Good flying, crash, more flying and perfect juicy landing! Converted mine to EDF for hand launches, blew the canopy off the first flight and crashed. Canopy now secure with velcro and she flies awesome! Fun plane!

Not surprised that this model could still fly with so much of the wing missing. It's basically an F15 in function and with the lifting body design emulated from the real life planes, they have decent lift. There was an F15 in the Gulf War that was damaged pretty badly with almost a whole wing missing but was still able to fly and land under power. Interesting cartoon plane.
I saw a video about that F-15 flight with almost all of the wing gone. That was a very cool story, and herowing effort by those fighter pilots!
That is the funniest video, honest and most accurate for most realistic for most RC folks...crash, repair, crash. Too funny! So many of the fast stuff you review I would have plowed into the house long ago.
The pin that broke on the landing gear is 3 mm stock and one can safely assume that they used the wrong steel but there's also three flats grounded into it for the set screws so that makes it weak as well. I simply purchased 3 mm stainless steel rod and made new pins from that. FWIW E-flite 70 mm Viper landing gear drops right into this plane.
I keep a spare set of the viper retracts loaded with new pins when ever I fly this bird. It’s easier to just pull the unit then fighting with a pin. I change the pin when I get home.

The wings need an extra inch on each side. Gear are not robust enough. Makes you appreciate a true hobby grade EDF jet.

This is such a charming little plane, I love it! Seems like you were having a blast! It’s extra hilarious that it has full retracts, and just goes to show that you CAN put retracts on small EDFs (looking at you new Habu).

Great video and super cool/unique take on an F-14 by whoever created this thing. Love how it flies and rewards those can actually "fly" these days. So many planes just float unrealistically, this one actually flies on the wing and needs to be brought in hot. With a proper asphalt runway and plenty of airspeed it should do just fine on landings and takeoffs. Brian is a good RC pilot but I don't think anyone could pull off a successful landing on that short driveway with this jet. I've had an Electrifly Evader jet for years, super fast for it's size, high wing loading and lands hot. (bungee launch) Love this jet as it keeps you on your toes, will high speed stall in turns if you use too much elevator so many have met an early demise. Sadly they quit selling it years ago, I guess most couldn't keep up with it. But, these types of planes are the most rewarding to fly, IMO. (sorry for the long response!)

I really wanted this plane to succeed just because it's so cool looking! I'd buy one just to hang from the ceiling! Since they have an EDF version... if you could get one and review it for craps and giggles. It was fun to watch but really looked like a handful.

Had the prop one out again this weekend, well the gear doors are now history. Bent up the gear some more. But no broken pins this time. And the prop is no longer an 8x6. It very close to 7x6 now. But still flys great. It was nice to get 4 flights on it in between flying my F-16 and F-5.
NICE! I used a drill bit to fix my broken landing gear ;) As for the crash into the house, it's all better and ready to fly again ;)

I’d put on a smaller diameter prop if you’re hitting the ground and the motor is getting hot. Plus is probably add a rudder, but overall it’s a fun looking plane. Thank you for posting this, too funny. 😂

Have you thought about converting it to twin edf? it's for those huge cowls on the wings and you wouldn't have to worry about the prop any more...

Got this last month, such a good little flier
It totally is if you can drag out your takeoff (so you don't have to pull up too much) it's amazing in the air...it sucks you in, and captivates you as a pilot. I wonder if it's somewhat the "fear" of the weirdness, or if it's just that I LOVE F-14's???

I have one but mine has two 64mm EDF units - not flown it yet... I think it needs a long run to take off with the pusher prop and you do not really even rotate it you need to let it lift off on its own..
Given the state of the landing I suppose it’s a good thing Mav and Goose decided to eject mid flight #1🤣🤷♂️

You did better than most on that. I'm gona tale a couple weekends and build a fatty f4u out of foam board on a cold snow drifting winters day.

That's what I was trying DESPERATELY to get out of my brain!!!!!! That was super frustrating - when on camera, all math skills disappear, and sometimes simple things are just * GONE * ...then when the camera stops rolling * POOF * immediately remember it. Strange how that works.

