- For this one, since the final boss itself is just a sort of redo of the Vellumentals, I had the idea to feature a Water Vellumental sprite animation by the talented Bimmy Lee. With this, I'll be wrapping up the Origami King remixes for a little while and moving to some spooky Halloween stuff. Let me know if you have any suggestions for anything particularly spooky!

Can we talk about the redemption arc *paper* bowser went through throughout the paper Mario series?
He went from being the main villain to being a background character to being corrupted by evil power to a playable character and now, his entire frikin troupe is on your side
I gotta say, this is a very cool concept (especially because the bad guys are on your side), but the development reasons behind it kinda stink. They did it as a substitute for original characters, which is honestly dumb. But they did it in such a way that you could be friends with a goomba let’s say but also fight one. This would have been difficult if all the enemies were also allies, which is why all your opponents are origami. Like I said, this IS cool to see when playing, but original characters would have been nice
Bowser also gets some development because of Kamek and Jr.
Adding on to this idea, this is not only the first and only Paper Mario game, but the first and only Mario RPG game in general, to NOT include a battle against Bowser in any way, shape, or form.

This dude learned from many other hard videogame final bosses... ALWAYS use your strongest attacks, going easy on the hero always gets you killed.
This dude used this at an extreme, spamming only the strongest attacks he had.
Yeah. Just make sure not to make the same mistake Ludwig did in Superstar Saga. (That would be to make your strongest move able to be countered.)
I like how that unlike the Vellumentals he copied, Olly does nothing but spam their ultimate attacks.

Origami King was the breath of fresh air Paper Mario desperately needed. And King Olly was actually a pretty decent villain. For some, I understand why being scribbled is a pretty weak and dumb reason to be evil. But in origami, scribbling goes against origami customs. Then again, Olly contradicted himself with using the Legion of Stationary, which all those bosses go against Origami customs as well.

Well the legion of stationary where meant as a weapon he used on others in a way. He would never staple himself only others. He would never let coloured pencils draw on him.
Well think about if you had a mark on you for life that was purposefully given to you by your creator. Whether it was for positive reasons or not you'd be pretty pissed.
Traditional origami allows coloring, cutting, taping, etc.
The whole "don't do anything to the paper except folding" thing is a relatively recent origami style. It's not a hard rule, just encouraged for modern practitioners looking for the extra challenge. The Origami Craftsman, and by extension Olly, are traditionalists as seen by their use of the LoS as origami-making tools.
Olly wasn't upset at being scribbled on, exactly.
It actually being a note didn't matter. He perceived it as a flaw that was intentionally added to his design by his creator. Heartfelt message or not, he was offended at having been written on in the first place. Anyone would be upset if they were effectively tattooed against their will, especially an origami kid who was created with the sole purpose of representing the best of origami as the Origami King. Even though his outward appearance was fine, Olly could never truly embody his reason for existing, knowing about his internal flaw.
Paper Mario ONLY needed that breath of fresh air after Nintendo fucked it up with sticker star and color splash. It was a fix to a self inflicted problem
It was still a fun game tho.
The year is 2020 and the newest paper mario villain is attempting genocide on toads. That's something I never would have seen coming

TOK could've been a lot darker if a lot of the disturbing stuff was in plain sight. Like, what I mean, is for example, Bobby useing his best friends fuse to well, y'know. It was dark and depressing, and most of that was IMPLIED darkness, like, when you kinda just, randomly halfway through the day, realize how insanely dark useing your best friends corpse to explode is. Or the fact that, bobby's first memory he remembered is his friends dying, like that's dark as crap but never really talked about in that part of the game.
I love how Intelligent Systems portrayed their character limitations in Olly's dialouges.
"They're all the same"
Olly wasn't angry at the Toads for being "all the same". He was mad at the Origami Craftsman, who happens to be a Toad, and got upset whenever he saw the people that reminded him of the one who essentially tattooed him at birth.
For what it's worth, Olly would have hated the Toads in the older games as well.

@@FanofGuardianTales fun fact: this is a common misconception, in the manual it actually says he turns them into the bricks not the blocks. Every time a block is destroyed, the brick separates. Meaning he is merely freeing the toads from being stuck together.

Funny how this theme was my favorite out of all the final boss phases, just wish there was more to this fight than what it was... (Second time fighting him, I managed to take him out in 4 moves, and he only used 2 forms...)
Also, that Olly Water Vellumental sprite is BOSS!
I honestly love the facts:
1 his first from is basically Olivia and the vellumentals. With him mocking us on every little mistakes (instead we Olivia helping us when we do mistakes).
2 the fact that his second phase is like a macho battle with extra steps.
3 that the final phase is the final puzzle of a puzzle game (and yes I know that is something random to like)

Origami King’s soundtrack is amazing and it translates so well into 8-Bit. Great work on all these remixes, Tater. For a spooky remix, maybe Lavender Town? I feel that would be a fitting start.

Well there are multiple renditions of Lavender Town. He could easily choose one of the ones that aren’t 8-Bit like the one from Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee.

Watching this made me think of an idea for the Olly fight. He could cheer to his folded soldiers like you can cheer to toads, and you have to pick up the coins he throws or he heals/gets stronger

Olivia could have used her wish to save everyone who got turned into Origami and killed by Mario, but instead wasted it because Nintendo has a quota for dead partners in Paper Mario games.

I kind of wish Olly had more unique forms than just reskins of the vellumentals. Like, imagine him turning into giant origami weaponry, like swords and hammers. That would be cool

A very well done remix of King Olly's theme! I'm greatly surprised by how well this translated into 8-bit.
As for your statement on spooky tracks for 8 bit remixing this halloween, if you do wind up seeing this, I'd suggest "Unfinished Business" from Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. Very underrated song (actually, I'd say a lot of the soundtrack goes underrated), and definitely a creepy tune for this year. Just a suggestion if you see this. Have a nice day!
