But it’s not about teaching, it’s about SHOWING! The Novus Ordo does not make manifest the reality of what’s happening, ie Calvary. Until the TLM is restored, catechesis on the Eucharist and what the Mass is will be ineffective.
I agree with Mark about Catechesis, about formation. That is one of the major roots of the problem with Catholics not having reverence or belief in the real presence. Catholics don’t know what they don’t know. How can formation be better? How can priests use the pulpit in a better way to educate parishioners and encourage them to go deeper? Thank you for raising the issue of the Mass Laser Tag at St Mark's Catholic Church in Ipswich UK. I attended Mass at Holy Family Brantham in April 2024 when visiting relatives at Manningtree nearby. Holy Family is attached to St Mark's Parish where my tolerance levels were tested. I entered the church for Sunday Mass and was shocked by members of the small aged congregation walked around having loud conversations talking about their physical ailments and chatting with the latest news as if in a social hall. They rushed about too and fro as if mingling in a party. The priest walked in from his car with a card board box similar to those apples are shipped in. It had no lid. Inside was a ciborium with consecrated hosts. He walked up the aisle with the box and took the ciborium out resting the box on the altar, and placed the ciborium into the empty tabernacle. Yes he genuflected. No one else did. The hymns were like an episode of South Park in which they formed a Christian boy band which sang love songs with "Jesus" used to replace "girl". Other hymns sounded like circus music. My skin crawled at the obvious banality and dissonance which seemed to unnoticed by those there. I was shocked this older congregation, who had a memory of the reverence of the past were so casual and desacralised. The sign of peace degenerated into another run around and was annoying. I tried not shake hands but was obliged too so as not to look grumpy. With a congregation of less than twenty we still had laywomen take part in distributing Holy Communion. My relatives who are disillusioned member of the C of E remarked it was "like a Anglican service" to which I replied "exactly that is the problem". I was thinking of giving some feedback in an email but I lacked the courage. In England shallow politeness is a practiced to the point of being a vice. My relatives saw I was disappointed. The next Sunday they searched for a TLM nearby which was in a beautiful country estate chapel. There were families with children and a normal range of age groups at Mass. The congregation were reverent and focused on the Mass My relatives were moved by the sacrality of the low Mass and I thought it the real thing...God focused and ancient...not a children's game. Fr Luke Goymour at St Mark's where the Laser tag is planed is not a bad man or priest.I think he is a reasonable man but I was not sure if his congregation from the 1970"s broke him to fit in with them. I think he is clutching at straws. I found him to be polite and not an odd ball. He has just lost his bearings. There is no doubt the parishes are in trouble... it's the design of the church buildings, the ugliness of the interiors and banality of a neo Protestant liturgy but also a sloppy casual culture that has developed. As the priest was processing out the end of the Mass someone called out from the pew telling everyone it was a couples wedding anniversary. God bless them...but the round of clapping and cheering was again out if place. I would have asked them to stay after Mass and given them a blessing. Better to inform the priest beforehand. The liturgy isn't bingo in the village hall...Brantham has no village hall and the church looks like one!
Surprised you did not include a spattering of attendees saying the rosary during the Mass as they did when all Masses were in Latin and the smaller number of people who received the host, I suppose, out of the idea that the priest's reception sufficed.
@@michaeljhoey1Yes...my Anglican cousins, did a search and discovered the amazing church and TLM. Pray for the priest there who is very wise and dedicated to tradition. That part of the world took part in the Pilgrimage of Grace and the traditional Mass continued in the nearby manor and then the estate church until today.
Dressing up as a saint makes me think uncharitably, of a martyr costume, with all kinds of unpleasant special effects. Seriously, who thinks this stuff up? To be fair it's nothing new, with elderly priests being coerced into holding discos and (shudder) folk Masses in the 1960s and 70s.
The FSSP parish I attend counters Halloween with All Saints dress ups for the children. It works very well although I would set an age limit. I thought we had a new nun visiting however it was a lare teenage girl dressed at St Rose of Lima.
Disagree with Katherine, Mark, and Gavin on the TLM. I think that is important the Mass to be in the vernacular and contemporary . I do favor aspects of the Novus Ordo which harken back to Early Christian liturgical practices. I do not support Helter Skelter or Laser Party gimmickry. The Mass is NOT entertainment, which, in my view, may apply to the TLM as well. I do not believe we should give up, concede, to DEI. However, Gavin's suggestion of forming intervention groups similar to those formed by Orthodox Jews seemed to be very wise. Has anyone passed it on to the Vatican, i.e. if the Vatican would run with it? At least, some dioceses and national bishops' conferences might take it up.
The tridentine or extraordinary form mass has a devoted following, but relatively few churches offer it and I doubt it would have the universal appeal that a lot of its followers claim. To others, Latin is a complete turn off. I've seen people leave a church because the priest insisted on Latin for the Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei etc. And this is the thing, there's no "novelty" (or old thing) that will get people back to mass other than Jesus and the mystery at the centre of it. I think we will need to worry less about the exact form of the package, how many candles there are on the altar etc. Fads and fashions come and go. It's the teaching of the Church and the miracle of the mass that are timeless.
I agree that some TLM enthusiasts inhabit a fantasy world wherein the entire church will just adopt it. It's never going to happen. And mature LMS types like Joseph Shaw are careful never to sound like that. But as a relatively recent revert I would say that the generally much greater reverence of the old Mass attracts people who are usually way more intelligent and lively minded than your average NO congregation. To me the ideal would be a community where the TLM acts as a kind of gold standard which improves the quality of worship overall. This happens in places like St Bede's Clapham which have flourishing NO and TLM congregations coexisting. Our local parish in Sussex has similar with a small TLM undergirding a reverent NO with ad oriente, all male servers, quiet, kneeling available etc.
@@michaeljhoey1 Excuse me for being way less "intelligent and lively minded." As Jesus said for us to do, Bless you. Again, in my opinion, the Holy Eucharist should be in the language of the people and contemporary. The NO includes liturgical practices of the Early Church, e.g. reception of the host standing, reception of both kinds (species), the priest behind the altar. The NO seems more comparable with the Holy Eucharist as it was celebrated in the beginning.🙂
@@philiphumphrey1548 Yes, I have felt the urge to walk out when Latin is used. It seems offensive. As you have said, do most people understand it today? (By the way, I had Latin in school.) Afterward, I tend to avoid the same parish. Did Jesus speak Latin to people he addressed? Most likely Aramaic.🙂

