I just have to say this: the fact that it's virtually impossible to tell when he's acting versus when he's not is a true testament of just how skilled and talented of an actor he is.
Actually, being able to differentiate between yourself and the character is something every actor needs to be able to do. He absolutely does this in the beginning of the song when he "breaks character", but you can tell where he stops and where the character begins. This is a skill used especially when monologuing, as you need to slate as yourself, pause, slip into the character, and start. Then when you end, you must show that you're not the character. It's something directors look for and every actor must be able to do.
@@simonecoolpenguin I think what the original comment means it that he's able to put himself into his character. So at the beginning of restarting the song, he puts some of his own personality into the nervous acting from the song. That makes it harder for the average viewer to differentiate between his acting and true feelings.
So not being familiar with this song I totally thought he was adlib'ing at the beginning only to find out it's written that way and that only made it seem even more brilliant.
exactly, he put himself into the song. put himself in the character. he used his awkward false start to make the song awkward. and it's absolutely BRILLIANT.
Same! Since first listening to this, I have listened to several versions of this song since then, and I realized that that's how it was written!! XD (P.S. I love Ben Frankhauser's version of both this one and "to Kiss a Girl"!!!)
I love this version so much. There are so many versions but Jeremy's version...it's like he is actually talking to someone. Pleading his case for the first time, nervous and unsure about their response but steadfast in his feelings in such a way that he almost even shocks himself. But, of course, this is typical from him. He really has a way of reaching people and making them feel what he's singing. It's both wonderful and terrible for people like me who are easily overwhelmed by intense emotion.
I just--oh my. Its like falling in love. Aaron's and Jeremy's are both incredible in totally different ways. Its impossible to decide which one is "better." Aaron sings it like he's giving her something she's always wanted. Like it was something she brought up before and this is him giving her everything she's ever wanted. And Jeremy sings it like this is everything HE'S ever wanted. The desperation is heartbreakingly beautiful. Like she is the center of his world and he wants her to himself ♥
I love seeing how artists like Jeremy just take a song and make it something so incredibly expressive. They get so into it. You can see it in their eyes, how much they love preforming. Damn, this is why theatre means the world to me. Every thespian can relate to that feeling you get onstage, am I right? Or am I right?
delaney greenway You're absolutely right! I was Benny in In the Heights last week and man it's so hard to describe that feeling you get onstage but it's a euphoria. 😍
Give me Jeremy's eagerness, Aaron's smoothness, Grant's vulnerability and vibrato, and Colton's perfectly executed runs and that would be the ideal version of this song.
all those guys sing it great, but Jeremy's version is a tad better. his accuracy, strength in his voice, uniqueness of tone, and his willingness to explore new phrases and notes throughout is what makes him different.
Best version of this song, hands down!! He owned it and I love the more "generic" lyrics, leaving "Sam" out and thankfully no improvised twang when he sings "country song"! This version is for anyone!
I've got to say I felt 'safer' listening to you perform this song than I have with many other performers, who tend to rush and push far too hard. Instead you gave us space to sit with you and didn't allow nerves to conquer you whilst trying to portray the nervousness of the song (if that makes any sense). There's a real difference between portraying emotion onstage and letting it overtake you, which can put an audience on edge, and you struck the balance there perfectly.
I love this man and his gift of acting through a song. He's charismatic in the most genuine way. I had the joy of working with him in Bonnie & Clyde. I knew he was special then. I'd go listen to him sing anytime anywhere. A true gem.
I really like the way that Jeremy made himself seem very nervous to be asking. It's a nice change from the usually earnest way you see people performing this.
Saw other versions of this song and by far, Jeremy's version is the most heartfelt, the most seamless rendition. He did change some lines which is good as anyone can sing this to his/her loved one not named Sam. And he belts those notes so effortlessly. He just seems so natural in this song, both as a singer and as an actor.
i love his 'say the word and im already there' at 4:30 coz usually other singers scream at that part but he made it sound so much more romantic by singing it the way he did
Maryee Handsoap the original musical was called The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown with most of the same songs (this was one of them) they just recently decided to bring it back under a new name (The Mad Ones) with Ben playing Adam...the shows about to close in two days and i’m devastated that i didn’t get to see it with Ben since he’s been on vocal rest the whole run until last week
