Its funny. I was a huge Metallica fan in the 80s. When this was released, I felt personally slighted. I smashed over 80 albums (bootlegs, interviews, their released stuff, a lot of $$$ now). I've changed, grown to like/love this album, but a lot of fans hated this initially, very strange, since it's such a great sound + album. The 8 0s, 90s, times were different!
@@undinism69 Yeah, you grow out of things like these. When I was a huge metal fan, I started hating every band that softened their sound and came to appreciate those albums only years later when I got into my 20s. I just understood that it's hard to make the same music your whole life, at some point you want to experiment, change something. I was like that with vocals. When I started listening more to hardcore, metalcore, deathcore, brutal death metal and slam, I got into very harsh vocals like high screams, growls, gutturals and such and after about 2 years I got bored of it. Started singing clean and it made me appreciate my voice more because only this way I could really showcase it.
Power ballads. Some rock + metal fans don’t enjoy them, but I happen to greatly like such tunes. You get these songs with a lot of feeling + emotion, but they can rock out at the same time. They have a lot of heart. And I appreciate it when artists put the two disparate aspects together. A fusion of fantastic facets.
I haven't watched your channel in a while and I just want to say, "Wow!" I can't put a finger on exactly what I think is different, but I feel as though you're much more relaxed and confident. I loved your analysis of James' voice, and decided to subscribe. I definitely want more of this!
Thank you for going through this, it really is interesting and enthralling to have a Peter delve into any big classic songs! For sure you can make it a returning thing.
Yes! Thanks for analyzing Metallica! I DID get to see them perform this live in 1992! Man... those were the days... it was an awesome concert with Faith No More, Metallica and Guns N Roses. 😃
@@jenniferjensen8538 I will tell you another concert that was a total blast. Black Crows and Aerosmith. Got to see them both here in Norfolk. This was when Aerosmith had Permanent Vacation album and the Black Crows had their Shake Your Money Maker. Great stuff! Even wilder concert!
I saw them at Milton Keynes in 93 with megadeth the almighty and therapy. One of the first really big gigs I went to and to this day only the ozzfest has topped it.
I don't entirely agree. There are plenty of bands nowadays that produce music like this - they just sadly don't receive the mainstream attention they once did. If you search around there are tons of underground / indie bands making fantastic music today, the real shame is that they no longer get the attention from record labels, radio stations and the public that they deserve.
There's a lot of great music around. And this song isn't even that good. I like it, the lyrics and especially the solo. Not the best Metallica song by far. But it had mainstream success.
So the late great Michael Kamen was behind the orchestral arrangements for the song. If ya ever seen Last Action Hero (great soundtrack btw) Kamen was behind the film score for that. He had a history of working with rock and metal acts.
Yess...also few seem to recognize...but for all the pressure Jason really came through here as a worthy successor to CLiff (Rest In Power) on the bass.
I don't see many people reacting to Nick Cave. Would fit you as a bass singer, very deep rich voice. Henry Lee is a duet with PJ Harvey Into my arms is great Where the wild roses grow is a duet with Kylie Minogue (of all people!) Red right hand Mercy seat Lots of choices
Okay since we're doing Metallica we need to do Enter Sandman! That is one of my favorites of Metallica's. And also Whiskey in the Jar. This was fun and enjoyed your interpretation of what was going on.
Not sure if you've heard of them, but Apocalyptica has a good instrumental cover of this and many Metallica songs. They are a cello rock band from Helsinki. Their cover of this was my wedding song
Like many gen x, metallica introduced me to hard rock/metal genre. I never looked back. Specifically their most famous cross over hit, Enter Sandman. Still my favorite for that reason. Master of Puppets is another. Theres so many. Sad factoid: one year a girl went missing when she left the arena and wasnt allowed back in, as per the auditorium rules (not metallica). Tbe band reached out to tbe girls parents and i believe used the platform they had to show her face and get more people looking. It wasnt a happy ending however as they found her body a week or so later, a victim of a serial killer after her murder went unsolved for years. I believe at least as the story goes metallica kept in touch with the family. Their dads too and a class act.
Красивая музыка. За душу берёт. Спасибо. Почему то сейчас нет таких песен, сейчас много крика и шума и трясут головой, боишься как бы она не улетела с плеч.
Great shout! - I reckon Peter would enjoy the composition of the thing. Tate isn't doing crazy high belting thru it, but there is plenty to appreciate. :)
It’s worth seeing how they do this live. Very different between tours, but the approach is generally stripped down and doesn’t rely on backing tracks. Harmonies are supplied by backing vocals from Jason (good) or Rob/Kirk (not as good) and the highlight is always the final chorus into the solo. I don’t love this song, but James makes it work live.
Love the content! PLEASE REACT TO DEVIN TOWNSEND! I know you have crossed paths with the charismatic voice, her reactions to Devin Townsend are great but I’d like to hear your perspective! Both deadhead and kingdom from Devin Townsend please!
Loved this one! Metallica is probably my favorite metal band of all time. I even have the Metallica star tattoo on the back of my neck. My one and only tattoo. Metallica caught a lot of crap when the black album was released. They had been an absolute favorite metal band for so many and truly pioneered the genre into the mainstream. The black album, Load and Reload were different from any of their previous albums. Ballads on a metal band’s album? Then the band cut their hair and the metal fans went nuts! I would love your reactions to the Metallica videos for “One” official music video and their video of “Enter Sandman, Live in Moscow 1991”, their first open air (free) rock concert held on a military airfield. They headlined with AC/DC when the Soviet Union was dissolved. There were quite a few people in attendance that day… and this video lets you see what 1.6M people look like! I get heart palpitations looking at that crowd!😮
Most of their videos are not like this. I think they went this route because it is a more intimate song. If it was removed from mtv, it wasnt removed for long because this video was in heavy rotation. The centerfold was always blurred when I saw it.
Im not a music guy. But somthing has always made me nuts. 1980-1990. When at bar with band i request marty robbins el paso. They got look of terror in their face. And sorry no can do. Can u figure out y. 4 me.
James Hetfield doesn't have a necessarily really interesting voice or and exemplar singing technique... but he's still so unique. His articulations, phrasings, his "u"s and "so close" and "forevah"s and " yeah"s... everything makes him incredibly unique. He's a great example of how important it is to find out who one is as an artist.
Hey could you please do a reaction on Helluva boss songs? I really recommend (just look my way) official music vid coz it's really good then you could see how well it does since in the show there's a song every episode that has alot of great songs and singers
Doesn't matter music style preference, no one can deny that this is a great song.

