I wish Matchbox models were still being made
That was a lovely build Gary. Thanks for posting.
I built this kit a million years ago. One of the alternate schemes was jet black, with radar and rockets -- unique for a biplane.
Nice job Gary, especially the camo.
Ah Gary! I love this model! What a beautiful finish, you've made a wonderful build. Matchbox kits bring back such wonderful memories for me ( my late Father building the 1/32 Spitfire 22/24 for me) and how I started building models.. Love watching you build, I find it so relaxing. Fantastic work that man!!
Hope you're doing OK mate. Take care
Bobby 👊
I love those old Matchbox kits. I bought a 1/32 BF-109, Lysander, and Tiger Moth at a garage sale for $2.00 each. They might not be as detailed as modern kits, but they go together surprisingly good. Nice job with yours
A healthy and enjoyable dose of nostalgia with this one, Gary. 😍
Congratulations on a great build and video.
Another cracking kit...great result Gary👍👍
Ah mate, the aircrew look great.
Another lovely build video and a cracking end result Gary. 👍
Glad you like it mate! Third reveal is later this week!
Watched the kit build, loved that you've got back to what you do best.plane looks great.keep it up.😊
For an old kit that went together beautifully lovely paint job it was so relaxing just watching this video thank you Gary 👍
Well done! Still have over fourty Matchbox kits, but its so pity to build them.
Nice job and beautiful Model.. 👍
It is a quite sturdy construction compared to the Airfix one. It was difficult to assemble all the struts on the Airfix.
Keep the good work up. Once again, sorry for your loss❤
A lovely kit of a fantastic aircraft.
One of my favourite planes of all time.
Great video and build Gary, thank you.
Sadly I have never built a Matchbox kit, clearly I have missed out.
So sorry for your loss.
My family and I are praying for you and family .
That looks like a really nice kit to build. I've only ever built the Matchbox 1:32 car kits (which can be a bit tricky, but are much more finessed than the equivalent Airfix kits). The paint job looks great and I'm sure it looks splendid on display with your other kits. I think the brass bits were the pushrod tubes for the radial engine, rather than intake or exhaust.
You are probably right - I'm not completely familiar with the layout of the engine other than using a collector ring for the exhaust!
I just made the Hawker Fury from Matchbox it was so brittle the struts kept breaking I had to scratch build them but nice kit
Those pilots were brave ,moving onto to buccaneer did that have a Torpedo in its Arsenal or an up dated way to sink a boat (ship) now they could hug the waves and speed off they foxed the US navy a few times in exercises ,all the best bud
Mark 😊😊
Bombs and, later on, Martel missiles. Originally they were designed to take on the Sverdlov class cruisers by lobbing a small nuke at them. Buccs foxed the US Air Force more than once in the Red Flag exercises too. Overheard in a debrief - "I tell you old boy, I was flying so low I had to pull up to avoid a cactus."
😂😂😂😂😂
I reticently built the Airfix kit, originally from 1959 I believe, this matchbox kit looks far superior.
great looking kit not sure if i ever built one back in the day
Lovely looking model, so much better than the old Airfix one - but the question that has always bugged me is didn't the Stringbags have a crew of 3?
Apparently for some missions, like Taranto, they went with just two and took extra fuel instead.
Great Stuff! I have a couple of 1:32 Matchbox kits still in my stash. The Lysander is lovely, i've built that before. The Sea Venom not so much and the Dauntless looks to be nice also.
I notice Matchbox covered over the observers position, I assume that was because they only wanted to supply two crew figures rather than the usual three.
Have you built the Airfix Swordfish, and if so how does it compare.
Not yet built one, although i know the Airfix kit comes with a wing fold option. Also the Matchbox one has a Taranto raid decal option and I believe the omitted the third crew member in order to carry more fuel.
Very.... good
I'd forgotten how well Matchbox kits go together. Thanks Gary, that was a great fun build!
Who owns these moulds now?
Are they still in existence ?
I want one!!!
I hope everyone’s week is better than last week 🙏😌
Ian
Revell purchased many of the moulds, don't know if they still have them.
@@garys_stuff It would be great if they do and release them😊
Hello there mate that turned out nicely. I have never built a matchbox kit must see if i can find one on eBay. Your crew figures look great .something i always tend to struggle with especially 1.72 scale anyway all the best and happy modelling 👍
The crew figures at 1/72 are largely smoke and mirrors! It's creating the appearance of sharpness that's the key. Maybe I'll do another video about crews, this time in 1/72...
@@garys_stuff thanks mate I will look out for it 👍
@@garys_stuffI was admiring your figures as well. A video on how to paint them in 1/72 would be great.
Well tidy Stringbag,well tidy indeed.
