Wow super impressive. Love how you combine electronics into it. I am in the prosess of combining two kayaks to a catamaran, and sail on it, and eventually hydrofoils. All transportable on a bike trailer for my electric fatbike. And the idea, is to chain drive my fatbike motor into the boat propeller. So it is a E-bike powered boat.
Nope, you didn't. It was the plan to try it with wind, but on the two occasions I tested it, there was no wind ...and I would need at least 4 bf, because the foils are oversized due to the building materials used (cheap wood and steel).
hi, im trying to make rc version of hydrofoil boat but i have a lot dificulties with electronic stabilisation system..could you please share your arduino code
In the PDF on this link way at the end is the whole arduino-code... www.dropbox.com/s/bizrrhdzduxnlne/Lukas%20Reitemeier_Fliegen%20%C3%BCber%20dem%20Wasser%20-%20Konstruktion%20und%20Bau%20eines%20Hydrofoils.pdf?dl=0
@@lukasreitemeier Would you please send the file once more, I am trying to make a similar project but I found the code very complicated to make, the dropbox link has expired.
I think your main goal was the eletronic height control, could be the reason for completely disregard the KISS concept (there are already far more simple and less fail prone ways to mecanically do that), but lets put this aside, for now...at which speed have you foiled up, would you be able to reach such speed under sail? Adding lateral foils to a sailboat, you might have think in assymmetrical lift, to fight heeling forces, how would you reinforce (or completely replace) not only the spar but also, the mast's foot structure, to deal with the increased loads, without adding too much weigth? And finally, there is already on the market, a complete plug&play foil kit for Lasers but ... without Eletronic Heigth Control, for sure.
Hello Lukas Very nice project! I have a question about the ultrasonic sensors. Did they work well for you in the water, or would you in hindsight suggest a different type of sensor?
This was my original plan, but at the moment I have got to little time to make a third test...However I would love to see my construction fly under it's own power! The main problm is, that a high efficiency and practicallity were never my main design goals. I assume that it is possible to fly just with wind power, but I estimate a needed wind-force of 4 beaufort.
How did you come up with the decision for how much wing area is appropriate (relative to your boat weight and target speed)? What made you chose this specific wing profile? There are so many to chose from (e.g. as NACA numbers) ... Btw: Interesting project, especially with the successful implementation of an automated electronic stabilisation. Congratulations! _(note: I also speak german, just in case this makes answering any easier)_
Lukas hat das in seiner Maturaarbeit alles ausführlich beschrieben. Der Titel der Arbeit lautet "Fliegen über dem Wasser -Konstruktion und Baueines Hydrofoils". Grüße Fabian
For this test run only some cheap 40 kg servos from china. I expected thise to burn up and they kind of did, but they hold up 45 min just fine. (if they have to hold position under a weight, it is basicly a short circuit.. ) For longer operation a threaded rod and carriage would be better.
It would have been much better to see more footage at the end. Very cool. Fs ? Second ord pos. control? DSP on controller or do you just run recursion in std micro? Why FG instead of carbon fibre?
You are completly right, but I was on a tight budget (so no carbon) and had absolutely no time to develop the perfect controller, so it was kind of the savest cheapest way to take off once...
Lukas Reitemeier Hi Lucas, I’m designing a tri Marian utilising adjustable foils. Your electronics look great. Any chance of a discussion on the programming of the module? I can’t find anything on the arduino forum Thanks in advance Al
I'm a Tesla Senior Staff engineer and I must build one of these now too! THank you!!
Brilliant - how wonderful to combine two things that you obviously love - well done!
Congratulations on this very interesting project. Please ccould we have a video of the boat sailing. John
Great work and would be good to see on model boats also to allow the first ever properly controlled foiling cats !
nice build. it would be fun to build an RC scaled-down version. at what speed does your boat hull lift out of water?
Really cool. But... Did you SAIL it??
My thoughts exactly.
Great Work. Cannot wait to see your boat in full wind under the sails :) - did you try it ?

thats really interesting. do you share your work somewhere ?
Awesome work guys !
A well deserved success !
A very cool project! The fact that you made it alone is very impressive. How can I contact you to find out some of the features of the technique?
First DIY electronic height control I have seen. I wonder if it would be legal for Moth class.

Congrats from Tessin!!
I must have missed something I don't see you sailing the sailboat with hydrofoil I see it being towed did it ever work?

Very Smart. I wonder what it would do under sail speed wise?
Truly brilliant! Subscribed!!

Haha wie cool! Hab deine Maturaarbeit mal grob durchgelesen. Echt Respekt :)
Danke!
Nice! Please never wear gloves when working with spinning tools like you did at 4:50. Very dangerous.
Thanks for the tip, makes absolutely sense!
I hope you are keeping up with this video. What airfoil did you use and how did you calculate the size needed for the mass of your boat?

impressive
Looking forward to seeing you in the Alinghi team!
Did you use sweeps (chirp) to read distance?
YOU GONIG TO SAIL IT OR WHAT?
great work. congratulations
Hello Lukas
Very nice project!
I have a question about the ultrasonic sensors. Did they work well for you in the water, or would you in hindsight suggest a different type of sensor?
The waterproof JSN-SR04T sensor worked verry well, especially for the low price. Even when the sensor got wet, the readings were accurate!
Nice work! I'm inspired.
Excelente trabalho!! Parabéns.
Hey Lucas I was wondering if you could share your CAD drawings.
This video looks fine to me
really amazing
Do you have plans to sail the boat under it's own power? I would love to see a video on that

Your vertical controller works like a charm! Nice! You used infared or ultrasound or what to measure distance from sensor to water?
7:05 he anwers your question
what servo motor did u use?
