I'm pretty sure people are not buying it for the hour chime, or the lack of. Trust me the chime is not the main feature, it's every thing else it has what makes it great.
The reason these MIP watches don't have hourly chimes is probably because of the VIBE alert - the watch would vibrate every hour which would drain the battery in short order - making the watch vibrate sucks a lot of juice. This is probably also the reason it's not solar - the power demands of the vibe, bluetooth etc are too much for solar to handle. I also suspect they couldn't fit a solar panel along with the MIP display. So instead of solar we need to pop the battery every 2 years - not too much of a hardship. It also syncs the time over bluetooth as well so that will work wherever in the world you are - you don't need to be in range of an atomic clock transmitter.
Actually, with G-Shocks the more functions they have, the more they need solar -- battery only watches simply drain too fast when you have triple and quad sensors going on.
Dude, This is a surf or waterman's watch for tides/sunrises/sunsets, it doesn't sound like this is a watch for you. I love that it doesn't have an hourly chime, I find those annoying.
I like the hour beep, this watch has some really cool Settings Menu, would be very cool to just have the option and be able to enable it or disable it ... I Agree with the video ...
Nice review! This is a watch is aimed at intermediate / advanced / pro surfers . The timer page shown at 4:17 is for when you'd be contest surfing, to track remaining time in surf heat . If Casio added GPS to update tide locations and Tough Solar, I'd be all over it.
Good review, great watch. I wouldn’t care about lack of chime as I never use it as I think it’s a useless feature that wakes me up at night if I’ve forgotten to turn it off 😂😂😂
Who cares about the damn hour chime the watch looks awesome I personally don't use any of the watch functions except the hour date as the other functions have no use for me .
Probably the most legible negative display of any watch. Worth it for that at a glance time display. The sun and tide times are pretty useful if you live near the coast. The lack of solar charging is the only downside, but batteries are cheap and easily changed.
Wow, this is the first of countless reviews I've seen of this watch (and the GBD-200) that points out the missing hourly signal. Absolutely agree: it's a real shame, because that's such a signature feature of Casios, and these MIP models get so much right otherwise. The only likely explanation is battery conservation, for which they've also taken other measures like the controversial seconds-only stopwatch, the extra-large CR2032 battery, etc. And yet, somehow, they decided the barely usable notification system was needed. Hell, most people would trade in the entire bluetooth and step-counter/fitness stuff for tough solar on these models.
This new G-Shock collection should be called: The NO Hourly Signal Squad! I own both the GBX-100 & GBD-100, and the hourly signal/beep/chime is missing in both of them. Those 2 models and the more expensive GBD-H1000 ($399) are the top of the line "digital display only" pieces from G-Shock, so the company is probably removing the hourly signal feature from all future watches. So Sad! I own about a dozen G's and I use the hour signal feature more than any other feature or function and is exactly the one missing on the new MOVE Squad Line, is marketing madness!
I loved this watch when I first saw it ... Love the Metal thing, makes the watch look cooler, more premium and adds some good weight. Plus the green/blueish color I got is beautiful.... I don't live near the ocean but having the tide, sun and moon options are really cool to have. What a shame about the hour thing... I agree
I have this watch, if it had the hourly chime I would turn it off anyway. What bugged me is the strap: I cut off the last 1.5 cm because otherwise it does not look good on wrist. For the rest happy with it!
I own the petrol version about one month and i am very happy with it.... but... why the stopwatch-mode in a SPORTSWATCH only counts 1/1 seconds and not 1/10s or better 1/100s !? I hope the software will be updated soon and maybe the chime and some other options could be enabled over the app !?
If I had a watch that beeped every hour I'd smash it to bits with a hammer. This is a surfers watch. Specifically. It's not for any other purpose. If you don't surf buy a watch that beeps. I find it fascinating that so many people who review watches simply miss the point of the watch and complain. And 90 % of the things they complain about are available on nearly every other watch. It's like buying a pickup truck and complaining you don't have a trunk.
It would be stupid to smash it to bits. Then you'd be stuck without a watch. Just disable the damn feature and you won't need to worry about it. But they could have at least have left it as an OPTION for those of us who don't mind having it. The rest of the watch could still be enjoyed by both types of people. I agree with the video. To each their own.
Wrong dude, while mainly aimed at surfers, Casio's marketing materials also clearly say it's 'Great for many Sports' with icons of people skateboarding, running, playing tennis and golf. Why in the heck would they be so stupid to not make it "for any other purpose", when the number of surfers in the world is dwarfed by such other sports? Sales & Marketing 101...
Just purchased one of these watches. I too like the hourly chime on a watch but after watching your review everything else sounds really good. You know the old saying beggars can't be chooses. Thanks for your in-depth review.
Unfortunately Vestal stoped making their brig to brig watch. Which I’ve bought three of because I work on the water doing marine construction and destroy them. Settled for this. But it’s not bad at all. Couldn’t care less for the chime. Lol
In my experience, it’s pretty accurate. I check my local tide forecast on the internet sometimes and this watch is never more than 15mins off. I especially like how it tells you a bit of the tide info for the next day.
Depends on your location. Some areas like Puget sound are tougher to predict tide for tide models. If it's hawaii or let's say Snapper rocks - tide forecast should be accurate There are some reports of this tide data being inaccurate. Same in other watches like ripcurl gps 2
Don't care about all the other features on this one. Give me that display with a stopwatch, countdoen timer and alarms. Then i would be very happy, don't want notifications that's why a lot of people use a g shock we don't want notifications like a smartwatch etc. Great looking watch though!
Such a darn shame that such a BEAUTIFUL watch does not have hourly chime. I would have traded those surfer features for "sig" any day. 🤷 I don't mind it having a replaceable battery. Because, unfortunately, even solar powered built in batteries have their life span. And once they go......... so does the watch. And who knows if, by that time, if they will still be selling the same exact watch. 🤔 Next thing you know, you end up buying a less attractive watch because THIS particular model is no longer manufactured.