The Fattie F-14 is really a cartoon plane, I agree with you it requires knowing how to fly because it is complicated to take off and land!
The landing gear is very fragile because the Fattie lands like a pebble.
Mine hasn't flown yet, I just made a tribute video to TopGun, I watch videos like yours to see what needs to be improved on this plane, and like you I think it's best to launch by hand, on a slope gear retracted.
I put magnets on the canopy so it doesn't fly away, I'm also going to protect the underside of the plane with a sticky film and I'm not going to mount the missiles.

I agree. This plane isn't hard to fly, but it's WEIRD to take off and land, with the pusher limiting your pitch angles...other than that, just respect the elevator limits (LOL - watch out for buildings - LOL) and you'll be fine ;)

Brian?? What in the heck, I don't even know what to say. It reminds me of the Tamiya "comical cars" they sell like the comical Hornet or grasshopper. Funny looking but pretty cool. Best part of the review is at 9:11😅😆🤣 oh and they sell it as a EDF version or pusher.

When I first saw it I was like "that is the coolest" After you flew it I'm a firm NO!
The front nose gear doors fall off all the time. The pins for the main gear break due to the fact you have to land it fast and flat. Do not even try to flair it in. For take off don’t pull up just full throttle and it will life on its own then you can pull up. If you ever need to replace the main retract units the Eflite 70mm Viper ones are the same ones they drop right in. But it’s a fun plane to fly. I have it out every weekend.
I fixed the main gear with a broken drill bit - LOL!!! I totally should have filmed the repair, as we often do, but I was like - this zombie plane isn't going to fly again, then like 25 minutes later it was 95% perfect!!!! Then I crashed into the house - LOL LOL LOL - had it fixed in like 10 minutes while we got ready to film another video, had toothpicks sticking out all over the place...she's ready to hit the skys again.
I can't believe how much fun it is to fly!!! I hope it shows, but this one is just a blast - but I realize I'm preaching to the choir.
I want to setup flaperons and tailevons, rather than tailevator...I think I could make this thing AMAZING!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I find that low rates work best on it as you can get into trouble with it at times. (Looks like a basketball in the air at times. ) I fly the prop one with a 4S 2700 and get 4mins on it and it lighter to fly. The EDF I use a 3200 and get the same time. First time I flew it I had to land after 1 min due to me and everyone else laughing to hard.
As for the main gear pins just get some 3mm rod and cut a few pins for it.
I use my DX9 just for this plane as I have uploaded Top Gun sounds to it just for these planes. Wish I could do that with my NX10. It is a blast to fly.
I want to love this plane, but at $400 shipped (EDF version), no receiver and the lack of refinement it's a risky buy. Thanks for reviewing this plane brian!

EDFs would be a great improvement on it, i would say the landing gear was an issue but those two hard strikes make me feel otherwise, its kind of a wonky build so i did expect performance to be out the window lol

Heya! I'm a newish pilot looking for a second plane for grass or dirt runways that can handle a bit of wind, and flies well at lower speeds. I'm tossing up between picking up an E Flite Cherokee and the Turbo Timber Evolution. Which one do you guys think is easier to fly?
The Evo is great but a slow roll rate and with how her aileron pushrods are set up very difficult to increase travel to achieve a high roll rate.
The Evo will be a much better choice for a plane that can handle slow flight and grass. The tricycle landing gear and wheel pants on the Cherokee will limit usefulness in rough dirt or rocky surfaces and they are much more fragile.
With the Evo being a tail dragger, she will not be that hard to deal with on the ground, as far as tail draggers go, that is. Just remember rudder control, alittle rudder is allot. The Evo has the power to jump into the air before ground handling issues may develop. The Cherokee would be a good second plane.
I would recommend the new e-flite commander mpd 1.4m over really any plane. Just an amazing plane, more fun than the Evo or Cherokee ever thought of being and more light flying and agile pluss unbeleivably stable and predictable, fast too, unlimited verticle, trust me! I fly everything and my collection is nice( not beat up from bad landings).
If you where to loose the wheel pants and put a bit larger tires on the Cherokee, then that would bring her along way towards grass and rough dirt strips, pluss then your front gear would have more durability.
Anyway hope that helps. One other thing, if you have the money and want the easiest and best edf jet ever, with tons of verticle POWER for effortless flying, get the e-flite 90mm viper. Even as a first edf!! Trully. There are others that rock at a much lower price point but the vipers off the charts and easy. As easy to land an rotate as a trainer.