It did not stop at calvary. The Resurrection and Ascension followed. It has been said that the western liturgy tended to placed emphasis on Jesus' passion on the cross. Eastern liturgies, e.g. Byzantine and Eastern Orthodox, did not leave out the balance of the Resurrection and Ascension. It may be my imagination, but I have noticed a slight adjustment in the NO. Some optional responses and hymns may mention the passion, resurrection, and ascension, not the passion alone.

Also, EM obviously asks questions on his own, all the time, as he is a creative genius, but looking at one snapshot between 2 people can’t convey everything. I’ve seen EM many times-I think he’s tough to interview for what we’re used to seeing on television/streaming entertainment. *** JP knows his wife was ultimately saved by a miracle and not by diet. (I’ve watched him speak about this a lot.) Re diet, several doctors from major institutions have done studies on healing metabolic disorders, mental health issues, and auto immune diseases through diet (low/no carb), and it’s not crazy. The Petersons have been physically helped by diet, period. The Rosary, Catholic Church, and, of course, Jesus Christ have helped save their souls. They are the Accidental Evangelists. *** EM was gracious. JP seemed anxious to engage EM through his usual style, but EM is never ever as verbally precocious as JP. JP was trying, though!
That is so sad but also common in many NO parishes. I expect you found refuge in Withermarsh Green! Father Henry is an inspiration.
Those are the exact reasons I do not watch Peterson's interviews anymore . . .

PS. Latin for the Kyrie? Surely it's Greek!
😊
Sorry but I think there are too many abbreviations.
TLM, DEI, Novus Ordo.
Good afternoon from Brittany, France. Just an information you could give me ; I know you Anglo-Saxons love acronyms but would you please tell me what your mean by DIE ?
Apologies. It’s variously referred to as DEI, EDI or as we prefer DIE and means an intentional programme of Diversity Inclusion and Equity
@@catholicunscripted sort of evil trinity concluded by the semantic of the word, namely death ; totally prophane. The inclusivity is rampant, every where ; diversity is a new concept which goes on and on in the present vision of the world, there is a German word for it, I guess. Did they, our ancestors, use it in the XIXth century ? The accent, it's interesting to notice, is on the quantitative, that is to say material side of this unfrequentable idea. Equity ? Well, no there is no equity, nature is unjust sometime, no, there no equality at all. The French Revolutionary of the 1793/1796 period, the Terror did all they could to make it real for everybody but they failed. Completely, in the Ancien Régime, there were unequalities, by the blood mainly, some blue ones were suposed to be more precious, but he three Orders were living pacifically under the Monarchs. There’s nothing wrong with asking for support. We viewers need to be reminded to subscribe and donate if we like a “show.” That’s how it works now. CU actually probably needs to remind people more frequently to hit like and subscribe, and show how to donate. I hope they do super chats some day.

Totally agree with Gavin! Jordan was talking talking talking with that irritating high pitched Canada accent!!!
I also agree about the religion texts issue at 11 years old.
Jordan refuses to get off his intellectual ‘doubt’ about Christianity!
I agree with your comments, but I still love JP. People who are way smarter than the rest of us are usually a bit different. We gotta give them some slack. JP has had his eyes opened to faith through his wife. Usually something has to happen that transcends the intellect. I call JP the Accidental Evangelist. He is doing inestimable good in getting people to think, to look at the Bible in a refreshing new way, and to consider miracles. He is teaching people. Even Bishop Barron recognizes that.

But it’s not about teaching, it’s about SHOWING! The Novus Ordo does not make manifest the reality of what’s happening, ie Calvary. Until the TLM is restored, catechesis on the Eucharist and what the Mass is will be ineffective.
children of the NWO religion only want entertainment and more giggles!
