A Yeoman Warder (Beefeater) tour guide keeps the crowd smiling and laughing during a Thursday, December 9, 2010 visit to the Tower of London by Jerry and Judy Clark
Hello. To JEC for posting this, without my knowledge or consent, I say thank you, it has made people laugh, it pleases me no end, there are many that didn't enjoy the commentary and to those I say that's okay, I do hope it's not put you off a visit to the Tower, there's such a lot more to see and do. However you feel, feel free to comment but please; there's nothing to Argue or get Angry about, so be nice. Happy Christmas & New Year Ps I'm on the same gig tomorrow!
I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful man last year when I volunteered to help plant the poppies. He came down and met us, had photos taken and was honestly a person that made me incredibly proud to be British. Such a kind and friendly man and a credit to his service. Thank you so much. X
We were fortunate enough to have Bill as a guide in September '14. It was my wife's birthday and he posed for a photo with her after his guided tour. His tour alone justified the entry fee. He brought history to life.
This man deserves a BAFTA. Totally brilliant, if history lessons were like this at school, I am sure far more interest and 'historians'. Good on yer Sgt.Maj.
I love it! This guy is fantastic. How refreshing to hear some digs at a few nationalities for a laugh, just like we used to do. It's only in fun, and not malicious. It's a sad world now where we can't laugh at each other and with each other any more without everyone being offended. This man winds the clock back. What a great character!
This guy is hilarious and tells it like it should. He kept everyone amused and well informed and everyone was paying attention to him. We need more like him. He's a star!
As a Londoner born and bred, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this at all but I absolutely loved it. Haven't been to the Tower since I was a child and this brought back so many happy memories. I'm going to go again now!
A great advert for the country and for the British Army. It's men like this who possess great character, personality, humour, intellect, recall and sheer presence that characterise all that's best about the British people. If ever history could be made fascinating and memorable here's the man to teach it. My sides are still hurting from laughter - absolutely unspeakably brilliant.
This guy is really fantastic, I love it, he's so funny and a brilliant speaker. If my history teachers at school had been more like this I'd have loved the subject!
I'm half Italian and was pleased to be included in the put-downs! funnier than 90% of British comedies on TV.....probably because he isn't avoiding offending anyone!
We just returned from a family trip to London and was AMAZED by this man just this past Friday (18 FEB 11) when we visited the Tower of London. These clips are almost word for word, what we experienced with the "charm" of Yeoman Bill Callaghan (who now sports his nicely trimmed reddish beard). Our young daughters took quite a fright to him though, but my wife and I LOVED HIM! Yeoman Callaghan is one-in-a-million and holds nothing back! We need more of this man in America!
Superb - a compelling history lesson. Arguably some of the best 12+ minutes of work time I've ever wasted. @Your Highness, that man deserves another medal!
I loved this, so refreshing to see someone these days who isnt afraid to make jokes without worrying about being Politcally Correct. Also a great way to teach history and make it memorable. I have recomended these videos to all my friends and family, thank you
Wonderful. I took my children to visit the Tower and these guides are the best laugh ever. Never forgotten it and great to relive it through this video and part 1.
I really hope that the Queen has seen this. A man who has served his country many times over and continues to do so through educational humour. I learnt more about history from watching his videos than I did throughout my whole education.
It's guys like this who enhance and enliven visits to London's greatest places of interest. I learned more from this Yeoman Warder in 12 minutes than I did in 7 years with Miss Morant!
I was honoured to be royally entertained by your brilliant tour Yeoman Warden Callaghan at the beginning of July, you are indeed a national treasure Sir and I will definitely return for another tour next time I'm in London, I hope you are the guide next time, thanks for the memories :D
I discovered this vid several months ago and I keep going back to it...As a mountain guide I'm always looking for tips and hints on how to do it better... this man is now my Guide Guru.. :) and he's Irish too.....gotta love it...reminds me of my Company Sargent in the Irish Reserves.....great stuff.
Brilliant,, I haven't been to the tower of London for 30 years, this guy has made me want to visit this historical land mark once again. I hope we get Bill as our tour guide
So very funny and informative as well. Could have listened to him for another hour. Yeoman of the guard are very lucky to have such a funny, witty person.
This man makes history come alive in such a wonderful way. I could listen to him for hours and have done so today watching all four of his episodes on youtube. I agree that he deserves another medal for services to tourism and entertainment. Long may he continue.
Thank you for posting this and the others in the series.... educational, entertaining and thoroughly brilliant! I hope that this bloke is seen by many, via your video, and then goes to hear him at the Tower. MINT!
The fact is there are very few negative comments on this video...and thank goodness for that. This is just fantastic. He's Irish. He knows his history. He is entertaining. He is able to hold an audience and inform, entertain and make people occasionally...just maybe...think. Brilliant. A Sergeant-Major - this man deserves to be Chief of the Defence Staff for his intelligence and wit and knowing what works. Great great video.
Wow. Not only historically informative, but funny to boot! Makes what he tells you easy to remember and a great show. I would be SO delighted to find him as my docent for the price of a ticket. Great!
Wow, this awesome, funny and very informative. Bill, you're a scholar and a gentleman (and you have a damn fine sense of humor). Thanks for the laugh, the knowledge, and your military service. Sincerely, A funny speaking cousin from across the pond...
He won't keep that job long. With any luck, someone will hire him and send him to Comedy Central and he will soar into the land of amazingly funny people. His delivery is pure class. He never smiled once
Simply brilliant, the sense of humour might not appeal to the ordinary PC brigade but I find it refreshing that guys like this are still about. This guy reflects the presence and charisma needed to hold the office of sergeant major in the British Army...I hope he has a long life and that he makes a lot of other people laugh on the way to his maker. If you don´t like him then I hope you don´t ever grace my dinner table as you will more than likely make me fall asleep with boredom!
I've just finished a course on visitor management at university and we had to look at the importance of customer care. I so wish I'd seen this at the time! I am so using this chap as my model in the future. Think I still might pass the link along to my lecturer and see what he thinks. Thanks for posting these :)
This guy is tremendous. If his 'superiors' are giving him a hard time they should get a grip. This guy is fantastic. If anyone takes offence they ought to harden up. He is genuinely funny and witty and a great asset to the institution for which he works. He is the sort of soldier who would have been a fantastic instructor. He is a communicator par excellence. There aren't enough of them around.
I love curmudgeon's; they are so funny, and even though they're grumpy all the time, they'd do most anything to help someone in need. This guy is hysterical; I hope he is still working there when we finally get to London. Thank you for posting this.
A wonderfully intelligent man telling history in his own, unpolitical correct way. Well done!!! Don't change a single thing. This chap makes a Londoner like myself, actually want to visit the Tower of London.
This is hands down the best tour by a tourguide of anything or anywhere I've ever watched. One day I will do this tour! One day! Hopefully it will be under Bill!

