Super informative...i have the p1 Gen 3....the new screen size, audio, and security features (biometrics) make this purchase almost a no-brainer....the only thing holding me back is the fact that my p1 Gen 3 is just so dang reliable, I've never had any issues with it.

Nice design; too bad they didn't turn the unit on. Also, Gen 4 key travel is 1.5mm, down from 1.8mm in the Gen 2 & 3 models.

    • @mini9503

This... is incredibly disappointing to hear.
For me Lenovo's keyboard was the ONLY reason to choose the X1 Extreme over Dell, HP, Asus, Acer, and MSI's workstations. Now that reason is gone, I'll have to consider other options. HP ZBook Studio and MSI Creator Z16 are looking really good, I'm not a fan of redesigned XPS keyboards either. Now instead I will probably buy the redesigned MSI Creator, it looks fantastic with their usual good keyboard. I hope Lenovo reads these feedback, sees some sense, and switches back from "mediocre" to a "great" keyboard on ALL their recently disappointing Thinkpads.
Because Lenovo, you've just given up your only advantage against competing brands.

    • @derek400004

1.5mm vs 1.8mm is not a world of change if they also tweaked the way the keys actuate - i think it makes good sense. i'd rather have a slimmer device than the 3mm of key travel that can be replicated in a 1.5mm setup

    • @robertwalker2677

@@Multihunter95bg Maybe this 0.3mm less is just because of the keyboard "Soft Landing" design? 8:23

The day I bought the Y410P I spent almost 6 months of my salary to get it. When I used the battery management software the battery would not charge upon plugged in, I had to remove the battery, boot the pc and replug the battery in for it to charge and be recognized and Lenovo would not recognize it as as a software error on their part to fix it. I have been very afraid to purchase anything lenovo since then. These thinkpads are barely the mobile workstations when you can get something similar for less than half the price.
Businesses can write off huge taxes to purchasing these products and they have these junks priced accordingly. For the consumer I recommend purchasing these second hand or purchasing other machines altogether.

Weird that the psref has the Xeon version limited to 6 cores and no 8 core option.
I really hope there is a video output MUX to allow display outputs via USB-C to be directly connected to the Intel iGPU and optionally switched to dGPU.
Looks really good otherwise, though I'm suspicious of the keyboard's reduced travel (1.8 to 1.5mm).
A higher refresh rate screen with Freesync 2 pro would have been a good bonus.

60hz, and frankly you don't need more. 120hz just eats battery life, and if you are so inclined, all prior generations of these machines have allowed end user panel swaps and many owners run 120hz FHD panels in their prior P1/X1E machines.

@@henryatkinson1479 Most high-refresh laptops give you an option to automatically switch to 60/30Hz to save battery. As an occasional gamer, I would've at least liked to see an option for 500nit QHD 165Hz panel like many gaming laptops use.

@@jm.aurelio27 Thats the P1 Gen4, not the P15 Gen2 or P17 Gen2. They are not the same. Go read the full press release and the PSREF pages before commenting and making yourself look like an idiot.
EDIT: Also once you spec a P15 or P17 its going to be just as expensive or more expensive than the P1. The P1 has a higher base price since it has a higher base spec. Its always been that way.

    • @jm.aurelio27
      @jm.aurelio27 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Alright, I have a little bit of research on the P15 Gen 2 and P17 Gen 2, they almost have the same specs as the P1 Gen 4, but the difference was there is no 16:10 aspect ratio, vapor cooling is questionable, and it is way cheaper than the P1, so that's why the features are cut off from the other two. Imagine a video about a new promising car, where 2 employees just talk about it for 15 minutes, show it from one inconvenient angle only, then disassemble the engine, but never actually turn it on or show how it drives - makes total sense, right?!
I know this is not a full review, but spending time&effort on advertising new 16:10 without actually showing it working - why?! Apple would def do the opposite, thus 1000x sales.
And c'mon - this PR video is in 1080p - could at least use QHD(won't even mention 4k). Lenovo is selling $$$$ products but can't deliver their marketing material in the modern standard.
