Update. Never in your life will you find 40 yo foams that look like new!. I have Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark on, these sound amazingly "right". a bit forward as noted below woofer needs a bypass cap. Really well balanced, bass is good for a bedroom system. They are sitting on top of Nova9's.They play way down in the 20's. The 10's are perfect for watching TV/movies if you want to hear the dialog. Yes real veneer, Matsushita = Panasonic. Drop in a modern soft dome, Jensen or Twidec poly caps and always when swapping out electrolytics add 2 ohms to tweeter, poly's have lower internal resistance. Madisound has a great tutorial. RS always had top notch cabinets, be careful sanding the veneer is paper thin.

I replaced the tweeters in my Realistic Mach Two speakers with some Ebay dome tweeters and it made a big difference. Their cabinets are nice and heavy and feel tight. No cheapo light duty chipboard. Its the quality stuff and plenty of glue.

I have a pair of these and like the grills. Vintage gear should look vintage. I also like the way they sound with vintage receivers.

Its a matter of taste. I am not a fan of much from the 70s when it comes to styling. They do sound good though.

Surprised by the crossover. Update the crossovers with better capacitors, also add an 8 or so microfarad capacitor for the woofer. Could update the drivers. Put a bunch of stuffing in there, and you know you could swap the driver and passive radiator around to make them symmetrical. Looks like the same size and screw hole pattern. You could also get creative with putting bracing inside the cabinetts to stiffen them up a bit.

Bunnings sell a coloured wax which can help reduce the visibility of scatches in wood. It may also help enhance the original colour of the wood and gives a nice sheen to the surface. Feast Watson brand in black or brown.

Couldn’t you flip one upside down and swap the woofers over to make it symmetrical?

They are scratched on the bottoms. Would have worked when they were new if you didnt care about where the connectors were on the back.

Not upside down, yes switch woofer and drone cone. The drone is slightly larger. The woofer fits in the cut out OK, the drone does not fit the woofer cutout. You need to fill the cutout with weather stripping, set the woofer on and bolt it on carefully. I said bolt, it uses t-nuts. Very rare in a mass market speaker.

Reminds me of a sort of Celestion Ditton. Minus the quality.
Can't say Tandy, Realistic had a " to die for" reputation in Australia..

They sold some decent speakers and hifi equipment, but most people did in the 70s and 80s. They were overpriced for what it was, but would have specials where they sold them at a fair price. Many other brands are overrated given they are about the same as the Tandy stuff.

Flip one woofer and passive radiator around then turn the speaker upside down and other than the connector on the back, theyre symmetrical.

I will have to see if I can remove the scratches on the base first