Happy Christmas & New Year
Ps I'm on the same gig tomorrow!
You're an inspiration to all tour guides. I guess some people don't get the humour of the British Isles.
Just stumbled across this, wonderfull stuff sir.
Thanks for your service, SgtMaj. Also thanks for your brilliant commentary and positive and cheerful presence in service of the Crown.
Legendary
Brilliant! Shame you had to wait 8 years for a reply! Love your humour
Right now I'm a warrant officer departing service in less than 12, this guy makes me want to head to London and hand in my application LEGEND !!!

I’d love to meet this guy. He is funny as Hell
British humor at its best.. if only my history lessons had this bloke as the teacher.
I loved it. My favourite dig was about the empty pages on French history books. And I'm French. I'd love to have a pint with this guy.
I love it! This guy is fantastic. How refreshing to hear some digs at a few nationalities for a laugh, just like we used to do. It's only in fun, and not malicious. It's a sad world now where we can't laugh at each other and with each other any more without everyone being offended. This man winds the clock back. What a great character!

If my teachers had been like this I would've paid attention at school!
boolago
Me too.
I'd nominate this chap for a Knighthood... utterly outrageous in a highly amusing way, excellent ambassador, finely tuned comic timing
My mother was in the army with this wonderful man in the 80s
He was my best man in 1985. I was his best man a few years later.
I never tire of watching this, brilliant.
A great advert for the country and for the British Army. I have been to the tower today with my dad, and it made our day after previously watching the clips of bill that we got him as our guide!
This man should be on TV. He's utterly brilliant! What a wonderful way to learn history.
I never tire of this man and his type of humour!
I'm half Italian and was pleased to be included in the put-downs! funnier than 90% of British comedies on TV.....probably because he isn't avoiding offending anyone!
So glad to hear Bill is still there, watched this video and loved it! Could watch it over and over again.

