    Taken it on so many multi Treks including Kilimanjaro, Everest base camp never given me a single issue. nothing is a comfortable and ergonomical as this. Even proper hiking packs from Osprey can't compete.

    Great video. Nice to see how you stocked your bag. I actually have a pair of the Gyrfalcons coming. I too am from Colorado and plan to use a 3 layer military style sleeping bag. The only draw back with it is that it weighs 10 pounds. What sort of bag do you use?

    Great video. Just bought the Gyrfalcon in khaki/foliage from a seller on ebay last week. I'm pretty stoked about it considering how hard this bag is to find. Currently using a Falcon III and it's a great bag but I should have the Gyrfalcon in a few days and I'm looking forward to getting it set up. I've got a jumbo versipack that I use for EDC so I'm going to go check out that video next. Always nice to get a fresh perspective and new ideas.

      Thank you Christopher, I hope you are happy with the Gyrfalcon. I really like mine and the versatility it has. The Falcon III is a great bag as well, we use it as a Family GHB in our family vehicle (th-cam.com/video/lnqN7buz2oM/w-d-xo.html). You'll gain a bit more space in the Gyrfalcon (only about 1L) but I really like the detachable part of the bag. Thanks for watching!

      I'm really happy with mine. It will be about 15L smaller then the Rush 72, but I found room for everything I needed and it helps me to make sure I'm in the right weight range. They are hard to find at the moment, but supposedly Maxpedition is having more made. Thanks for watching!

    Will this fit a heavier set fella? I have the condor I think it is, ah what a joke of a small bag, it’s obvious this gry falcon is larger, but what about waist strap will it go around a 40 inch waist, and shoulder straps, are they adjustable for a larger upper body. Body builder type body? Cause I like the looks of this bag, thanks oh and what if any sustainment pouches would fit good on the sides?

    • @Dynastypreppers
      @Dynastypreppers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will indeed. I'm not a small person by any means. 6' tall with broad shoulders. Waist strap comfortably fits 44" waist. Waist strap maxes out at 64". Personally I find it extremely comfortable with some awesome features. And Maxpedition just got these back in stock a day ago. They go quick so if you want one I'd pick it up now.

    That 5 X 7 Tarp also caught my Eye. What Brand is it, where did you buy it & how much did it cost? Have you field tested it yet? What is its thickness in Mils?

    • @Dynastypreppers
      @Dynastypreppers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bruce, I haven't field tested the tarp yet. Its on my list to do, just haven't had time yet. The tarp is made by Outdoor Products (amzn.to/2hjpIhm) and is a thin urethane coated fabric (nylon perhaps?) It has several grommets (which could tear out rather easily), I usually prefer using tarp clips as well. Its big enough to make a small ridge-line, but I would be concerned about it lasting through higher winds. I have found a few reviews on youtube if you search for the product name.

    Have you gone out hiking with this pack on your back? Have you done it in the rain, snow, extreme heat or in a day with low visibility after an exceptionally long trek? You should. I saw your inhaler and heavy loads like that will cause you serious trouble in those situations that in a “society collapse” type of thing, help won’t be coming for you. So, if I were you, I’d get to pushing your body to its limits before limits push you. Good luck

    • @Dynastypreppers
      @Dynastypreppers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good Evening Aaron and thank you for watching the video. I have indeed hiked with this bag on several occasions in various weather. I also often hike with a Deuter child carrying backpack and a child over 40 pounds, plus gear. As I am sure we can all agree on, we prepare for the worst while hoping for the best. Carrying an inhaler is one of those items. I haven't used it in years, but its there for that "what if" scenario if needed. I do appreciate your feedback. Thanks for watching.

    That looks like a very good set up for a BOB. Is it for one person or a shared bag with your wife and her BOB?

    • @Dynastypreppers
      @Dynastypreppers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a few extra items in it to share with the family if needed, but it is setup as a one person bag. Everyone in the family has their own, and we suggest that so that everyone has what they need on them. If someone gets separated than they have their own setup that they can sustain themselves with.

    just wondering, isn't that bag very heavy?