I’ve been listening to this song for over 30 years and it just keeps getting better.

The Unforgiven is not only my favourite metallica song but pretty much my all time no.1 i would love to see your analysis of it.
The very true on Peter's is the sadly confirmation we don't have music like that anymore. Thanks for highlighting the classics!

An absolute excellent commentary and analysis 🎼🎤🎸
Love your nerdy reaction and analysis videos ❤ thank you for doing this one! I love Metallica and of course Nothing Else Matters!
Fun fact, Elton John called this one of the greatest songs ever written on the Howard Stern Show
Have you seen Metallica cover Funeral for a Friend at the Gershwin Honors for Elton John done this year. Very cool.
It’s fantastic to see your unique style.
Yess...also few seem to recognize...but for all the pressure Jason really came through here as a worthy successor to CLiff (Rest In Power) on the bass.
This and November Rain by Guns N'Roses are probably my favorite songs ever!
The haunting guitar is everything!
I don't see many people reacting to Nick Cave. Would fit you as a bass singer, very deep rich voice.
Henry Lee is a duet with PJ Harvey
Into my arms is great
Where the wild roses grow is a duet with Kylie Minogue (of all people!)
Red right hand

Lots of choices

Metallica will be touring next year so the opportunity to see them live is possible and they are a great live act,
You should do No Leaf Clover live with the orchestra from the S&M concert
Can’t wait for the vol 4 analysis!
Wonderful analysis.

one of the best bands
Is only the soul in the song the power balad Metallica is the ligth your music is 🔥 ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great reaction bro. I highly recommend Blackened live in Nimes France 2009
Красивая музыка. За душу берёт. Спасибо. Почему то сейчас нет таких песен, сейчас много крика и шума и трясут головой, боишься как бы она не улетела с плеч.
Metal isn't my go to genre, but I'm not a snob that says "this isn't music get off my lawn." I am looking forward into your pivoting into metal.
But that's exactly what metal gatekeepers say about ballads like this...
Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
Great shout! - I reckon Peter would enjoy the composition of the thing. Tate isn't doing crazy high belting thru it, but there is plenty to appreciate. :)
Love that song

They made a documentary film about the recording of the black album
Peter, as you point out the strings are light and somewhat buried in the mix. But they were arranged by Michael Kamen.

Metallica - Fade to Black is a treat too.
They did a version with Miley Cyrus and it was surprisingly excellent. On Howard Stern
Thank you for this one Peter. You should give a listen to the band Teaze and their song Heartless World, i think you would be impressed.

There is a really cool cover of this song by Marlisa, highly recommend checking that one out
His remake of sound of silence!
You should check out "Lightening Crashes" by Live.
This video was part of a documentary.
Pretty please react to Pentatonix Aha live from Singapore! It’s an old one! But you missed some really good base from Avi there!
Rammstein bestrafe mich live aus Berlin It's a very underrated live performance and Till's voice is at it's peak!
please listen to Matt Corby live on triple J radio. Brother or Lonely Boy you will be impressed
Nice reactions, as the next one you should do the version with Miley Cirus at the Howard Stern show ... that would be interesting
Still waiting for any of these vocal coaches check out metal church anthem to the estranged.

Would love to see an R&A for The Line by Twenty One Pilots from Arcane Season 2 :D
If you haven't seen music videos by Metallica, give "One" a try. Also a ballad (sort of), but especially the video will hit you hard.

Do a reaction to Judas priest Running Wild live from 1978! Early Rob Halford is great
As a lifelong metal head, I'd love to hear you attack some Ian Dury.....
Please please please.... check out The Grudge by Tool.... please
Left channel guitar is always James, Kirk is always right channel.
Led Zeppelin. Stairway to heaven. The recorded track not the live version.
Ha ha, no long intros anymore. Got Wintersun?
Can't recommend the Bloodywood / Babymetal collab highly enough.