Had me in stitches. I'll have to make a trip to London to see him.Keep up the great work. Brilliant!!!
What a fantastic person. He really has the ability to deliver the facts and entertain. Peter Kaye watch out!
William Edward Callaghan is priceless, my kind of humor, love it.
Genius! This guy is utterly hilarious. Love the ultra-dry humour!!
He’s so funny! I’ve watched this so many times and actually learnt from it as well!
Thank you for your entertaining lesson. You are a legend.
Superb - a compelling history lesson. Arguably some of the best 12+ minutes of work time I've ever wasted. @Your Highness, that man deserves another medal!
Really, really clever stuff. One of the best talks/guides I've ever seen. Just brilliant
Glad you enjoyed it. He's a popular event speaker now too, I hear.
Never forgotten it and great to relive it through this video and part 1.
this has got to be one of the best you tube viewings, along with the other 3. He is amazing. Better than any history teacher I ever had. Fantastic
I really hope that the Queen has seen this. A man who has served his country many times over and continues to do so through educational humour. I learnt more about history from watching his videos than I did throughout my whole education.
I went on this same tour when I was in London two years ago! It was great! The guides there are fantastic (:
Tough-to-beat humor, I must admit! I'm returning to London soon, hope to say hi to him once again!
omg i just went to London yesterday tower to i see no no ghost
"You want men in skirts... Scotland." Hahaha classic! It's his deadpan expression that's the best!
funnier than most of todays comedians put together … brilliant!
It's guys like this who enhance and enliven visits to London's greatest places of interest. I learned more from this Yeoman Warder in 12 minutes than I did in 7 years with Miss Morant!
I'd gladly pay "top rate" to travel from the United States to England to see Yeoman Warder Callaghan performing his craft! Well done, sir!
Love this....specially the bit about history only being written by the victorious!.........
Ok I absolutely have to meet him if I ever get the chance to visit! Totally made my day 😂😂

Brilliant ,best thing I've seen on TH-cam in ages .
Loved his "Pantomime Villain" turn.....Scaring the bairns, and rightly so. :D Funny bloke, best of British. He is a Legend.
Hail Him!

Wow. Not only historically informative, but funny to boot! Makes what he tells you easy to remember and a great show. I would be SO delighted to find him as my docent for the price of a ticket. Great!

I could listen to that man talk all day. He made education fun for that group, it's likely they'll never forget him. And with good reason.
John, I believe Bill continues to be a great dinner speaker. I wish I had the kind of "delivery" talent he obviously has!
Happy to say Bill returned to work today and will be back on tours tomorrow!
He should publish bedtime stories for young children.
This guy is a great advert for the Tower of London!! He is fantastic.. I'm going to see him!! I hope he is the one who does the tour!!
Love him !! Plain talking, we need more of him.
LOL this is great. Damn straight about Henry Tudor and Shakespear.
He won't keep that job long. With any luck, someone will hire him and send him to Comedy Central and he will soar into the land of amazingly funny people. His delivery is pure class. He never smiled once

A wonderfully intelligent man telling history in his own, unpolitical correct way. Well done!!!
Don't change a single thing. This chap makes a Londoner like myself, actually want to visit the Tower of London.

Brilliant... I hope he's doing the tour when I visit in July.....
I'd be the elderly lady limping to catch up!!!!!!!!!!!
Liz: maybe that's why this series is so popular.
We come to London the second week each December! Just wanted to meet the new "international star" and have a good laugh once again!
I'm a Scot, but he's got an amazing sense of humour. Thanks for sharing.
He should be a stand-up Commedian.
This Yeoman should be given another medal,. always makes me laugh and I'm a Londoner :-)))
An award-winning performance....I was laughing all the way through.
Love the bit about the French history book! Excellent wit!!
Brilliant. I know I should get on with work but I think I have to watch all of Mr Callaghan's other videos.