    • @Dynastypreppers
      @Dynastypreppers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ulas o Actually the bag weighs just over what the previous Condor Assault pack (the oak itself) weighed, so for the utility it is worth the small added weight. As for the overall weight of the bag with all the items, due to the frame in the bag it actually carries quite well.

    I have that same 5X7 Tarp. The one thing I love about it, is that it fits into the back pocket on milspec BDUs. When I go out, I put my first layer kit in my pockets, so I have everything I need to shelter the night on me, at all times.

    • @Dynastypreppers
      @Dynastypreppers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends alot on your individual plans. Personally we have them staged and ready to go in case we ever needed to leave the house in a hurry, we live in a Forrest fire prone area. If you can grab your BOB you at least have basic hygiene items, money, clothes and some other things.
      As for the tent, it would be hard to fit one inside the Gryfalcon itself, but it does have molle on the bottom of the bag, you could easily attach a tent to the bottom of the bag for carrying with your kit. Thanks for watching!

    • @rogersurez9120
      @rogersurez9120 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dynastypreppers thank you for your response, ok about the gyrfalcon, I know we can detach the lower bag and make it a waist bag, but when the lower bag still on, can you extend the straps to carry a folded tent?

    • @Dynastypreppers
      @Dynastypreppers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rogersurez9120 That will depend quite a bit on how full you have the jump pack and how large the tent is. I just tested and was able to fit a smaller 1-2 person rolled tent in the straps with the jump pack, so it is possible.

    Have you considered a Sawyer Water filter as a backup to your Katadyn? I like them because of the screw on feature that lets you fill 1 & Two Liter Pop Bottles. MY thought is you could use that to fill other people's plastic bottles to help them out in an emergency, while preserving the Katadyn for you & your family. I have the Katadyn Hiker Pro & a Life Straw. I'm planning to buy 2 or 3 more life straws to be able to give out in a true SHTF. I'm ALSO going to get a Sawyer AND a Renovo, the Renovo, if I like it, will replace the Life Straws, due to the Renovo's third stage Carbon Element to remove unpleasant tastes from grasses & such.
    This coming Saturday, I'm being installed as My Church's Disaster Response Officer. I've had MUCH training, take this subject matter VERY seriously, and I walk the walk.

    • @Dynastypreppers
      @Dynastypreppers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We really like the Sawyer water filters. The Kids always have their Sawyer Squeeze with them. I carry a spare Sawyer in the truck, and have the Sawyer Minis in most of the bags. It's always a good idea to review the items in your bags, and water being as important as it is it would probably be a good idea to add a Sawyer Mini to the bag. I havent personally looked into the Renovo, would like to hear your thoughts on it once you try it out.

      I think it needs to be just a little bit larger. The Velcro fastened bottom pouch holds my Handheld Ham Radio, A couple Antenna's, mic, and batteries in the rear pocket. The front pocket holds my small medical kit. If the entire design was just Two Inches wider, I could fit everything I plan to carry in the pack as an EIGHT Day Emergency Kit.. I got the food into the middle pouch just fine. The Main Compartment could be 3/4 inch deeper as well. For 99% of Gyrfalcon Owners, the design is FABULOUS! My needs are a little different, however.
      I'm going to need a couple of Condor 4 X 4 pouches on each side of the Hip Belt. I'm also considering a wider Maxpedition Bag to put in place of the current tear away unit; I can put some Hook strips on the back of that with Fabric Glue, which I THINK will work well, and have a minimal visual impact on the overall appearance of my Gyrfalcon. OR, I'll find a same width, but DEEPER Khaki bag, and do the Fabric Glue job on IT instead. If this works, I'll have a friend make a YT Video, showing what I've done if successful.
      I WILL MAKE NO MODIFICATIONS WHAT-SO-EVER TO THE GYRFALCON OR THE TEAR AWAY BAG-ALL WILL BE KEPT ORIGINAL. I'm an Engineer, so I think I CAN come up with something that will solve my problem and still be visually appealing AND consistent with my Gyrfalcon's current appearance.
      If the prototype mod IS successful, I plan to share it with Maxpedition.
      Everyone I have shown this pack to LOVES it!
      Personally, even with the minor unexpected issues I've encountered-simply because of my gear requirements as there is NOTHING wrong with the pack itself, I am WELL pleased with the quality and feel it is worth the money I paid for it!

