyed and you really don't get very many stacks less than 10 if planned right. Then just jump straight to the opposite side to bring down the stacks.

I hope they will fix the Searing Exarch fight for minions.
Minions shouldn't pop the balls, just take damage themselves from them, that way you can still do the mechanic as-intended.
Frostwall is NOT the intended way; Maven destroy them without explosion, so you can easily navigate around them without taking any kind of damage, where frostwall just makes them pop and make it much more chaotic than needed

I don't think the flame wall staying is a bug. He says "Cleansing" when he sends the flame fall in the direction he's facing. I'm guessing just as he finishes casting the wall, you move in an opposite direction (aggro'd on you). And since he's not facing it, he doesn't use the "Cleansing" skill. That's why he sent both walls at 12:15.

The Exarh bullet hell part really sucks with a minion build. Your minions pop the bombs next to you constantly
so that's why i hit the wall before
When the Black Star does her laser beam you can also just hug and circle her, she cant keep up and wont hit you
I'd expect these bosses get changed later in the league once GGG is able to take a breath, or next league. Searing Exarch is several orders of magnitude harder than Eater of worlds.
For the black star, the pillars don't break on the matching half, solar storm breaks pillars on cold half but doesn't on fire half, and vice versa for astral avalanche.
So the safest you can be is to stay on fire side, tank avalanches on max fire stacks, and hide behind pillars for solar storm since it's much easier to block with pillars.
This guide was much better than for the other bosses. I feel like you could have showed off the range of the incineration move, because it looks bigger than it is and maybe explained the moves of the searing exarch before the fight as you did with the black star.
Lastly you played around knowing, but didn't mention that black star alternates between the big attacks, therefore you can alsways safely switch sides after she did a move as long as you are comfortable with the minions. That way you have much more time to build up stacks before the next move.
Other than that it was a pretty good guide! Well done.
How do you log out so fast? Is there a keybind or something?
Regarding Black Star, you can hide behind pillars in the blue side during astral avalanche, as the attacks of the boss only destroy pillars on the side with different colors (Avalanche destroys pillars on red ground, the flame beam destroys pillars on blue ground)

After a few more tries, I am pretty sure the difference between this guide tanking Solar Storm and going "Hey, it deals no damage" and it just melting my build even with opposite element buff from the map is spell suppression, which is the one thing my build lacks at the moment.
As spell suppression is a roll chance per spell hit and Solar Storm is a series of quick succession hits from the beam(s) there's a good chance of spell suppression proccing repeatedly so even if you only suppress 1 out of every 5 hits, given how the attacks overall damage is dealt through many consecutive hits one after the other, the attack can be largely mitigated. Where as Astral Avalance that does similar overall damage output to solar storm does it in a single hit... you either get the 1 roll to suppress it or you don't, and if you don't then you take a heavy hit out right.
so... we finally have a reason to weapon swap, put a super icewall setup in weapon swap xD full SIze wall
It's possible the Solar Storm doing very little damage may have been a bug GGG have since hotfixed as doing Black Star this evening it can kill my full res Absolution Minion build that has around 3.5k health in about 1.5 seconds even with a strong blue stack. Now it seems to do roughly equivalent damage to Avalanche except across a few seconds rather than immediately.
man has like 10x my mapping dps and still calls it low
I love your guides but this one was horrible. I would even advice to remove it from yt, learn boss mechanic and make correct video. I am talking about polaric invitation. you should hide behind pillars to avoid dmg, and pillars should be same element side as attack type. your character even if its not as tanky, its already few times more tanky then ppl used to have at this point of the game. at least in softcore. This guide will make this fight for them even more painfull then before bck you advice to facetank boss rather then use arena mechanic as intended. its like calling for shaper slam, its just physical dmg, so you should tank it with molten shell, while you can avoid it in 100%
also about last guide, when you got pulled into marshes by small boss, you shouldnt run like crazy in one way. you have no armor or evasion anyway, so you should focus on clearing mobs, and slowly push towards exit jumping from small ground to others. this way degen wont kill you like in your last video.
not sure if they changed it but that beam killed me everytime nearly instand while on 7000 energy shield and full resis

is this still up to date? I play my first hc ssf season and dont want to die, can you still do all the tricks or got somthing changed buffed or nerfed?

How the hell is a melee build supposed to do these fights? I'm supposed to move around trying to stay in the right area while avoiding 3 bosses and do DPS?
wtf, I died 6 times to the red laser beams. I'm watching this now because I'm encountering the Black Star for the second time, after the first time went super terribly.

I think I just didn't notice the stacks the first time. Cause my gear hasn't improved much, and I've maybe gained 2 levels since the last attempt.

you missed the point of astral avalanche on first boss, you can just hide behind pillards and take 0 damage
I also have minatour miniboss on my searing exarch fight, wtf is that all about? I get one shot from his hits also.

What do “stacks” mean what stacks
watching this video is so discouraging, I had 85 max fire and 80 cold and the avalanche + reflection autoattack killed me out of nowhere, the timing and positioning is so random and bullshit
So that is what's killing me.
What a shit boss design where you have to logout to not get killed and logout to replenish flasks.
shame that they design boss fights around a logout macro.
Weaksauce characters make for better teaching. Gigachad characters make for fun montages. Also, Black Star is basically a free DPS phase when she's doing Astral Avalanche.
Edit: It seems like you're doing it wrong in the case of Black Star, whenever she does the big attacks, you need to stand on the matching side of the arena for invulnerable pillars. She can't break red pillars with fire attacks and vice versa, which goes against the floor mechanic but that's PoE for you I guess.
how the fuck do you move so slow yet the fucking annihilation doesn't touch you ? i fucking use thge quicksilver flask and dash and it still catches and 1shots me. wtfff
it can only rotate at a set speed, so the closer you are to the boss the easier it is to outrun

what a stupid way to fight the boss.. use the mechanics with the pillars and no need to log out lol.. call it a guide and ignore the mechanics completely and log out XD
Because if you follow the mechanics on hardcore you can still be 1 shot if you get slightly clipped by a meteor, at least with this method you'll have time to react versus your character just getting deleted.
Wait maven helps when i first did the boss battle i thought i had to dodge her lazers and the fireballs lol. Also his slam killed me 4 times before i got smart and went to the egde of the areana. I really like these new bosses. Im someone who doesnt boss only beat sirus like 2 times. And the elder and shaper a few times. But these guys and the other one are super fun
What is DPS on this char?..
Ziz says multiple times throughout the video that it's as low as 300-500k.
This guide realy should be taken down from you and re uploaded with right strats for black star. You are not playing the fight as ut is made.. look at the comments telling how to do the fight 😊 otherwise good content 😉
The black star's mechanics feels so buggy and the minions are more dangerous than the main boss' abilities... GGG, fix your game!
Havent felt any bugs in black star…..and whats wrong with minions doing damage? You can see them, its not a surprise you are being attacked 😅 Far from making a game broken