I cannot imagine how an hourly chime makes any difference. I hate watches that make noise

Form over function means nothing to me.
I would buy it for it’s looks size and comfort. Can’t believe even mentioning hourly chime. Just buy a cuckoo clock.
I like the hourly chime too, but this would be for the gym for me and I wouldn't notice it not being there with earbuds in.
Crazy, I absolutely love them, massive fan of the colourways. Didnt even realise they'd missed off the chime

I can manage without the hourly signal, but Casio forgot the Tough Solar.. 😔

i dont wear digital watches.., so i dont mind the hourly chime.... i just like the look of it and it reminds me of gshocks in 90s. so im getting one.

These are quite cool and legible. Don't understand why they don't allow changing of the date format like they do in the square metal gshocks though.
yeah, same thoughts here, hope they update the software!
I bought this last month I chose the white band which was very good
I hope they work that display into more squares.
The $850 Rangeman doesn’t have an hourly chime either.
Don’t show him a Rangeman before he has a stroke lmao
@@TerryHesticles ...too late!

Because the refresh rate of the MIP display.
Does it have an hourly signal? Like a beep every hour?

You're very welcome!
Has it got the hourly beep?
I love g shocks ... so simple yet very cool !
I had one for a week. I like the strap and display. However, the watch is too complicated.
Unfortunately Vestal stoped making their brig to brig watch. Which I’ve bought three of because I work on the water doing marine construction and destroy them. Settled for this. But it’s not bad at all. Couldn’t care less for the chime. Lol
How does the bezel hold up? Does it get scratched easily? Debating between this and the Gbd200..
Yes very easily. I actually removed the bezel and sanded it down to a lower grit so it isn’t as shiny and scratches less easily.
Hey Maverick another great video 👍🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
The other MIP display models, the Rangeman GPR-B1000, GBD-H1000 and GBD-100, are also missing the hourly chime.
@@rb2112 A lot of folks like it.
Only thing holding me back is lack of solar.
Me too!
Nice display
do you find that the light button is quite 'too deep' to push? unline old model like firefox /dw model?
Yeah I just got one but honestly I use the auto backlight more than I've pressed the button
Cause the watch don't beep 🤔. Really. Interesting
Glad you think so.
For me too a lack of an hourly time signal is a deal breaker.
Really cool piece, and great review! Love the white band version as well, but how does it hold up to everyday wear? Do the edges get dirty easily?
It does get a tad dirty but easily cleaned with warm soap and water.
Warm soap and water…… problem solved!!
How accurate is the tide feature?

I would use the chime at work or gym. With my other G-Shock it has a chime.
But it is not a big deal for me for it not to have it.
I like the hourly chime. Wouldn't buy this watch now that I know it doesn't have it.
Get over the hourly chime dude. Oh dear
Love the screen , this screen on my 5610 would be awesome
I would like a fluo green or yellow band
I have a question Why is there no alert in this watch between hour and hour? Like Casio digital watches?
Right there with you about the hourly chime. There's no reason for it to not have it.
Where are you been bro? Why don’t you do some $300 and under Seiko’s. SEIKO IS KING !!!
Don't care about all the other features on this one. Give me that display with a stopwatch, countdoen timer and alarms. Then i would be very happy, don't want notifications that's why a lot of people use a g shock we don't want notifications like a smartwatch etc. Great looking watch though!

🏆⌚️
Hourly chime and tough solar! Cmon gshock.
The “please wait” is ridiculous.
Tides are not accurate.
It's ridiculous... for a tide watch.
Out in the sun surfing with no solar charging ability?!?
This is a stupid watch. All show but no go. Steps counter is rubbish.
Yup like any other smartwatches...
It's actually a great watch for a seashore fisherman, with the tides, the moon phases, and sunrise/sunset.
