    The reason that area has so many litigation claims is due to the amount of tile roofs in that area. Tile roofs do not get approved without litigation unfortunately. A better solution may be to no longer insure tile roofs, insure at higher than normal rates, or no longer allow for tile roof installations. The new laws they are making will hurt all homeowners and contractors, but allow insurances to get away with collecting premiums but not paying claims.

    • @clagueb3686
      @clagueb3686 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      By saying tile do you mean concrete tile or asphalt shingle?

    • @shrimpsalad2498
      @shrimpsalad2498 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clagueb3686 concrete tile or Spanish tile... Both are very expensive and very prevalent in that area. Insurance companies hate to pay for them due to the price being so high and typically make all tile claims go to litigation. If you drive through any neighborhood down in that area you will see them everywhere so it makes sense why that area has so many litigation claims. However, i don't think the rest of the state should have to pay for their claims, and the new laws are going to hurt everyone except the poor insurance companies. This kind of media really needs to stop, it is almost laughable, if you're an insurance company in Florida, you have to expect that there are going to be storms often, it literally rains every day 3-4 months out of the year and sometimes hurricanes come through. Our weather is crazy and we even get hail, like you can't blame contractors for high insurance rates, it is the environment we live in. If people keep feeding into this they will pay high rates and have no coverage, because that is the true insurance goal, collect and never pay out.

    Yes also homes on the ocean should also not be on the backs of the citizens of the state. If you can afford to live on the ocean then they should be able to pay a separate insurance. The roof chasers and crazy loop holes that lobbyists allow to create this problem thankfully attorneys wrote it so they have a reason to fight it in court. It's all about money. Insurance companies should not be canceling people maybe if they did there job on inspections but that would mean the would have to higher competent employees with knowledge of building.

    I have a 30 yr old house. Never made a claim. Tile roof, that's what all the newer homes after 1990 have. Live in South Florida. My homeowners insurance went up to $10,200 a year. That is insane. They said I would get a discount if I get a new roof. Hummm my roof per 3 different roofing companies said the roof is in good condition but the insurance company said pay the price. New roofs cost around $40,000. No choices here. My insurance agent said even if you get a new roof now your name and birthdate is added to the list of who made insurance claims then harder to get coverage. There are still thousands of older homes who withstood all the hurricanes here with no claims. We shouldn't be forced to make these expensive hard choices.

In CA people force themselves into these rural and wooded or dry areas prone to wildfires and then bitch about insurance premiums going up. Just don’t live there. This is also happening in TX in flood areas and the NFIP jacking up premiums. I for one champion higher rates. If you don’t want to pay the premiums then it’s time to move. Free market baby.
