      That's what I do, I let it play all night and wake up sometimes and listen to an episode and fall back to sleep. Otherwise I lay there thinking about things. When I go through all of them start a new account and start over as most of them I slept through. Check out The Whisper and Suspense shows and Dragnet and Miss Brooks. All are great.

    William Conrad as Matt Dillion is wonderful! Conrad (starred in "Cannon" TV show in the 70's) did such a good job at this role. However, when "Gunsmoke" came to TV, Conrad would have been just as great, but Conrad had a little problem - he was chubby - so it just wouldn't do to have him as a US Marshall so James Arness, taller and leaner, was awarded the role. In the radio episodes, Chester is played by Parley Bear who was Mayor Sandy Stone on "Andy Griffith" and playing Doc was Howard McNear who was Floyd the Barber also on "Andy Griffith". I've listened to every episode several times. And if you love radio westerns - check out "The Sixth Shooter" starting Jimmy Stewart - another outstanding old time Radio Program.

      In these times today it's more !like till the first little prob!em do them part. Without even having listened to any episodes yet I’ve already subbed. You have an outstanding selection. At the very top of the list, IMHO, is Gunsmoke. The televised programs were also outstanding. The best offerings on TV. They weren’t the usual western fare. They were human interest stories and that’s what set them apart - and above - everything else. Again, IMHO, Conrad was everything Arness wasn’t: he didn’t take no guff from anyone. He was the best Mat Dillon. And Floyd the Barber is his usual insufferable self here. Milburn Stone was my favorite character on the TV version. Two minutes of listening to McNear, my ears start to bleed. Personally, I’d be more appreciative of him if he weren’t so McNear and was more McFar.😊

    • @vincentsartain3061
      @vincentsartain3061 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How do you mean, re: Arness's take on Matt Dillon? I never once saw his Dillon take any guff from anyone! Conrad is terrific, also. In fact, their voices as Matt are pretty similar, too.

    • @vincentsartain3061
      @vincentsartain3061 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      McNear as Doc is pretty insufferable in many of the first season episodes; Doc took a ghoulish glee toward the prospect of performing autopsies (which paid better than what he normally earned in his practice from doctors fees which were often unpaid by his patients.) Heck, when Doc carried on like that, it even got on MATT's nerves! 🤣
      But as the series progressed, there was less of Doc's maniacal / macabre laughter and more of Doc evolving into a more Milburn Stone-like Doc.

    This must be one of the early 1951 episodes. William Conrad [Matt] doesn't sound like himself. His early approach to the role is completely different to later shows in the series. Doc [Howard McNear] sounds like a candidate for an insane asylum. Georgia Ellis portrayed Francie, Matt's former love interest, but she later portrayed Kitty for the rest of the series.
