At 22:05, at the Avril Dunn murder section, the one at the bar who ordrers a Malibu and lemonade is Duncan Jackson. He was actually found guilty of her murder 14 years later. How creepy that he took part in her Crimewatch reconstruction - and even spoke to the actress who played her part....!

Maybe on knowing this, I'm reading too much into it, but I wonder if the police had their suspicions at the time. In the shot of Avril leaving the pub, the actress looks directly at the murderer and makes a head gesture as if to beckon him outside. Could the police have liasoned with the director and purposefully included this as some kind of subliminal towards the other pub goers who would surely watch the reconstruction.
Probably not. I'm probably brain addled from 8 hours of back to back Crimewatching. 🤣

14th September 1985, Avril Dunn, and Duncan Jackson were known to each other, and had been playing Darts together in the Heron pub in the Limbury Meads area of Luton.that evening.
(interestingly, the same pub where this author worked)
Avril disappeared on her short walk home.
Jackson took her to Sundon woods where he beat her, then strangled her.
Caught 25 years after the murder, Jackson was caught via new developments in DNA techniques.
27th January 2000, The court was told that semen stains found on Avril's clothing could not be identified at the time, but new advances in DNA techniques meant this was now possible.
Jackson was found guilty and given a life sentence.

2:31 one of the great Crimewatch reconstructions for me. The lingering tension throughout, combined with the devastating voice-over by Sue Cook when 'it' finally happens is simply sublime.
I'm currently on a rewatch of all the episodes available on TH-cam and what a stark contrast to the post-1995 era, where you'd be lucky to find 1 reconstruction even half as good as this one throughout an entire series.

@@twinkle3026 Looking out for each other is one thing and we should absolutely do that but assuming or taking any kind of responsibility for a grown adult (unless they are elderly, have a significant disability or a severe mental health condition) is another thing altogether.
Sometimes people (I'm not saying Avril did this at all) take advantage of others like this woman...
This woman probably had absolutely no idea of the awful events that were to take place on the night of Avril's murder.
As I've said I think that woman was far more tolerant and patient than most would have been, and to be as patient and tolerant as she was, she was probably a nice enough woman to start with.

The Presto's, is now a Lidl and TKMaxx, the police officer at 3:18 in the video, says 62 The High Street, Putney. If you look on google maps and use the timeline slider bar, the shop opposite was M&S, as you can see when Steve looks out of the window, when he hears the car. The camera at 7:45 in the video looking from across the road at the Barclays Bank end of the row of shops.

Thanks for mentioning this. Ever since I first saw this episode I always wondered where Presto was. I figured it must be at the top of the street, where the cinema is and the road goes to Wandsworth, and it turned out I was right. I was in Putney today, and the bus stop to go over the bridge is right outside Barclays. The barriers have gone, and M&S has closed. The shop used to be Iceland, Woollies and Superdrug.

I think the Chevette's high engine rpm sound muffled the sound of Nick Ross' pronunciation of "flustered".
Though I can definitely see how it's possible someone could hear "flastic" if they were listening out for it either consciously or subconsciously.
As clearly as he speaks, I'm sure that Nick Ross has pronounced the odd word very ambiguously on _other_ shows (such as "So You Think You're A Good Driver?")
