Wow! The view of the Mumbai look cool when You in the Monorail.. You can see it clearly all .. Nice video, Thank You Mumbai Municipal Council because used & trusted the SCOMI MONORAIL love you from 🇲🇾
Congratulations India for having such a great and modern transportation system.. And thanks to Scomi, a Malaysian's company for developing this great metro rail system for our fellow Asia's neighbour.. =)
This is a well made video giving a good account of the new Mumbai Monorail. It looks similar to the Kuala Lumpur Monorail. On a recent visit to India, I saw new metro lines being constructed in Delhi and Jaipur, the above ground sections are going to give great views over the cities they serve, it seems such a shame that Sydney can no longer be seen from the Monorail. Well done Luke.
Timsvideochannel1 Mumbai Monorail looks similar to Kuala Lumpur Monorail because this metro system was built by the same company, Scomi, a Malaysian company.. =)
Amazing work Luke, well done! This really shows off the capabilities of monorail, I expect Mumbai Monorail will set the example for many, many more in Asia and elsewhere. Your video will definitely help spread the word too!
Mumbai seems like only city on globe with all modes of local commute. (For all those who feel this is not enough) It does have Metro Local busses (5000+) Taxis Rikshaws And yes Legendary Sub urban railways with 450+ km tracks and more than billion riders every year. Good case study.
It needs every public transport possible considering the amount of people commuting daily. Metros and monorails are good investments. They will show their results in the next 10-15 years
Dan O thank you. If the monorail becomes disabled, the riders have to be rescued via ladder. Most modern monorails now have an emergency walkway in between the tracks for the entire route. This monorail doesn’t have that safety feature.
Really great video mate. I was wondering if there are any tall standpoints, like say 4 or 5 storey buildings, or any buildings that you can get to the rooftops, to get high shots of these monorails?
+mancunian4life86 The route is lined with tall building, however, they all have guard shacks. I asked a few places if I could go up to take pictures but was refused. If I could just makes friends with someone that lives in these buildings!
@@Luke_Starkenburg It's in New Delhi, not Mumbai. There isn't a single proper video of the airport express shot from the ground.I really like your Shanghai Maglev video.Something similar to that
What's the advantage of this over an elevated two rail train or light rail? It's just as much an eyesore, but it's very slow. This can't be going over 35 mph; the elevated trains in Chicago have a top speed of 55 mph.
I hope it is maintained properly not just the train but also the pillars etc. already stained and looking 10years old why did they put a bend at 4.44 when they could build anywhere
slums are in every major cities of the world, in america, eurozones, and everywhere else they are called projects or ghetto ... the only difference you see in south asia is that they are obvious and in your face unlike america for example, where they masked by tall building cells which house these poor low income households
Misso Productions best effort to be done to eradicate poverty and slums. It is saddened some enjoys extreme wealth but another lives on extreme poverty.I love india.. From kuala lumpur.
If you dont know this slums have flat screen Tv's, high speed wifi and air conditioning. These people just dont want to migrate to outer suburbs where they have made apartments for them to rehabilitate. They rather rent those apartments out and stay in those slums. Its a conscious choice for many of them. They are greatly involved in politics or they want to live in a tight knit community.
.I am from the U.S.A. This rail seems very short. Just about 7 miles . Can someone tell me if there is construction going on to extend the monorail line?
The video (at 0.30 seconds) explains that a second phase of the monorail is under construction and is scheduled to open in 2015. From Wikipedia, 8.9 km is currently operational. When the rest of the line opens, it will be nearly 20 km long. So to answer your question, yes there is construction going on to extend the monorail line. In fact about 95% of the track for the extension is already in place. Most of the stations are in various stages of construction.
+hanafi tanudjaya The trains are 4 cars long, and the stations are built to accommodate 6 car trains, so there is room for expansion of the train-sets.
I agree! All the stations are built to accommodate 2 trains coupled together for a total of 8 cars. Hopefully when the extension opens in 2016 or 2017, ridership will necessitate the need for 8 car trains.
Mono rails look to me as being an expensive way to do something. Look at all the cement that goes into building them. While they are safer, trains at ground level don't require all the fancy towers. Just lay track and that is it.
Why does the concrete look like it's 10 years old when it just opened. Look especially at the cross beams on the pilons. I'm sure in Luke's video on the Tokyo monorail they are no worse than this and they're 50 years old. Also, those turns look really tight and the speed isn't high; the chisel front of the vehicle is just excessive faux-aerodynamics. Thanks for another great video. BTW. If you want to see and India stand-up comic taking the piss out of the monorail here it is: th-cam.com/video/1aJ_VLlBPKo/w-d-xo.html
It looks 10 years old because it probably took that much time to build. And there is no concept of painting in India. So because of the dust even in one year it looks as if its 10 years old.
The track construction was complete in 2012, so the track was about 2 years old before the system opened. All concrete structures look old in Mumbai, no-matter how new.

Also, my video shows the monorail in the first week of operation, where thousands of people were riding the monorail just to experience this new form of transportation in Mumbai.
+RAJ JADHAV There are connections to the suburban rail system. From Chembur, its a 2 block walk to the suburban rail station. With the new extension opening soon in 2016, there will be 2 more connections to the suburban rail network.