"I have these plans, I have all these plans." The way he switches emotion between these two just kills me. It goes from sort of making fun of himself, to that desperate admission, and it's -beautiful-.
I love his version of this song. He convinces me every time to pack up the car and run away with him. His wife is one lucky woman and his mannerisms are frankly adorable!
I have a friend named Sam, so it’s nice to finally find a version where the Sam is left out 😭 I’ve been wanting to show him this song for a while, but didn’t want him to think that it was a lowkey declaration of love
I love how he starts the song as Jeremy and you can see the shift when he goes into character. The audience is stunned into silence. This is perfection.
Grace Nern tbh I've never seen a more emotional and beautiful cover. He is Adam he said at the beginning he was so nervous hahaha. Matt Doyle I think does the best vocally but Michael Arden is now my second for sincerity
A talented performer who eases from reality and engages into a song effortlessly so you cannot determine where he ends and the acting begins. He’s amazing.
a guy at my school sang this tonight. he said run away with me and apparently my brain to mouth filter is broken because I basically yelled okay in the middle of the auditorium. needless to say we made eye contact the rest of the night
4:36 - 4:44 why nobody talking about the lil smile and pause to when he rests his chin on the mic bc that part is the Absolute Highlight of this entire video
It does not matter how many times I hear Jeremy Jordan built out those beautiful perfectly toned seemingly effortless notes in old or new videos. I am always in awe. He's so good.
Yep. Jeremy owned this song. Better than Aaron and the other guys. Best version in terms of both singing and acting. Heartfelt and seamless. He belts those notes effortlessly.
+Antonio Crisostomo I love everyone's version for different reasons. Can't get enough of Aaron's voice, Jeremy's so funny and so cute, and Michael (Arden, who also does an awesome version) is like the most innocent, adorable thing you will ever see. Grant gustin also does this version, but it's pretty old and the quality of the vid isn't great
Each version differs. Michael Arden’s lover is hopelessly in love, Aaron Tveit’s is more commanding in his plea; but Jeremy Jordan’s lover is not so sure, crazy in love, but thinks he’s a loser. I love how Jeremy brings his considerable skills to do this, breaking up the melody and phrasing and acting the pants off it.
So I have never heard anything about or by Jeremy before, only his name. Just randomly saw this and decided to watch. Seriously within the first 5 seconds, I was in love with him. Time to stalk him in every piece of broadway he has ever even looked at!!!!!
Madison Wiggins yes!! I saw him in Newsies (the Broadway movie) and fell in love! He is such a good singer and puts so much emotion into everything he does. He’s also in the TV show Supergirl if your interested.
Jeremy Jordan is such a human and sincere performer, and that’s what I love about him. He makes us feel like he’s singing directly to us, like this is some person we know, and it takes a special ability to connect like that.
I love how the audience be like " oh wow, what's next????" and then they're so dumbfounded by the performance they didnt realise that the song ended... and then the crowd wakes up to clap, madly ;) love it
Lost count of how many times I have watched this now. His sincerity in singing this is amazing 💜🎤🎶 To go from being funny and having a comical edge to the beautiful urgency he conveys so effortlessly is amazing!! His phrasing is perfection and he totally made this his song. I have my bags packed... I am ready to throw you the key Jeremy🔑🗝
Every time I watch this, I can't help smiling. His voice always makes me melt...but him singing this song...ahhh there are no words for how wonderful this is.
After 6 years of listening to the Michael Arden version, the lyric changes in this version threw me for a loop! Oh, Jeremy Jordan. So dreamy and talented.
This is such a beautiful song. And an absolutely perfect performance of it. I can't imagine how it could be better sung. But then, that's Jeremy Jordan. Perfection.
This video was the first time I ever heard this song and I legitimately thought that the song actually started around 1:12 or something because I thought the beginning was just Jeremey being Jeremey
I find myself coming back to this version of this song over and over. We'll be on the road like Jack Kerouac, Looking back Almost raining Let me be your ride out of town. Let me be the place that you hide Run away with me. California dreams here we come Romeo is calling for Juliet Ready, set Now you're ready. Let's go Anywhere. Say the word and I'm already there! Run away with me.
This song is epically amazing and i like the light hearted start...makes it a little more vulnerable. That whole nervousness you get when you know something perfect is so close!! Jeremy Jordan did Kerrigan and Lowdermilk proud!!! Bravo to everyone! and this has to be one of the most beautifully written songs...piano...guitar...it can never go wrong!
The little lafter at 4,11🥰 cant believe how good this man is and how good he already was 8 years ago. His voice but maybe even more his way of telling the story. Every story. He grabs my heart.❤️
"I'm bad with words"
Proceeds to sing one of the most eloquent songs in the show
it's one of the lyrics at the beginning ;)

