- The Las Vegas Monorail is a beautiful, total grade separated, and automated transportation system connecting many resorts and hotels on the Strip. An extention south of MGM Grand to Mandalay Bay is approved and construction should start soon. Plans to extend to the McCarren Airport are also in developement and are vital to the success of this monorail system!
Connecting the Monorail to the airport will indeedly make it VERY successful when you can drive to the hotels with it.
It makes me very angry that they didn't connect the monorail to the airport from the very beginning! The airport is only 1 mile away from the last station on the monorail! If they would have done this, ridership on the monorail would be much higher than it is today. They said that the taxi unions were too strong, and they blocked the monorail from serving the airport. So stupid.

O Aeroporto não deixou a CPTM(Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos) fazer a ligação, e agora temos que pegar um ônibus ao sair do Expresso Aeroporto para chegar lá

cool. I didn't know they had a monorail. I haven't been back in a while. Every big city should have one. definately needed. Everyone knows you always start from the airport and go from there. No surprise it's probably hard to make that happen when money is involved. hopefully it will happen.
The Las Vegas Monorail would be very solvent and successful if it were to connect to the new Raiders Stadium.
I was here in 2016 and still doesn't look much different. Too bad the route is so short but it's a comfortable ride back to your hotel at night!

That’s nice I went to Vegas 3 weeks ago for winter break and thought the Monorail was still running until I found out it stopped running on March 17 cause of COVID
I'm sure it will come back at some point, it's not dead yet. If the Seattle Monorail can come back, then so can the Las Vegas Monorail.

How many passengers per day/hour can transport this system?
Dunno, but they get crazy stupid crowded with any trade show or convention.
Well, each train has seats for 72 and can hold 150 standing, and the system owns 9 trains. It takes about 15 minutes to travel the whole length of the system, so technically in one hour each train could make two complete round-trips, so ... almost 4000 people each way in an hour? Theoretically.
In practice ridership is generally low and they boast that during "citywide trade shows" they see about 67,000 riders.
Pro-monorail people say the ridership is low because the monorail isn't on the strip and entrances are not very well marked so many people don't know about it or can't find it. And ticket prices are high. And it doesn't go to the airport.
Anti-monorail people say ridership is low because it was never a good idea to build it.

I attended the LVM grand opening ceremony in July 2004. Nobody beats Vegas, baby, when it comes to opening a transit line. Copious amounts of food, drink, live music, fireworks, and a simulated helicopter assault. 14 years have passed and the music in the stations is still too damn loud.
I would have loved to have gone! Sounds like quite the spectacle!
@@Luke_Starkenburg It truly was. Each station had a buffet set up with several chefs attending to the guests' needs. People were station-hopping to try out the variety of excellent grub. It was like the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival for a night, only free. I shot hundreds of photos but it was too dark for decent video. The inaugural runs were incredibly crowded so we (myself and a bunch of friends from The Monorail Society) rode the entire line the next morning to shoot photos and video. It was very memorable and a good time was had by all.

I actually want to go to Las Vegas next month during CES. I want to see the monorail running every 5 minutes using all available trains to increase frequency. I also hope that one day soon, they will extend the monorail to the airport. Its idiotic that they don't do that already!!
@@Luke_Starkenburg He certainly was! Both of us were also in attendance at the APTA Expo in 2002 at the LVCC and spent an hour or so chatting with the Bombardier reps. We photographed some of the LVM construction sites and the Mark VI prototype with the "warp lights." A few of my photos were still on the website the last time I checked. Our paths crossed several times in the early 2000s. I was quite saddened to learn of his passing a few years ago.
The Las Vegas monorail is not that exciting to watch. I was thinking that it would go to the Airport and never happen. I thought it would go to North Las Vegas and that never happen. Now Las Vegas is thinking of put in a light rail system. UH what ever!
The airport link may happen. After the Mandalay Bay expansion is built (it should start construction soon) they will look into the airport extension. I think it should have happened 10 years ago!!

All Aboard Fun thank you, I really like your video too!! The shots were filmed on three separate visits to Las Vegas. A lot of it was taken with my iPhone but some were taken with my bigger Cannon G-30 camera with zoom.

That's what the old WDW monorails looked like. Because that is an old WDW monorail. Really.
@@lwilton Er, yes and no. When the Las Vegas monorail first started, they were using Walt Disney World's old Mark IV's (WDW didn't need them as they now had the Mark VI's). That was still the case when I visited in 2002. However, these trains are not them. They are referred to as "Mark VI's" in another comment, but there are important differences between these trains and the Mark VI's in WDW. Still, if you think of the ones in WDW being a customized version, I could see it.
When I rode the first LV monorail back in 1997, it was so cool to ride the old WDW monorails of my youth again (I lived in Sarasota, now in Orlando). Mind you, I agree with the upgrade; they're better train designs. Still, it was cool.

The monorail in Moscow is a bad example of monorail technology. If they wanted to build a real transportation, they should have gone with Hitachi or Bombardier.

Vegas isn’t for everyone! When we were there, we took day trips to the natural wonders around the area like Red Rock Canyon, Mt Charleston, and the Hoover Dam. We caught some shows and concerts in Las Vegas in the evening. After 4 days, we were ready to leave all the lights and noise of the casinos.

Your missing the point. It was built by the casinos to transport customers from one casino to another within their ecosystem. Not for commuting or mass transit. Basically it's like a Disneyland ride.
