KONYA, TURKEY'S MOST CONSERVATIVE CITY? 🇹🇷

  • Konya is one of Turkey's most historical cities, and the home of Mevlana and his famous Whirling Dervish. There are old bazaars, mosques and cobbled streets to get lost in - a city not to be missed in Central Turkey.

Fun fact: the population of Bosnia & Herzegovina is approximately 3.5 million people, and the number of Bosniaks living in Turkey is estimated to be up to 2 million, so it's no wonder there are plenty of Bosnians with relatives in Turkey when the Bosnian population of the country is equal to 55% of Bosnia itself :)

A D if that’s the case then there are more Bosniaks in Turkey (2 million) then in Bosnia & Herzegovina (1.7 - 1.8 million). Interesting. It’s the same situation with Albania - it’s population is less than 3 million while 5 million Albanians live in Turkey, so Turkey has more Albanians than Albania itself.

I disagree with the fact that there are 5 million Albanians living in Turkey. Yes a lot of Turkish people are of Albanian or Bosnian descent but they are assimilated as Turkish people. Maybe 500,000 Albanians who migrated during the 20th century could be considered proper Albanian immigrants living in Turkey but not 5 million lol let's be realistic.

@Hasim Khawaja, Konya isn't fundamentalist conservative due to it's history.
It is the way it is due to it's gene pool. Inbreeding rates in Konya are through the roof compared to the rest of the country. The the inbreeding rates in Konya are obviously not as high as places like Pakistan but are probably on par with most Arab nations.
All this inbreeding has caused severe damage to the gene pool of the city in relation to other cities. Which is why this city tends to have issues like lower IQ people on average and insane levels of corruption and misery.

Mevlana is a Sufi poet who mainly wrote his poems in Persian. In western culture, he is known as Rumi. his full name is Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi (actually Mevlana and Rumi are his nicknames - Mevlana means ''our spiritual superior; godly'' and Rumi refers to the geographical location because Anatolia was referred as Rumi means Roman). anyway, the city has historical importance because it was the capital city of the Seljuk Empire and in the city center, you can visit the Imperial Palace of the sultans. in fact, i expected it to be covered (i hope you did not miss the place). yes, the city is conservative but it is quite safe and well-organized (which is a rare thing in the country). i know all these because i got my masters degree in Konya :)

Salam brother you are always welcome in Turkiye. The whole earth is Allah (swta). As long as you don't cause trouble in the land and seek to improve it, then you are most welcome.
Please don't listen to Mrs Turcica.
As for my practising turkish muslim brothers/sisters, there is no need to attack our 'secular turks' either nor to attack Mustafa Kemal.
All of our different thoughts can be utilized together to create a stronger Turkiye in shaa Allah.

    • @shiney94
      @shiney94 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

@memo kemo yeah, let's just get along. To each their own. Secular and non-secular turks have the same goal in mind. They want to make Turkey a better country. So have good intention with one another, and leave the hate behind. I live in the West, and I know how the West are planning to divide the middle-east a much as they can.
The coup that happened to Erdogan was beause Erdogan was not listening to the West. They wanted to get rid of him, but failed thanks to the turkish people.
So be careful brothers/sisters. We have a lot of enemies (muslim and non-muslim) who want to destroy this beautiful country which combines modernity and islam together like no other country.
Trust me, turkey is a golden country. and those around you want it. So let's not fight from within.

Hi Jason, Thank you for visiting Konya, I wish I could somehow have gathered the information that you would be here, I would gladly company and guide you while you were here. I live in Konya and I was born in Konya. You have shown in your Konya vlog great parts and aspects of the city but also most parts are missing. It is not to critise you but just for general information. Briefly, you should have gone to Sille Village which is the ancient base of Konya city and has a lot about history to see, you should have eaten the Etliekmek which is one of the main and popular meal of the city simply to describe bread with meat, you should have seen the Alaeddin Tepesi( Alaeddin Hill) which consists the capital city and palace of the Anatolian Seljuk Empire, and many more. Konya is called conservative but that is not coincidence, we are strictly attached to our religion and heritage but this is not only for Konya, more than %99 percent of Turkey is the same. Anyhow, if you ever come to Konya again, please type me, or anyone who wants to visit Konya, you can type and if I am available from work or etc. i will be able to show you around. Take care and have fun with your further travel experiences.

I am currently living in the Netherlands, but my roots are in Konya (as you can see it back in my name ;)). As I can say, you clearly captured the important aspects of this beautiful city. First of all, many thanks for visiting us. I hope that Konya hosted you well as it intented to do. Like our big Sufi 'Mevlana' once said: Come, no matter who/what you are, come again. We hope to see you again mate. Well done

Wow, amazing video, keep going. And about Mevlana, he's mostly known for being a poet, a philosopher (the Middle East and some of European countries). He has inspired a lot of culture and most importantly Islam on this part of the World. Can't wait for the next videos !

I am from Konya and I've lived most of my life here in this city. I happened to come across your video while I was searching for something else. It's so interesting to listen about Konya from an outside perspective. I know every bit of the places you showed and I see that you could notice quite a lot of details for a one-day visitor. Yes, Konya is a conservative city compared to many other coastal Turkish cities, 70 % of the population voting for conservative parties, for example, but this conservativeness can never be compared with other conservative Muslim cities in the Middle East. As your video also displays well, women are quite comfortable in the streets and you can go out with your girlfriend and be together at any place you want without being disturbed. I just wanted to point to this. Apart from that, your video is really nice to watch. While I was watching your video I thought I wish I had been with him while he was filming Konya because I would have really been happy to listen and see some other beauties of my city from you.

All the video is beautiful: the streets, the bazar, the night filming and the Dervishes. The dancing is unique.