When he sings "Call me crazy but I'm much crazier for you" he started playing with his wedding ring and I may have died a little.
Kiersten McAdoo YASS 2:32 😍
I wish my husband could sing like this
YASSSSSS
Me, realizing he's married: 😁😀🙂😐🙁😭
Absolutely
I have unrealistic standards because men like Jeremy Jordan exist.
Kayla M Cook men? There are more others like him?!? Where?
Kayla M Cook me too and I'm a straight guy 😂
Its hurtful that way.
I feel this-
Same!
That was definitely The Most adorable, cute-as-hell, small-boy-nervous-happy-style performance EVER.
i strive to be like him fr
the way he said "I'M SO NERVOUS" oh my god
I can't believe I had to scroll down this far to find a mention of this. It's so CUTE. Ugh.

The way he was acting it out probably made it even more confusing. I understand how you would have been
His power over the audience... to go from having them laughing one second to dead silent and riveted by his performance the next second is phenomenal
THIS COMMENT SECTION IS SO PURE IT MAKES MY HEART WARM

I am a very straight man... until it comes to Jeremy Jordan :')
Jeremy Jordan is such a human and sincere performer, and that’s what I love about him. He makes us feel like he’s singing directly to us, like this is some person we know, and it takes a special ability to connect like that.
an incomprehensible amount of love for this song and Jeremy Jordan. oh my lord.
No need to ask Jeremy - yes, I will run away with you.
My thoughts exactly lol
This found me when I needed it the most. Thank you. How special he is. I believed every word. True inspiration.
I love how the audience be like " oh wow, what's next????" and then they're so dumbfounded by the performance they didnt realise that the song ended... and then the crowd wakes up to clap, madly ;) love it
His voice enchanted me so much, that it took me listening to this 5 times to realize that the background changed!!!!!!
It took me 10 times and this comment to realize 😅

Every time I watch this, I can't help smiling. His voice always makes me melt...but him singing this song...ahhh there are no words for how wonderful this is.
I sang this song at my auditions to theatre schools 4 years ago, and it got me in, and i will always be thankful for it! Beautiful version
Honestly when he sang the first "Run away with me" My heart exploded 😍❤❤❤❤❤
After 6 years of listening to the Michael Arden version, the lyric changes in this version threw me for a loop! Oh, Jeremy Jordan. So dreamy and talented.
This is such a beautiful song. And an absolutely perfect performance of it. I can't imagine how it could be better sung. But then, that's Jeremy Jordan. Perfection.
This my friends is why TH-cam exists. Boy has mad skills.

He has the voice of an angel....I can't handle it.
yeah he's sooo good

Get the car packed and throw me the key.
Run away with me.
I'm not trying to make you a wife here,
I'm not trying to tie you down.
I'm just saying there may be a life here -
A new one as soon as we run.
Run away with me.
Mississippi mud - watch me slide.
We'll be on the road like Jack Kerouac,
Looking back
Almost raining
Let me be your ride out of town.
Let me be the place that you hide
Run away with me.
California dreams here we come
Romeo is calling for Juliet
Ready, set
Now you're ready.
Let's go
Anywhere.
Say the word and I'm already there!
Run away with me.
God bless you, you perfect human 👑💓
This song is epically amazing and i like the light hearted start...makes it a little more vulnerable. That whole nervousness you get when you know something perfect is so close!! Jeremy Jordan did Kerrigan and Lowdermilk proud!!! Bravo to everyone! and this has to be one of the most beautifully written songs...piano...guitar...it can never go wrong!
i’m sorry but this is iconic
This is the best version I've ever heard of this song, and it's one of my favorites!!!
I would pack a bag and leave right now for this man. Ya know what, screw the bag, take me now!!!!
The little lafter at 4,11🥰 cant believe how good this man is and how good he already was 8 years ago. His voice but maybe even more his way of telling the story. Every story. He grabs my heart.❤️