      Personally, even with the minor unexpected issues I've encountered-simply because of my gear requirements as there is NOTHING wrong with the pack itself, I am WELL pleased with the quality and feel it is worth the money I paid for it!

      Glad to hear you are happy with the bag Bruce. I always find it hard to match a product with what I envision using it for too. Sometimes it just doesn't work out, but it sounds like you have a good plan to address this. Would love to see the video on the mods you make to the bag as well as the contents you decided to use.
      I do agree I wish it was a bit wider, it would have made it much easier to fit everything in the bag, but then again I would have just added more "stuff" to it and been back in the place with it being too heavy.....

    its OK but a little radio in bag is very important success.

      I agree, but I do not keep my radios in my bags. There is always a radio in each vehicle and the others are in the house with the chargers to maintain the batteries.

      You should have SOMETHING in the way of comms, either in the bag or on your person at all times. At least this is how I was taught in EMS training.

      I agree. And I think he should have at least ONE day of food in his pack at MINIMUM!

      I am always open to suggestions, there are 5 ways to start a fire (lighter, matches, a magnesium bar, a solo scientific aurora ferro rod and a UST sparkie along with a fresnel lens) along with 5 tinder options (3 wetfire and 2 esbit tablets) and 50' of fire cord in the bag, not sure what else you would suggest to start a fire. As for food there are three days worth of food in the bag itself between the larabars, kind bars, sos bars and backpackers pantry meals.

      I stand corrected.
      Here is more of an FYI for all of your subscribers: Someone GAVE me THIRTY(!) No. 10 Can of Mountain House FD foods. What I did was to measure out the servings-as MY body requires-and put them in Vacuum Seal Bags. By "Shrinking" them down in this fashion, I have been able to put EIGHT DAYS of food into my Kelty 50.

      That is a great idea. I love the vacuum sealer for things like that. Since I only have a small pot I decided to leave the Backpckers pantry meals in the original bags so that they can be heated and rehydrated in the bag with what Im carrying.

      An update on the Backpackers Pantry. My wife & read the Ingredient Panels. Sadly, MOST of the Backpacker's Pantry entree's have very LOW actual FOOD value! Mountain House has a fairly new line of Ultra Compressed packaging on some of THEIR entree's, Similar to the LRP (Long Range Patrol Meals), ALSO, I believe, made by Mountain House. What I DON'T(!) like about the LRP's is the even HIGHER Salt Content! A few days ago, I tried the Backpacker's Stroganoff. The Mountain House tastes MUCH better IMO. Furthermore, after I ate the Backpacker's Stroganoff, I became sick to my stomach.
      Speaking ONLY for myself, I plan to stick with the Mountain House, and reduce them down into my own Vacuum Sealed pouches to emulate the packing style of the Backpacker's. One last item is the Mountain House, at least in my area, costs slightly less.

    A very large volume of the backpack. But the use of space is unreasonable. In fact, the place is small. If the volume of 45 liters to cling to even the first-aid kit on the outside is stupid.

      The Maxpedition Gyrfalcon is a 36L bag, not 45. The first aid kit is on a tear off pouch that is easily accessible while wearing the bag or while not wearing the bag. I would rather have the med pouch be easily accessible and take up less room then try to stuff it somewhere in the bag where I could not access it.

      I disagree, but to each their own. Everything in the pack has a specific use.
