    Thanks much for the well presented reminder, of what a beautiful, peaceful place, a true piece of Appalachian history, that Hazard, Kentucky is…It’s been to many decades, but hopefully I will correct that in the year ahead…again, Thank you

    Once stayed in hazard when I was working in the area. I stayed in the hotel on top of the mountain close to town. I went for a walk late that night and when I got back my clothes actually smelled sweet. Something about really fresh air that smells so good.

    My roots are Jackson (breathitt county) Kentucky, and hazard is right there, and believe me when I say there is nothing like driving down one of them old country roads late in the evening in those hills.. Kentucky truly is a one of a kinds type of place, especially eastern Kentucky.

    Hazard is the county seat. That's vital for the fortunate few small towns still hanging around a rapidly urbanizing nation. By law, the county has to have a courthouse, and administer elections, so that tends to force a certain number of jobs and people into the city. Schools, medical facilities, grocery stores, and banks tend to follow. Just a few core government jobs can inject much-needed cash into a small-town economy.

    My mom's father lived in Hazard. His house was a 10 min walk from the police station. His name was Charlie Niece. The only time I was there. A police officer stopped by his house and brought him out to me. That was in the early 2000's. Everyone seemed real friendly that I talked to

    It appears that Hazard is trying to diversify its economy and it appears quite lively with a mix of old and new along with many small eclectic businesses. Having a lively arts and culture scene helps the town’s economic health.

    🤣 my mom had relatives here, I voted in the 80s when I was a teenager. Was my 1st experience with cows tied along the roadside. Went to the bank and had to stay in the car, because they didn't get may visitors at that time. And it was like there was a countdown 3,2 1...and a dozen or more people stepped out if those businesses and stared at us...🤣 good times!!

    The city of Hazard doesnt supoort the people of Saul. They could build a bridge across Buckhorn lake or something. But no, it takes like 20 miles to get from Saul to Hazard. My uncle died out there cause the Ambulances had to drive too far and didnt have the appropriate resources.

    • @hazardballers
      @hazardballers ปีที่แล้ว

      That has nothing to do with hazard. Saul and buckhorn are well out of city limits

    • @GSPfan2112
      @GSPfan2112 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hazardballers Hazard is the county seat. They have administrative power over Saul and Buckhorn. They have a lot to do with Saul. Youre just another example of someone who doesnt care about your fellow Kentuckians.

    • @GSPfan2112
      @GSPfan2112 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hazardballers You should look up the Perry County map and youll see how disconnected Saul is from the rest of the County, and its gone on for over 60 years. Buckhorn lake blocks Saul from getting County support from the administrative seat of Hazard. Hazard owes Saul much more than theyve ever been given.

    • @hazardballers
      @hazardballers ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doubt you’ll ever see a bridge over buckhorn lake especially just to connect Saul, I wouldn’t say it’s not that they don’t care that just doesn’t seem necessary at all build a massive exspensive bridge over a lake to connect a hollow it just won’t ever happen. Got a bunch of friends who live in squabble creek I know it sucks being isolated and what not but it’s just not worth a bridge.
